Cool but why? And honestly I’ll bet one of the biggest issues is it doesn’t run cool at all.

Yeah… I know its not fair to comment on this before trying it out. But I get the feeling we can address some perspectives never the less. We have been debating about squeezing a La2a i to 500 series being pushing it. A fairchild is an institution in a way and unless its executed as such it should be presented as a vari mu, not referred to as a somethingchild 670. I have no doubt it might sound great as a vari mu though.

The only reason I can see for this is a dealer, in a rack with a UL approved PSU you have a UL approved 670 clone, now how many public buildings in CA need a 670?.

Spotted one in the wild a couple of weeks ago. Was sworn to secrecy. Didn't have a chance to check it out though.

1/4 of the gain reduction tubes. Big part of the actual action.

I have to admit...this is Johnnip.

The attempt doesn't bother me at all. I'd go into it not expecting it to sound like a real Fairchild...but my interest is piqued.

1/4 of the gain reduction tubes. Big part of the actual action. The marketing spin: we reduced the weight. expense of new tubes and heat, see we are geniuses, well in the Apple sense at least. Honestly I don’t have a problem except the idea of a name implying a Fairchild. In my eyes this trend of using names that imply a Classic, but really don’t have much to do with the original is just opening one’s self up to internet ridicule. It was. grand idea but any fairly intelligent Child can tell it’s not a Fairchild.

If it sounds good, I don't care at the end of the day. Having said that, in "theory" I wouldn't have minded this being solid state with some nice transformers "in the vein" of a Fairchild. I'm surprised they pulled this off, but my initial concern as well is heat. I would consider putting one of these in my API Box Console, could be cool. Wish it were cheaper, but don't think it's out of line for a stereo tube compressor. We're kind of hitting "diminishing returns" with 500 series concepts like this though. My mindset with 500 series was to save space and money.
Maybe they'll do a "StepChild" single space solid state one at some point. All that crap said, I would love to try one!

I wonder how it compares to the Anamod 660 - 500 series unit. It can still be found in the used market.

Heritage Pricing on a couple of their items doesn't make sense to me, and I wonder what I'm missing?. Asking 10k USD for their 670 puts it out of reach for all but those thinking about the Unfairchild, which I would think is a very small market of potential buyers to begin with. So to get even 50% of that small market share at best to cover your R & D, overhead and make a worthwhile profit for your Company to justify the product development choice doesn't seem logical to me when I see dealers still sitting with their original stock order of them at those retail prices. Even the less costly 5.5k Heritage 660 demo model with 1k off of the list on sale for 4.5k at VK is still sitting there month after month etc.... it just appears to me they've priced themselves out of too much of the market , but I must be missing something.
-----So while 2k is within a larger number of consumer budgets.....I'd think the number of buyers willing to pay 2k for a 500 series product is again much smaller and more discerning and the product will have to prove itself worth the price difference over average 500 series I don't see happening in volume........but maybe all my years as a musician for a living has me out of touch with just how many high income jobs there are out there with disposable hobbyist income,......yet all those sitting Heritage 670/660s at U.S. retail suggest to me otherwise...

wow 400ma per slot. So you need something that'll do 800ma for just 2 slots. Thats a lot of juice! Not a lot of 500 racks will be able to do that cleanly.

Hunch and strictly a hunch, first 2 rack units at such different price points get confusing, second, look at how the Warm CL1B is being criticized, with this it’s “well we had to make a bunch of compromises to physically fit and meet the power limitations of the 500 series format.” The part they won’t admit 500 series probably cut the street price by $500. Man you would think I work for a manufacturer after reading that.

I don't know enough about this stuff, but can 4 tubes in 2 500-rack spaces safely disburse enough heat? Does not seem likely. Also, how much power does it require? Could it be used in a regular API 500-8B?

VPR alliance spec is a 130ma per rail. medias.audiofanzine.com/files/api-vpr-500-spec-479213.pdf

The Heritage 500 series OST 10 (I and II) is rated at 400ma per slot. So is the Black Lion Audio PBR-8 (uses Heritage OST).

Pretty sure that’s the original standard and API raised it within the last decade as it all got away from them. Anyway, the standard is only about what works in their racks or others that bother to get VPR approval, and we know that ship is long sailed….

Yeah, but it as close as we come to a standard 😁 But hey I have a big old 7.5 amp DDA console supply running a single 500 rack, I guess I could run 5 at once.

Current is slightly over 200mA per rail per slot. So 200 is the figure to compare with 130, not 400. Sorry if the info provided is confusing. We will clarify this.
