Here's a crazy challenge / experiment; I hope you will partake. I don't have any prizes, except fame and glory in this thread.
The challenge: You're trying to record a drumkit with the most flexibility at mixdown (you want to have the most spot microphones as possible), and the lowest total price for the microphones, while still getting something that you personally regard as "good." List the microphones that you would use.
I will compute a score for you, and it will come from the formula score=5000/B+2N^1.5, where B is the total cost of the microphones in US dollars, and N is the number of microphones. The higher the total price, the lower the score. The higher the number of microphones, the higher the score (one FOK mic or a Recorderman setup will not give you a very high score). The score doesn't reflect subjective "quality," but don't use any microphones that you think suck. Don't worry, I'll compute the scores for everybody who participates.
Whoever gets a higher score wins. The prices that I will use for computing the score will be the average selling price on Reverb. I'll look those up one by one.
Thanks!

2 - fathead II’s for room 2 - Soyuz 0-13’s for OH 3 - Beyer M88’s kick and 2 Tom’s 1 - audix i5 snare top.
That gets the job done for me. I am going to hassle the hell out of the drummer to balance the ride and hat volume though.

Snare: ksm105. $$ but can be used on anything else too. No snare bottom needed. Best rejection I've found for the sensitivity.
Kick: D6
Toms: atm250
OH: km184 or mk012. Can be used for just about anything else too
Spots/ride/hats: mk012s.
Rooms: mk219s or lewitt 440

Sorry, I was not interested in the math or trying to keep track. So I'll pass on it. Otherwise, I'd just do like Pocarro and put 251's on everything.

I'm sorry, but without knowing the drumset itself, the player, the music, the production goals and general esthetic this is nearly impossible. I let drumsound worry about this. So, whatever he says is my answer. I can list what I've used on the majority of your tracks, but there are variations even in that. MC012 x2 OH M88 (2-3) on toms ATM23he snare (mostly, but not always) e602 BD 635a (x2) room (often, but many other characters show up) But there are times when you send a different type of tune, I go for a different type of setup. For instance on one track I recorded a 5 gallon water bottle with on mic (god knows which one) in the 'mouth' of the bottle to sound like a heartbeat. Then there was the time I set up in the dead booth with a big old BD and a low tuned snare. That had a U87 on the BD and a Røde TF5 on snare.

I can't answer it fully or any better than others. I have two Josephson e22s mics for toms (and handdrums/tablas). Ideally, I would have three - one for each tom in the standard drum set up that I have.
Oh - and a pair of Neumann 67ri for overheads. (though I am curious about the Heiserman 47ts in dual omni and Stam 87ts on overheads - just have not tried them yet.)

I have two setups genre dependent:
Overheads: Schoeps MK2 Kick: RE20 Snare: SM57 Toms: DPA4099
or
Overheads: AEA N8 Snare: SM57 Kick: N8 Toms: DPA4099
I do live stuff usually so room mics aren't a thing. So 6ch baby. Every other mic on stage is a "room mic" ha

Ok I’ll play. This is what I’d throw up in this scenario that could cover any genre
Kick - AKG D12VR Snare Top - SE V7X Rack Tom - Heil PR31 Floor Tom - Heil PR31 OH pair - Apex 460’s (modded with C12 style capsules from microphone parts) if this isn’t accepted than Soyuz 013’s Crotch/Kit mic - Coles 4038 Mono Room Mic - SM57 pointed at the title floor

the following may not be as much of a kill joy as the joy killed in me when a thread gets derailed, an attempt to bring it back on, and people seem determine to run it into the ground again* but nonetheless....
*such threads could be deserving of their own mathematical formulas as well. or a RGO Bingo board per thread...
anyhow, main confusion here cooper is that your formula doesn't seem to take into account the stated goal of flexibility. So a pair of MXL 603 SDCs close to cymbals vs. maybe twice that cost for a pair of deccent ribbons or S/LDCs FOK mathematically give the edge to the OHs. And this is to say nothing of sound quality of individual mics or placement. i don't have a kit anymore, but far cooler would be posting a pic and a recording of the mics in question. which limits your participation somewhat... but maybe i'm missing your point / goals / what you care about, and what you don't care about!
anyhow, if just listing mics, what about DIY mics we've built - what do those get valued at if no reverb hx on them?

Ok, despite not having recorded drums seriously in about 25 years, here goes.
Oktava mc012 on oh (2) M201 on side of snare At25 on toms (2?) SM7 or 421 or RE20 inside kick. Whatever’s cheapest Soundeluxe U195 on outside kick Cheapest decent ribbon for room. Cascade maybe?
Assuming rock, and the caveat that I only included mics I actually own excepting the room mic. I only have one ribbon, and it is not on the cheap end of the scale.
Cheers, Geoff

ADK Cremona (2) - OH or room, can swap with FH Fathead (2) - OH or room, can swap with Cremona Shure Beta 52 - kick, my fav of the purpose-built kick mics CAD m179 (2) - toms, still like them a lot for this Shure SM57 - snare
For either the Cremona or FH pair, you could also do mono OH and the other as a batter side/crotch/kit mic. Or do stereo OH and mono room, mono batter/crotch/kit mic.
Budget friendly and will sound good if your drums in your room sound good.

Cheap, sturdy and doesn't suck? 2x EV635a. 320 dollars 2x KSM 137 or 141. 700-900 dollars. 1x SM57 for snare. 100 dollars. 2x PR40 for kick and floor tom. 700 dollars. 1x ATM450. 280 dollars. I'll find a use for it.
