Video reviews of speakers makes as much sense as testing wet suits in the desert đ

Especially, when brand new and he says nothing about breaking them in,
didnât think much of the review, but he must have one of the first pairs sold in US.
I think vintage king has stock, but even Sweetwater doesnât yet.

This isn't really a demo per se, more of a review. He had some great things to say and I'm not surprised that they beat out his Focals at all. Thanks for posting!

I do not know this reviewer, but...
new speaker reviews, this one included, often remind me of a friend describing a new girlfriend/love interest. They are over praising, a little smitten, easy to love the new features, and quick to point out the great qualities. They minimize the flaws or can't see them yet. There is no real-world day to day interaction to the reviews. And of course, with YT, everyone wants to be first in order to get the views. They so often feel like a mild fluff piece with very few willing to risk offending. The dialogue commonly shifts a few months to year later when a new love interest shows up and the back-peddling/ 'these are great' 'I still really like these' but...begins.

The only way you get review samples these days is the unwritten understanding that you are part of the hype machine.

The tape op article is more informative.
Here in Canada, Studio Economik is supposed to get a pair in the control, monitoring room: that would be worth the trip.

Very true, but I think at the very least, I took away that the reviewer's perception of the low end clarity was vastly improved from their Focals. You could make the argument that this could be due to room treatment, positioning etc. But I think it's fair to say the low end is probably a bit tighter. Other than that, not much you can get from this review and he's pretty honest about that too - that these are just his first impressions.

Other than that, not much you can get from this review and he's pretty honest about that too - that these are just his first impressions. Yeah man, I 100% understand. Though that supports my point as well...'vastly' is a hype phrase at certain levels of quality. 'Tighter' is also a hard to translate phrase. And no doubt room is 100% included in any low end perception. I am genuinely not arguing for it, there just isn't any way around it here and certainly not in his room where there does not seem to be any treatment and the monitors are placed next to a window.
Of course in pro audio, we often work on a minuscule scale of % improvements. So 'vastly' could mean 5% 'better' and that would be legit in certain circles. But all that aside, I agree these new mid priced BFs might be better than the Focal Alphas, but that is purely speculation on my part. All that aside, I would rather work on Focals for low-end any day for my style of roots music. I have not used the mid-level Focals he had, but I do find higher-end Focals (Twins and Trios) a 'vastly' better speaker for my ears than any BF 01 and Micro Mains I have used.
That is just personal experience/preference, not quality.

who cares what the video says? he's still using big, cheap monitors in an untreated room and complaining about translation lol. the first two speakers he had, hs8 and a7x, are great PRODUCTION speakers in treated rooms (not his) but i wouldn't want to mix something down on them.

Of course, when I used the word "vastly" I was referring to the reviewer's perception, not anything objective.

I don't know why this wasn't put in the OTHER barefoot 3 thread..
But again, the hype was really crazy for the barefoot 1 and I found them to be drastically underwhelming, so I would absolutely ignore reviewer gushing and just listen for yourself.

I was joking about relative perspectives, $2k usd is pretty well $3k cdn, not chump change to me: seems like a disruptive market move. Why are other more expensive 3 ways worth their price, be interesting to see , if other product retail prices fall. I think of Presonus/kali as âcheapâ? Am thinking there will be a big market, for a set of barefoot below $2 grand, sure not for everyone, but good to have options.
