I'm just thinking aloud, did you two verify you accounts via the confirmation email? They LOVE having those email addresses. I did. And in fact, I’m already receiving all kinds of emails from them trying to get me to buy stuff, so the machine is working. Literally the only thing that really bothers me. |

So I bought the Fairchild collection 49$ two day ago .
I tried to go back and buy the 1176 collection and it wouldn’t let me .
Today I get the same email and I can buy any of the four plugins for 49$ and its working
Strange days indeed !

So I have a (now useless) UAD-2 firewire which I bought mostly to run add'l reverbs and so I have the base plugs that come with entering the UA plug-world plus the reverbs (the real reason I got into UAD plugs to begin with). I have the $49 offer and it seems to be working in my cart.
Apologies if I'm re-hashing old questions already asked too many times but, what are opinions of the quality of the native plugs UAD offers vs let's say Waves CLA versions (or others)? I'm speaking mostly of the 1176, LA-2A, Pultec, and Fairchild plugs but would be happy to hear about the other UAD native offerings.
Now that offloading DSP to a satellite is less and less important, I'm trying to gauge the worth of dropping the $200 for these 4 ... Is it a clear upgrade in sonics / quality / features? Again -- apologies if this is a dead horse!

I guess it's to try to get as many people as possible still buying into the hardware or buying bundles before they eventually give in and bring their open sale pricing down to compete with the other $30-50 VSTs. I was willing to buy in at $49 each for the 1176/LA-2a, but for whatever reason they don't want my money right now. Which is cool, saved me from GAS and helped me remember that I have many other compressors in those styles even if they don't sound exactly the same. |

I would probably have bought 3 out of 4 of the packs on sale, but I'm definitely not buying any of them at $300/pop. IMO, their best hope of getting people to buy into their hardware lies in making LUNA as robust as possible as quickly as possible. If LUNA is truly amazing, and if the only way to access LUNA is via UAD hardware, that'll get more people in the door. |

Re, Luna, but then you need to run apollo otherwise you can’t run your session: a nonstarter for me, so I never got into luna: don’t like hardware dependencies.

Again -- apologies if this is a dead horse! Not sure that my 2 bits will be of any help to you, but will try. If you don't know, the UAD and UADx (native) plug versions null and sound the same. And while the answer to the broad question comparing plugin quality between software co's is subjective, meaning you'll get different answers from different people, I think the differences in general are more about personal sonic preference than one of quality. The 4 plugs you mentioned above from UA of 1176/LA2A/Pultec/Fairchild are well regarded software emulations (especially for $49) by many, yet nothing is everyone's cup of tea. So the best thing to do is demo them all for yourself to see what your sonic taste prefers. Features vary between plugs, for example the UA 660 Fairchild plug has side chain and mix knob while some other emulations don't, but again is personal preference on what matters most sonically to you that may be different than someone else. Compare with others, b4 i sold my ua plugs/ satellite, was worried I would regret doing so, never happened, ua is not the only plug in game in town, so take its sales pitches with a large grain of salt

I went ahead and tried Spark but didn’t end up keeping it because there wasn’t anything in there that beat out what I already own. That said, it would be a nice bundle to see at a for hire studio since it’s such familiar stuff. |

Ha, ok, so now the e-mail with the Spark subscription just got a complimentary LUNA license plus a year of the Neve, API, Ampex & Studer extensions included. They certainly are full of surprises lately, I've never owned any of their stuff. |

The $49 code worked ok here. Checkout did have a note indicating it was for select persons on their email list. I don't own any UAD stuff so maybe it's directed at pulling newer people in?
I picked up the LA-2A. Might go back and grab the 1176 also but I don't really need it, of course I didn't need the 2A either...
