If anyone hasn't tried Satin and Dopamine, I've found those pretty indispensable for use on both tracks and busses. I couldn't just slap on another tape emu like Phoenix and compensate for the loss of Satin on the tracks and busses by using it or even hardware saturation or compression across the whole mix. Satin with the GP9 A800 preset just does something that makes a mix gel really well while also creating a smoothness and fullness that other tape emus do not. Dopamine after each instance of Satin or other tape emu really helps to compensate just as I imagine it does when using real tape and the Dolby type A trick. Often I'll just use these on a bus with maybe Pro-Q3 and be satisfied. Satin does the tape compression thing if I'm thinking correctly. I'll prefer that over the sound of a compressor usually. These days I try to process tracks with less plugins. PA 902, UAD 1176 blue stripe. Maybe I'm using more FX plugins than dynamics processors and eqs. If something is exceptionally dull I'll use the PA Black Box MS. While it doesn't do some big things that the hardware does, it doesn't dull the transients like it does either. A couple people across the forums have noticed that too. The PA stuff must be on sale at the moment I'm guessing. CLAEffects is still the one Waves plugin I make a lot of use out of for the throw delay and the various distortions it can do on a voice. While I haven't checked the Softube sale, I know they've sold the Fix Flanger, Doubler, and Phaser for ridiculously low prices this year and I consider those to be essential.

Ugh…thinking about the UAD guitar bundle after saying I was done because it has the 224 and Dimension D, and those two alone at $25 a piece are worth it to me.
Added: welp, I bought it.

I thought about that bundle, but already own half of them. I sent an email to see if I could swap the 3 I already own for 3 different plugins and got no reaction.

CS is like a week behind: had no response to my contact, certainly over 72 hours.

CS is like a week behind: had no response to my contact, certainly over 72 hours. Same,....no response from a week ago, multiple tries. I know UA's unpopular policy on resale of Apollo plugs in the past is either sell all with device or nothing. What is their resale policy for Native plugs you buy, do you know?

I know UA's unpopular policy on resale of Apollo plugs in the past is either sell all with device or nothing. What is their resale price for Native plugs you buy, do you know? That's a good question. I wish you could buy and sell UAD second hand. Or even a trade program that they facilitate.

I thought you can’t sell just the native, if you sell uad2, the native goes with that.

Slight diversion - haven't heard the Pusherman for years ; interesting how the bass and drums are both only in the left channel as per a lot of records at that time. Need to check it on meters and see what it's doing there. Definitely one of the best bands of the era. "Born to be Wild" followed by the amazing "Magic carpet Ride" - incredibly good. Cheers, Ross

I had a few beers and bought into the 2/99, as it seemed like a really attractive offer. I woke up the next morning with regret. I’d like to pretend that it didn’t happen, but I rolled over and UAD is staring back and me with its “you can’t get rid of me” grin. And I’m a hundred bones down. There was a reason I stopped buying UAD.

Don’t beat yourself up too much, you also likely saved $100s and have two great new plugs, enjoy them!

I used the McDSP sale to update a freebie EC-300 license to V7 for $22. It's got all the Futzbox filters built-in if you turn off the delay time, and I was kinda bummed my V6 wasn't updated for M1 Silicon. Also bought that TC Electronic Icon Series Legacy Native Bundle for $129. I already had the TC 8210 Reverb plug-in with the little USB controller, but it was the pre-iLok version that needs the controller plugged in every 30 days. PIA, I've got their Master X plug-in/controller as well, but it runs off a regular iLok authorization. Kind of a nag purchase to replace that 8210 license with the hassle free version, plus add the 2290, DVR 250 and 1210 sans hardware controllers for cheap. McDSP sent a $50 off FutzBox code after I updated EC-300, so I picked up the AAX DSP version for $49, nice to have a latency free vocal destructor. Also upgraded from my freebie AAX-only version of PSP oldTimer to the ME plug for $5. Bought a couple newer Softubes, Bus Processor and Atlantis Dual Chambers for $69 each. And finally added the Reverb Foundry Atmos verbs, HD Cart for $80 and Tai Chi for $76, to my growing Atmos arsenal, Inspirata Pro, Stratus 3D and Symphony 3D. All real nice stuff.

Just got the UAD Waterfall B3 for about $25. The regular price has been reduced to $49 which is very fair, plus there was a $25 coupon in my UAD checkout.

Yeah, the UA Fairchild and 175/176 for $39 each has me pondering. Ugh.
Any thoughts on whether either of these is worth the big spend?
Cheers, Geoff

That’s him, you should demo it and hear for yourself ! That’s true, but I’m honestly looking for reasons not to buy more plugins. Plus, we’ve been collaborating on recordings for decades, so this is someone I trust more than most.

the UA 175/176 are pretty nice. I probably use them more often than the Fairchilds.

For whatever it’s worth, the Fairchild 660 dimed is my favorite drum room/kit mic comp.
