These pedals don't let me tweak like a freak and dial out the coolness. This is why I never really got on with "menu divey" kind of amp sim hardware or amp sim plugins. The Iridium was the first thing I ever used that actually felt like using a real amp. I'd be curious to give these UAFX a try.

I could totally be fine with the Axe…but I do think you can get a great sound quicker with the pedals. And they definitely have more detail. But that can be achieved with tweaking the axe.

Can someone post a photo of the power supply ?
Wondering if it’s universal if I could buy one of these from overseas

I think that's what I like so much about Boss Katana, no screens whatsoever, it works like a "regular amp."

This vid is a must watch. My issue with these kind of videos is the potential for them to be back to front. I have absolutely no idea if the amp has been made to sound like the pedal. When ever I set up my tube amps and mics to my choice of tones absolutely nothing digital gets close to the soul of that sound. Digital solutions are super handy, I use the Ox box from time to time but nothing beats an amp and mics when it’s a serious recording - I’m old fashioned

I started to watch, but found even with the first example, as soon as the pedal has to go dirty, there is a top end sort of synthetic sound/sizzle, that reminds me of amp plug in emulations, not in a good way.
I think a couple of people here are using these new pedals, what’s your real life experience as you hit breakup?

Disclaimer, I haven't used these pedals but after listening to quite a few demos, the Woodrow really doesn't seem to sound very good. The breakup sounds pretty harsh and thin compared to a real Tweed. The Ruby and the Dream definitely sound closer to the amp but on every A/B, as soon as you hear the amp you're like yeah that's the sound. There's another comparison video by Leo Gibson and he gets some goods sounds with the pedal but as soon as he plays on the real amp, he's like, " well I like this better". The notes have more weight, the playing is more even, the high end is smooth but retains all the clarity. I've tried pretty much every simulator out there up to this one and I still like my real amps with a Suhr reactive load better and that still gets easily beaten by just micing my amps.

There’s a literal video that literally shows what the literal amps literally sound like in comparison. That ratty sound on the Tweed Deluxe? That’s what a real one sounds like. That shrill, take the paint off the side of a wall treble on an AC30? That’s what a real one sounds like without a cut.

Again, if you want to know what a Tweed sounds like, there’s literally a video above.
Or here’s one.

In the vid, watch the parts where the players have no idea what they're playing through.
They're in the room, playing, and they're guessing.
You at home, with the answer on the screen for you, is not the same.

Well the Tweed in that video sounds quite a lot better than the pedal. As soon as he starts digging in on the High E string, it just doesn't break up in the same way and the differences between the amp and the pedal become very noticeable
The Ruby and the Dream are very close I agree, like very very close, the Woodrow just isn't.
I'm literally sitting next to a 5E3, a Princeton Brownface, and an AC30 and all I can say is if my real Fender Tweed sounded like that pedal, I would sell it in a heartbeat.

As the guy mentioned in the UA video - go check out Eagles “One Of These Nights”. Honestly never really thought about that sound, but it’s definitely that cranked, folding in on itself Tweed.

So your vintage tweed sounds different than the ones in those two videos?

Apparently you can’t. But there IS a literal video comparing the two right above. I’ve played through and been around a bunch of Tweed Deluxe’s. Some of them vintage. My experience has been very similar to what was in the UA video. I didn’t buy the Woodrow. It’s not really a tone I’d go for much, but to me - that’s what a vintage TD sounds like.
And again - I bought the other two pedals myself without any discount or knowledge of UA. So I have zero to gain by giving a positive review.

So your vintage tweed sounds different than the ones in those two videos? No it sounds very similar to the real amps, I find the pedal sounds hairier, a little spitty on top for my taste and doesn't compress as much as the real amp when they're playing clean. Again listening to the Dream demo, at times just listening blind they were close to indistinguishable. The Woodrow, I could hear the cuts. I think there's something with the 5E3 circuit that is very hard to replicate without a real speaker. MY deluxe doesn't sound very good going through my Suhr reactive load. It sounds harsh, I've tried dozens of IRs and it never quite sounds right. And then I just stick a 57 in front of it and it works.

You at home, with the answer on the screen for you, is not the same. Just for clarity, who was paid how much to make this video and given free stuff, etc? I understand if you "don't want to answer" but it seems like a relevant piece of information, at least "to me." Not that I really have time in my life to care about pedal shootouts, and I actually "don't," but here we are, at least for now. Even if they were paid - are they clairvoyant when they’re blind guessing the wrong choice?

I can see that. I never got along with the UA TD plug…there were times in that video I thought dude could have done more to make them sound more similar. They sound close enough and in a mix context I'm sure you could bridge the gap with a few tools. I'm not a Tweed or Vox fan so there's no bias or magical fairy dust nuance's I'm trying to extract from the depths of middle earth. If that's what you're after save some $$$'s and get the box, I would.

And I have zero to gain by being skeptical or having "different opinions." The tone difference I could hear in the now-famous video I would describe as "subtle." But, nonetheless, a subtle difference, when perceived, is still a difference. I think bryce is somewhere like this too, if I had to guess. The differences between guitar amps are so "subtle" anyway that as guitar players, I think we have a way of magnifying these differences when we hear them. Guitar players are picky mofos. Maybe in a few years I'll try to find a Ruby on sale used or something, seems like a fun pedal. It's cool that UA is "going for it" in this crowded market in their own weird way, it's definitely different to other amp/IR pedals or whatever, unique. Man I was thinking the same thing. I can muddle through (actually, better than that) with amplitube 5 just fine, but a Ruby on the 2nd hand market some day is likely to be a rocking point of value. And BTW, I can go record with a real tweed Princeton about any day of the week on short notice, but I’d much rather use what I have at home when inspiration strikes than to take myself out of the moment and go to the project studio. In other words, the only thing better than a real amp is a fresh idea.

My favorite thing about that is this notion that "It doesn't really matter." And that's true. It doesn't matter if you play a vintage tweed deluxe, a UA $400 pedal, or a $40 Guitar Center combo practice amp. Well it does matter, I've done a recording with the cheapest crap I could get my hands on. Try telling anyone that an $8.00 Korg distortion box doesn't "matter".. I've used some digital combo / practice amps and they were also dire. That's not what we talk about on these forums though, we're not a prosumer group and most of the time it's splitting hairs between one awesome piece of something and another awesome piece of something. I'm just trying to find where that line is. It's a grey area: a very large, expansive one. (Not an "expensive" one, necessarily, but sometimes, yes.) It doesn't matter, and it does. We all sort of find our own water level if that makes sense. Splitting hairs between top shelf uber-expensive gear is so not interesting to me I have to find other reasons to talk on RGO. I guess I'm more interested in people, and ideas, than "things." "Stuff." I've used crappy gear too, but that's not what "we're talking about." :-D In a way, it almost goes without saying. But it's fun to joke around about crappy gear, too.
