With all the 251 talk, thought it might be a good idea... To compare notes on all the "Plainer Sister(s)". LOL! I actually_even_like_the 414 XLS's tone. (Nice but doesn't "wow" me) But feel there are (obviously) some excellent alternatives. Including under $1K. Thoughts? Clips? Thanks, Chris P.S. I may replace my 2nd string condensers with one of them next year.

Buy yourself a Røde NT2a, drop the polarization down to 55 volts and put your favorite CK12 capsule in it. You will end up with an incredible mic. If you want a different flavor drop a K47 or M7 in it.

Well at least my Presonus Audiobox puts out 55 Volts phantom. So I'm one step closer, along with my deep understanding. Chris

Just the cost of the capsule and 20 minutes of your time. The only reason to drop the polarization voltage is that over time a CK12 might collapse but many K47's can take the 70 volts the Røde uses

And in Neumann U48, the K47 is polarized at 60 volts? Or am I misremembering that and have it backwards? (Clearly, I'm asking you as a professional whose opinion I respect!)

Hey Tim 2 questions, 1. Seeing a couple of YouTube videos using the mic parts k47 kit, do you need the new mount with a CK12? 2. What about the AKG C3000? Wasn’t there a kit to make it flat ? Always figured if you EQ’ed it flat got rid of the crappy rear facing mini capsule that made it multi pattern and one of your capsules and you would have a usable mic!

Anyone know of a great video and/or manual for ck12 capsule replacement?

(Clearly, I'm asking you as a professional whose opinion I respect!) They are but those type capsules seem to be able to withstand higher polarization voltages easily. I always test my capsule with 85v to make sure that they won't collapse but CK12's have a habit of collapsing at 60v when they get old so lowering the voltage is optimal.
Most manufacturers supply mounts.
Any handy technician could change the capsule. Which microphone do you mean?

timcampbell, I was only asking about clarification on the polarizing voltages of the various capsules. Such a polarizing conversation. LOL

LOVE all of them - up to the B-ULS! Have 2 EB's (one with an original CK-12 brass & another with a CT-12) & 2 B-ULS (both with the "nylon" CK-12)

Come to think of it, I’ve never heard of anyone putting in one of the new “real” CK12-type options in a brand new 414. Has anyone?

Honestly, how I use the AKG XL II and Austrian Audio OC818, in omni and select-sources, I’m pretty-darn happy. I’d love to try the brand new Beesneez BC12A Fet. I bet is a real-contender. I’d love to find out!

Lewitt LCT 640 sounds a lot like a 414 with a better low end. Something like $650 if memory serves.

Not trying to be a smart arse Tim but I attempted to contact you at least a couple of times on your business email and also through this site after you advised I do that with my NT 2000 however I received no follow up reply - I guess you had a head full of busy but I'd love to get one of your caps if you've got one spare I don't really trust any other CK12s to make it worth my while (not that I truly know). Cheers, Ross

Cheers, Ross Ross I am so sorry. I haven't been able to provide capsules to private customers the last 2 years because of so much OEM work. I regret that I don't have excess production for DIY guys in that those are my favorite customers.
