Avid changed everything again. Not like 'they changed the game' more like 'they changed the name'
Pro Tools Artist - It ain't Free, but it is limited to 32 tracks, so if you've missed LE, they've got you covered.
Pro Tools Studio - Vanilla, now in surround sound, plus the missing big boy automation modes and clip fx.
Pro Tools Flex - Bundle that includes Ultimate for the requisite HDX compatibility and... not much else.
Will be updating my 'Studio' license for the Carbon tweaks, surround routing, automation and clip fx additions, oh and of course the SynthCell and GrooveCell VIs, virtual SampleCell throwbacks. Amazingly, it still supports my 2012 Mini and 2014 MBP.

I downloaded it. And besides now native having 256 I/O…. Still the same crap. Clip FX was ALWAYS in ultimate. I was HOPING it would have a ping feature so I could use parallel comping on AUX with hardware but NOPE!

Well I’m confused again (always) I’d love to be wrong butthis is a quote from Pro Tools expert “Apple Silicon Compatibility One feature many will have been anticipating which is conspicuously absent is native Apple Silicon compatibility. With the recent announcement of full Apple Silicon support for iLok there has been a flurry of plugin developers announcing compatibility, and with the other major DAWs having announced compatibility Pro Tools is conspicuous in not yet having native Apple Silicon support. Whether this matters depends very much on who you are but our thoughts are that Rosetta works so well that it’s less of a big deal than it might appear. If you look at the results we got in our tests with an M1 Max equipped Mac for both a music and a post session, the one thing which wasn’t in short supply was power. The power benefits of the current generation of M1 Macs, and for those affected by it the power gains introduced by the Hybrid Engine in Pro Tools mean that the necessity for Native M1 support is less urgent than it would have been without these developments. I’m sure there will be those who don’t agree but the amazing performance of Rosetta must change priorities when it comes to allocating the time of your development team.

I’ve been running it all day on my Mac studio . No problems so far maybe the first PT update I’ve done that’s been bug free (so far) Pt studio now has Heat added . Designed in conjunction with Dave Hill.

If you don't have perpetual and would like it, find a deal (cough, SW, cough) that has perpetual licenses, because once they're gone, all new PT purchases will be subscription only.

I can’t even read the thread and not get confused: good ol avid ! It's by design. Besides, only the Pros use Pro Tools. It's in the name! Many folks on the internet have said so.

"What? Your studio doesn't use Pro Tools? Oh, uh, no, I'm only interested in booking with a PROFESSIONAL studio." I get it, we all have our moments of elitism, but as a nearly lifelong Pro Tools user I never understood the DAW elitist attitude some folks have with PT.
I'm hoping that this major shift in marketing/labeling will inspire them to update more often; it might be a long shot, but I'm hoping we get to M1 native before my current update plan dries up.

It's never the clients. It's always other engineers.. And yes, it always seems to come from a place of elitism. All DAWs do pretty much the same thing but I only ever get talked down to by PT users.

Easiest PT upgrade I've had in 15 years. Was on 2020.9.1, one of the 2021 versions crapped out and I had to revert so I was hesitant but just wrapped one project and next one starts tomorrow so have the whole day incase this was problematic. Nope, was quick and easy... a little too quick and easy... but so far so good. I'm on Catalina 10.15.7 if that helps anyone.

I can’t even read the thread and not get confused: good ol avid ! It's so true. The reason I decided on PT was compatibility. But, all DAWs do the same thing, and it's really about engineer comfort. In dablings before jumping into a DAW, it was MY experience that DAWs that were outgrowths of MIDI sequencers didn't mesh with my 'audio guy' mind. PT works, pretty much, like I was used to in terms of routing, mixing, and recording. The editing make sense generally, and I get around it pretty well. I don't really want to think about my DAW, so I'm sticking with it. Had I spent this long on some other DAW, and felt comfortable, I'd stick with that. But, as I said, things I tried before it didn't mesh. I was at a conference with Paul Womack recently and he did a mix breakdown. His comment was "I use Cubase, because I have forever and I know it." That seems to be how most of us are with our gear, in general, and even more with our DAWs.
