I'm thinking about letting some stuff go: My collection of guitar equipment is ridiculous, I could provide a killer backline for a major band. Silly. Awesome, not ridiculous. I have a 66 Bassman and a 79 Mesa Mark II and I SUCK at guitar. Now that's ridiculous. Thanks! I most definitely went through a phase of relentless acquisition. Here's two Sandys and a Goldie:

I want a nice 12 string acoustic. I had a nice Sigma in 1984 and I'd love to get another one.

But I picked up a cheap old Yamaha FG312 a couple of years ago. It's not as massive sounding as an old Guild, but it's very balanced, built solidly--never budges, and records beautifully. All my guitar playing friends love it.

I'm GASsing for so many things, but after hearing enough of cowboy's tracks, the UAD Ocean Way Studio plug has moved to the top of my list.

The list is too long! And getting longer!! Abort!
I'm loving this subtle steady cycle of a constantly evolving studio, it really keeps me engaged.
I also love it when I snag something and I'm like, that one's never going to go. :-D

Top of the list right now is the rest of the colour modules I don't already own:
Louder Than Liftoff Implode, Pentode XQP Colouruptor Eisen M79
And 2 Buss Stuff.... just can't decide... Missing Links? Serpent SB4000? VP28? Whatever is at AES?
Lastly, I can't wait for the Chunger full u47 kit w/power supply and everything.

Sent the signal from my parallel comp drum buss to a pair of Eisen TM79s and back on a fader and blended. Gave some nice compressed 'hair' to the drums. Tried the other Colour modules first but believe I liked the TM79 best, this time..

I want an AML 54F50. Actually, I want a Neve 2254 but they're out of my price league. Has anybody used the AML? How does it compare to a Neve 33609JD, the current (available/affordable) model. I know they are different, but how?

I know they are different, but how? 2254 is a class A path, similar to the 1272/1073 structure. The 33609 is class A/B with an BA640 "opamp" for the gain. The sidechains are a bit different, with a lot more functionality in the 33609 version. I couldn't tell you all the differences since I didn't memorize them, but a large difference was the removal of a transformer from the 2254 sidechain and the transfer of the circuit from edge-cards to a single flat PCB. I believe the AML is very true to the original 2254. I've not heard both so I can't attest to the differences, but I can say that my 2254/33609 hybrid that I made sounds a little different than an actual neve 33609, however the vibe of the neve compressor has always been in how it reacts to the signal rather than the sound of the amps inside of it. It sort of rounds everything in a thumpy manner.

I know they are different, but how? I've never used one, but I really like the Carnhill transformers they use...and that's a big ingredient in the sound. So I would bet on it being good. I think AML has got a pretty good reputation, too.
