Seems like it's been kind of a boring year. Maybe I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff - and maybe it's just usually winter when stuff is announced. I keep waiting for the new "gotta have" interface is coming. I doubt Apogee comes with anything new because they're probably not going to undermine the Symphony for a few more years. I doubt UA will come with anymore hardware for a while. Maybe we've kind've reached the threshold.

For me the coolest thing to happen would be if Apple released a "Mini Pro" with 8 cores, two T-Bolt ports, and 4K/60hz video support. But I'm dreaming, I think.

I believe that. At this point, it's more about features and workflow. All the new interfaces sound good and are capable of putting out good work.

there is still a lot of room for better interfaces, i'm pretty sure BLA is working on an interface that will be link expandable up to as many analog/digital ins/outs as you'd want. If they can get the software drivers/daw communication part of it right(probably the hardest part?), i'm sure it will sound amazing, i heard possibly Jan 2015 namm

I had their eq and it felt cheap to me. It just didn't feel high end. I understand that their products are inexpensive, but they are supposed to be better than price would indicate and I didn't feel that way about their eq. I know that it personally turned me off from the rest of their line. Their mods might be a different story because they are improving on an established product, but the eq didn't instill confidence in me. I'm only putting this out there because when I grabbed the EQ, 95% of what I saw on the forums was praise for their gear, and I think people should get both sides from a user with hands on experience.

Wish Burl would come out with a ADDA with drivers for connection to the computer. 2x4 or something. Something to bridge the gap between the 2 channel separates and the Mothership. But alas, I don't think it will happen.

I know a guy that got the FM192 mod and swears by it. I was in his room and listened - sounded great - couldn't really tell anything though. I'm sure those Sparrow AD's and DA's sound awesome. If it's good enough for Alison Krauss...

If it's good enough for Alison Krauss... it's looking more and more like i'm going to go for a pair of FM192's, i may be locking myself into the current versions of PT's, but i will be using native HD which should be good to go if i ever change interfaces again, in the meantime i could give a poo less, i can get the 192's dirt cheap, and i'm almost entirely OTB anyway. These are serious converters, and it'll give me the analog 16 ins and 32 outs i'm needing.

Felt cheap, fit and finish was poor, sound was meh, a bit cloudy. I wouldn't have sold it if it just felt bad. Basically, everything about it was mediocre IMO. Not what I would consider bang for the buck.

I have some new stuff I'm coming out with. Brad I took a peek up Brad's figurative skirt and got a literal erection. I'm also aware of another cool looking product coming down the pike that I plan on grabbing on Monday. I'll post an update then.

I am big BLA fan. I got an ADA8000 modded by them and I was absolutely amazed at what they did to that box. I only use it as an AD/DA, but a buddy of mine has one he uses on drums and the pre's are ridiculous for a piece of gear that only costed like $600 with the mod. I think the conversion of it sounds better than my Ensemble. That's pretty impressive. My most favorite though is the Sparrow A/D. I had a mix that I printed through it and a couple of other different A/D's and sent them off to friends who I most certainly trust. It was unanimous but confirmed what I was hearing when every one of them remarked that it seemed "smooth, more open, gelled, and feels good". I use that as my master clock too, as it's a step up from the FM192's clock. If I turn that off and clock off either the Apollo or Ensemble the mix will collapse and feel like someone put a cover over my speakers.

I'm not sure Tony, when I talked to BLA about it I asked if it was the same clock as the FM192, and was told it was a step up from that clock. I'll try and find out though. What is interesting, is that I was actually told by 2 different guys at BLA to not buy the white, but the red. I asked why and he kind of murmured around somethings but my take away was that "the white has more components on it, and we are finding that the Red is getting more compliments". I've heard this from a few people myself. What I can say is, if the FM192 is basically the Sparrow then my goodness what it would sound like to have it feeding a desk. I consider Mike Shipley to be one of the best ears that ever was, and he was so sure about that converter he put his name on the line for BLA. So many call snake oil..... but that's nuts, Mike Shipley was probably one of the most nit picky mixers/producers of all time, I mean the guy had to mix for Mutt, who made many remarks that Shipley was simply brilliant with his ears. I sure do miss Mike, his mixes are ones that will always stand the test of time, so his opinion can't simply be thrown out as snake oil, sorry, but it can't. Warhead sells them, maybe he might know.

Nicely put, Shipshape was indeed the shit. The XB clock is the step up from the FM clock, that is what I'm having them do, they still call it the FM192 though, honestly if it sounds equally as good as my FM002, I will be so happy, if it sounds somehow better, I'll be beside myself 8)

I keep thinking I should send in one of my 192 digitals for a clock mod, But I just picked up an Aardsync 2 so I can sync The Ampex 440 8 track I picked up some years ago. I really want to up to a 2 inch.
Still I wish Somebody had a Sudio Tech modded 192 just to hear what it sounded like.
More and more AES is establishing its self as the coming out party for what we are after.

Since the Ensemble's clock is better than the apollo I'll use it to compare. I'll PM you the files.
