Al Kooper had a fine voice. He downplays it, but the early BS and T's stuff is cool too. Chris And if you haven't yet, his "Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards" is a great read of his involvement in the music industry. Very informative and written with a wonderfully self-deprecating sense of humor. Highly recommended.

The Heiserman method to mic-ing a 122 Leslie. H251 on top, and the H47t on the bottom. Of course if you want stereo on top, a pair of the H251s would come in handy.
Niiiiice. No one says you can't pan those two mics...

Curious on those who've received theirs - the email I received three weeks or so ago was a bit confusing saying something like "your spot is coming up soon in the next batch and we'll be sending out invoices. Let us know if you need to remain on the waitlist."
I took that to mean if I sent no response, just wait on the invoice and if I wasn't purchase-ready now, let them know.
Do I have that right or was I supposed to respond? I'm in no rush as we just wrapped a record and I'm in the process of moving my studio (again, lol).

Hi Bat, The email is for the client to know that their position in the queue has come and their mic is being built up/ tested... A non-response to the email puts the client back on the waitlist. I have since changed the wording of the email to include "please reply and let us know". You are still on the list and another email will go out once we cycle back around. Thanks Dave Wheeler.

Well, I finally bought an Upton 251! Maybe the only reason I found a new one available was all this excitement about Heiserman model being released. I’ve got no regret as of now though :-) I will say: the Upton mount does not play well with my Latch Lake mic stand (won’t screw in at all)…which is a bummer. Hopefully the H251 has no such issue Hmm - I am using the Upton with the Latch Lake mic stand and there are no problems. Is this a shock mount? I am not using a shock mount. This is not the best place to post this, since it's not directly Heiserman focused, but I wanted to quickly update about my experience with my Upton 251 not playing well with (either) of my Latch Lake micKing 2200 stands (since related discussion is here) - it turns out that the threads on the Latch Lake Spin Grip are extremely precise and set to 5/8" - this didn't work with the Upton. I should clarify that Upton worked with my other stands. Latch Lake was able to supply me with a version of the Spin Grip post having a metric "equivalent", actually an approximation to several decimal places to the 5/8", apparently often used for things manufactured outside of the USA (not to be confused with "European" threads). This simple swap works fine with the Upton mount and I credit Latch Lake for all the help/quick turn around.

So, I am glad they swapped yours out. Latch Lake has gone up another notch in my book. Or as Chris would say, that company is outSTANDing!

Still waiting for the drBill report on the Heiserman 251! Given how awesome the capsules are for the Heiserman 47 (I have both capsule choices), I am betting that the Heiserman capsule for the 251 will be amazing, but I still really want to hear it!

I WANT TO GET TO IT!!! But schedules have stopped me the last couple weeks. Hopefully soon. I can report that the build is spectacular, the attention to detail is second to none, and it even sounds great on my crappy voice. LOL. Hopefully I can have more to say soon! Initial impressions tell me this is the one to beat!

When my Heiserman 47 arrived after waiting a number of months, I had just gotten Covid! So I waited weeks to even open the box! Sort of Murphy's law of equipment arrivals!

I’ve had the Upton - it’s a great mic. Dallas does a fantastic job with the capsules and they look great. That being said, they’re two different things…The Heiserman is basically a 1:1 historically correct version. In the shootout I attended with Steiger’s vintage 251, H251 and the Upton, we all thought the H251 sounded like a brand new version of the vintage mic. The Upton sounded great too - not as close, but if you didn’t have the other two around, you’d have no idea. And it’s $2k cheaper. If you want as close to the real thing as you can get, spend the extra $2k. So I think the 251 market is great right now. That’s how I hear the H47, like a brand new OG 47 as I used to have a NOS one I stupidly sold. Great to hear he’s nailed it with the H251. That would be my first choice now if I was 251 shopping. I love my pair of 47’s though so much.

Agree with you Paul! There is a great Heiserman 251 review in Tape Op by Anthony Gravino, including a comparision with the "Dolly" 251 owned by Jeff Steiger. Now I am even more excited to check out the Heiserman 251.

What tube does it use - a 6072 TAD Highgrade? I've not heard of that tube - is it a modern tube?
Actually what tube does their Tube47 use? On their website it looked like it was an EF8XX that's another tube I've not heard of .... is that related to an EF86?

Hey all, Still recovering from NAMM Finally back to 90%. That's good enough for me. Regarding the 251 tube 6072 TAD Highgrade, It's a modern JJ 6072 that the Tube Amp Doctor hand selects across a very large lot 10k or more of JJ tubes. They essentially are the top 1% of the tubes selected. And all the tubes for the 47 are NOS ef800 ef80 variants. Most recently we are using the NOS ef80 Philips Miniwatt as standard and offering NOS Mullard Blackburn & NOS Telefunken as an upgrade. Thanks, Eric

I have to step back further on the 251 waiting list now. The hurricane from last autumn did far more damage to our home's roof than we figured . . . so the pile of cash set aside for my ELAH251 has been directed elsewhere.
Insurance won't cover us. Insurance sucks.
