By themselves or in a finished mix: big difference.

It actually pleases me that ev33 does nothing in his drum editing and processing I don't do... and I suspected as much anyhow, from listening to this.

Man, fundamentally I find your promotional stuff exhausting. Checking in with the Pro Audio channel and 8 of 10 threads you post are you promoting stuff.
That's fine I guess, but please... give us a disclaimer.

Why in most of theses Video the drums sound better before the mixing....... You have to develop your ears to know when something is "radio ready". It's really hard to accurate judge when somethign is too processed and when something is not too much processed.

Good video but very distorted drum sound. Cool for pop. Fun to see good old Rcomp adding a megaton of high end from having that hard cut in the sidechain at 2khz, when if triggered by anything above that, doesn't apply the envelope and acts as a glorified fader ride. Plastic memories.

Unfortunately it’s what makes the world go round. He's not really promoting anything other than Waves Renaissance Compressor (1998), MDWEQ (TDM days), and old Fabfilter and Sound Toys stuff. Workhorse old school dsp make stuff go boom. More distorted than what can be done on a typical analog board yeah but it sounds cool. New Fabfilter Saturn 2 is cool. Distressor kicks are cool. Instant radiation.

If it's me... put me on your ignore list, I don't care. Endorsing someone, saying me too, or noticing similarities is exactly like Eric put it: Welcome to the internet, actually welcome to our industry, actually, welcome to humanity. Endorsing someone, saying me too, or noticing similarities is exactly like Eric put it: Welcome to the internet, actually welcome to our industry, actually, welcome to humanity. We are hive minded creatures who seek out our own kind. I don’t think it was aimed at either of us, for the most part we are pretty good at trying to point out any conflicts of interest. I have also personally stated many times if you consider a former dealer relationship with a manufacturer then I personally conflict with just about everybody so it levels out ( damn it it’s been at least a year since a manufacturer felt I was picking on them). The original poster on this was our very senior fellow member Kcatthedog who does link a fair amount of videos. But I’ll wager 80% have a fair amount of informative value. Now I’m not JK, it’s his private little playground and his rules, but I feel I need to point something out. We are lucky enough to have Eric Valentine grace our little corner of the internet, he could be spending his time on the giant purple rabbit hole, is his presence primarily to promote his products? Duh absolutely, but maybe he will like us and decide to spend more time and contribute to other threads thus promoting our little corner of the net. Personally I viewed this thread as clickbate to get EV to contribute a bit more, not sure if that was the intention or not. While not all of EV’s production work is to my personal taste the fact that Chris Thiele did more than one Nickel Creek project with him speaks volumes. ( remember the bassist in Chris’s other big project is from Madison as well and we cheese heads talk so if I wasn’t already a Chris Thiele fan I would be through that route). OK Since I went down the CS route the original TD of Prarie home companion Buzz Kemper is an old friend and while not a personal client I’m probably as responsible for a fair amount of his kit as anyone and I did sell one of his partners the DDA that sat in his studio for years.

I always learn some new technique from watching EV. Not everything he does is in my specific taste but it does give food for thought and I am super thankful he's willing to share his processes. BTW Eric, I am a HUGE Thile fan. The two albums with EV are my favorites of Nickel Creek. I found his video about recording the last NC album to be especially interesting.

My comment was regarding kcatthedog's initial thread start. Sorry, I get tired of all the promotion stuff and how great UA is, just stick with Stam, etc. UA, which I use heavily, Stam which I own and that was not an easy process. Ward not sure what all the aggression is there, but I've been in the industry one way or another for decades. If I offended you in some way, I'm not sure how. Surely don't understand the aggression.

Huh. That is about the last thing I would have guessed as the target for your irritation. Matt (kcat) posts links to stuff he thinks others might find interesting/relevant. I’ve never sensed an ounce of promotional motivation.

Got that right, i sold all my ua stuff over a year ago as I was fed up with its pricing practices, as I explained here at the time. I do share ua info about good prices, when I see them.
While josh’s company is far from perfect, it has improved. So, i share info about those improvements and about products I am interested in to see what people think about them.
I don’t agree that that is promoting one company over another.
Bat, i think this is the second time you have accused me of being secretly affiliated with companies here and promoting them. You were wrong the first time, which I explained and wrong again this time too.
Please get your facts straight and stop making these baseless accusations.

Aggression? Really? Defensive, maybe, and protective of two colleagues since it seemed like one of the three of us was your target... but aggressive? Not what the word means.

Maybe it's me, but I have to ask, does anyone here think that 90% of what Eric is doing, & discussing is a total waste of time? I think I could have achieved a drum sound, given those tracks in a few minutes, and made slight adjustments for each section, that would have taken less time than it took to watch that video~!
Now that said, I like Eric, his company, his products, etc... But, again, I'm sure it's only me the old guy, but boy does this seems like a waste of time in the real scheme of things. Carry on.

I don’t think it’s a waste of time per se, for a weekend warrior like me. I do suspect if we were watching him do this in real time without him stopping to show and explain, it would go much faster. After all, he’s maybe done this kinda stuff before. Cheers, Geoff

Yep, Like I said, I'm sure it's only me, especially since there's not too many old timers here on this forum that might have a mindset like me.
But I get it, he's very personable, has a great discography, and is basically a nice guy! What's not to like?
That said, I also stated years ago, his new console at the time, as beautiful and tricked out as it was as it was, was gonna go nowhere, simply because of the state of the industry. But have to give him credit for doing it. (I believe he sold two, maybe three, at most) (obviously no fault of his own)
I'm also on record as I believe his new place in Vermont is a very risky proposition to say the least~! I realize they (he and Grace) have some $$, but still that is a very BIG expenditure, and is one of those things that just keeps asking for $$$, whether or not there are clients in the room?
But what do I know?
No matter, I do wish them all the best with the new facility, and everything they do.

Well I’m an oldster too at least on this board. Got my Tascam Porta One in 84,so that means coming up on my fifth decade of recording stuff. Very off and on, and never made my living at it. So, take everything I have to say with a grain of salt etc. I find EVs stuff educational and I almost always learn something. But I don’t really seek it out either. Just glad that he is out there sharing his knowledge. We don’t have mentoring in this industry really anymore. From that perspective his stuff is gold. Yeah, if you’ve been in the trenches doing this for a living I get not wanting to sit through it. Horses for courses I suppose. Cheers, Geoff

Just for perspective, I opened my first joint in 72, and that's all I've done since~! Moved 7 times, but still in it.
