Practicing my clickbait headlines for future YouTube possibilities. Anyway - if I sawed off the middle of this desk so I could scoot my monitor back - it shouldn’t be an issue with it structurally right? I normally have it on the main desk scooted back as close to the front ledge as it will go back…but my monitor has always been in front of the speakers and I suspect futzing with sound…so I’d like to cut that center part of the ledge off and scoot it back to at least be even with the speakers.

Yikes, yeah cut that reflection right out, no need for the extra horizontal stabilization on those two short racks.. unless your gonna start racing that desk and she shimmeys at top speed.

I attached a heavy towel doubled up to the back of my monitor . It cut down on some reflection off the back of the monitors

Why not just mount on wall or build a shelf on wall?

Because I have 6” absorbers on the wall behind the desk. Guess I could get a vesa mount and arm, but then I wouldn’t be able to put a light in the center of the desk. i.postimg.cc/SQvgF13f/IMG-2250.jpg

Since you barely have any rack gear use a side-rack and have a clean small desk. All producer desks are awful from an acoustic stand point.
I remember a friend of mine who had a terrific sounding room sold his small console and replaced it with a big rack desk. It totally changed the sound of the room to the worse. So even if it looks nice that's something I would avoid at all cost.

Seems a shame to cut the desk, could hang from ceiling too or get adjustable arm that clamps to desk but pivots?

Sure, drop cut, clamp a guide piece to the guard side of the cut.

Cut that piece out! Put some masking tape down on the cut line before you cut, it’ll help keep the edge nice and free from splintering.
The nice thing about racks is that the gear itself is bracing the rack for stability.

Since you’re worried about the reflection, let’s first see how much of a difference. First remove the entire shelf and rack supports then stack some gear where the racks are put the Amphions on the stacks put the monitor where you want and see if it makes a difference, before you start sawing.
If you find you still want to cut we will then talk about stabilizing the 2 little racks.

I was more concerned about the monitor being in the path of the speakers than say reflecting off the shelf...but that might be what you mean. Anyway - as many of you know, I'm not what one would consider "handy." I am handy challenged. In spit of that, I purchased a nice circular saw (Been wanting to get one) and commenced to sawin'... That failed miserably. I cut about an inch and a half into it and it just wasn't going well. I don't know if this composite or whatever it is is super dense/tough...but this thing was struggling. Smoke and really going slow. So I wasn't going to force it. At least I know it's well made lol. Maybe I'll hire a professional - because I really think removing that piece would be the right move. It might actually need a table saw. I think I can remove the top altogether pretty easily. Wonder if I could take it to Lowes/HD and have it cut?

I’m going to bet you changed the angle as you were cutting and it started binding the blade. Happens to the best of us and why my Porter Cable hasn’t seen use in 2 years. Instead I use this. www.kregtool.com/shop/cutting/track-saw-cutting/adaptive-cutting-system-plunge-cut-track-saw/ACS-SAWBB.htmlCouldn’t afford the Festool but I’m happy, even bought an after market adapter to use a router with the track. Anybody near KC want a Hitachi contractor saw and a PC circular.

If it’s a high count it’ll make a smoother cut but it can be a lot of friction and is more likely to smoke, stalling etc. A blade with fewer teeth will make the cut much easier, but at the expense of a more coarse cut (generally speaking).

Uh…again, I is not handy. I had the blade backwards. Who knew circular saw teeth face up? Not me. Anyway, it cut like hot butter once I used it correctly. Cut through my Govee light thingy immediately after I thought to myself “I need to take down the Govee light thingy so I don’t cut through it.” About to see if it changed any with the Trinnov.

Now, it's been a pretty heavy day, but still - it's what i needed. Thanks, John. I am as handily challenged as you are.

That red solo cup could be part of the problem if it's full of bourbon. Just saying...

Was about to say that it should cut without a hitch and that the blade sounds f****d up. Are the Amphions at true ear level (the tweeter looks a little high?) Otherwise all looks good Cheers, Ross

Wait, can the density of bourbon absorb low frequencies?

I swear, with like 3 out of every 5 "projects" I attempt, I watch the YouTube vids, I feel like I understand the whole procedure, and then I do the first step which then has a wildly different result than every YT vid I've watched. And I'm crazy detailed - it's not like I'm skipping over stuff or making shit up as I go.
