Hey everyone, hope you're having a creative day! We've been reading a lot of posts on this forum (and others) lately and overall we deeply respect your incredible support and dedication to helping us serve you better. We're still learning, and a lot of that learning comes from current, past and potential customers. Please don't ever change. We need feedback, suggestions and 'course corrections' from time to time. Some of what we've heard is borne out of frustration and while we're not causing shortages and delays in the supply chain, we take responsibility for our place in it as a supplier to you. We're working harder to find better supplies of critical components and be able to meet demand in the near future! And shhh, but we're looking at making even more of our own components. We vow to be able to meet every need in the coming year to 18 months. On the issue of our ordering and checkout process, well that might be tangly and hard to give everyone the answer they want. We could have a waiting list, but then people pop on and jump off and we can't really depend on it. And neither can you, with the amount of products we offer(and the way the world is) it isn’t feasible to implement this type of system. We absolutely refuse to take down payments on gear we don't have available for sale. So we're going to continue on with the system we have in place. It makes things as simple as possible so our main focus can be building and supplying as much as possible for you. As soon as we get inventory together, we'll post it for sale, At least twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays and the occasional extra stock up day, like we have done since the beginning in 2016. We're going to continue to do our best to increase the amount of inventory we have for sale until we reach a good balance that satisfies everyone. We've also been doing our best to keep costs (and thus prices) down and haven't really had a price increase that matches inflation in years! This is handmade gear, made in Florida, with the finest components in the world. We think our reputation speaks for itself and promise to always be honest and faithful to every one of you. And thank you so much to the forum owner/operator and moderators here! You all have been very kind, gracious, and lenient to us.
-Every last one of us here at Audioscape

I have two questions -- the first: do you have any plans on another "D3A" type product where you end up racking two of your 500 series modules together in a 1U format? The second: have a ballpark for what price* to expect for the fairchild style comp?
edit: forgot to actually complete the question

Any chance on the 1178 there will be a variable stereo link like the api 2500 has? Just a thought!

Thanks! We really are trying the best we can every day to crank out product. We've been consistent but we really want to do more to meet demand. Definitely a goal! And great questions!
"I have two questions -- the first: do you have any plans on another "D3A" type product where you end up racking two of your 500 series modules together in a 1U format? This has been discussed but hasn't reached the mechanical prototype phase yet, hoping in the near future to make progress on this concept."
"The second: have a ballpark for what price* to expect for the fairchild style comp?"
We haven't hit the Rev 2 phase of prototyping on the 670 but it will be our most expensive product once we button it up. The parts list is bonkers, and we aren't skimping on any iron or tubes... Like with any AS product, the goal is to provide the highest quality product for the best price we can offer it. Once we have more details we will spill the beans ;-)
"Any chance on the 1178 there will be a variable stereo link like the api 2500 has? Just a thought!"
We are still exploring options/add-ons, I think this is an excellent idea!
Cheers, Chris

This is very cool! One product I've been curious about is the V108, but it hasn't been in stock in a while. Any idea of when it'll be in stock again? Thanks!

I know a guy who knows a guy who assembles stuff and might be able to get one in a box, if you follow.

Can you give us any hints what is in the new product pipeline? The company is absolutely slammed now meeting demand, trying to find new suppliers for critical parts and we don’t even need to talk about tubes! New projects? Well, it's hard to get enough time to move to the next stage of development. So nothing to announce for the next little while, but keep checking back! Chris is flat out doing QC at the moment

Question about the 1178.. is it just a stereo 76 or is there something else going on that just using two 76’s won’t do?

So can you give a brief exlanation on the timelines it takes to get a product from ... what a great idea..... to prototypes...... to QC. .... to testing it out in the market...... to releasing it?? This would let buyers know the typical expectations they could have. Especially when there are some companies out there that do the very naughty thing of spruiking a product that is not in existance yet, or not even close to being released to market... Example of a good company product would be Eric from Locomotive Audio announcing a new product the 2-86 stereo tube preamp. And hey guys the first batch comes out the next month of March in small numbers, he lets every know that that is sold out and the next batch will be available in late April and the close off of the special intro pricing if you place your order before a certain date. Great....customers know the product is coming , when they can expect it to be ready and what price they will be paying. Awesome job.

I just got a pair of Optos second hand (yay!), its my first time running two mono units in stereo, and the gain is uneven on the units by quite a bit, I need to push one up about twenty points of gain for it to be close to even - will a stereo link cable fix this or should the units be fairly close in gain normally for them to work well in stereo? The serial numbers are about 10 apart and ordered as a pair.
If I just need a stereo link cable, any suggestions on which to get?
Thanks guys

Congrats on getting some Optos! When we do pairs of any product we aim to ship them with sequential serial numbers and have the gain controls roughly match when unlinked. When linked, both units will essentially compress the same but the gain controls will still be independent of each other. You can use a simple TS instrument cable to link them through the cliff jacks on the back panel, any decent brand cable should do the trick. If you need some more info please feel free to shoot us an email at tech@audio-scape.com and we can help get you sorted :-)
Thanks, Chris

It's no joke. TRAINWRECK!!!! Absolutely loving that they did this. It's 04/02 and we can conclusively say this is no joke L.Trainor is an amazing artist and knocked these out of the park. And a super huge shout-out to drBill for this amazing idea and facilitating this happening! We realize this is a specialty and not everyone is into this kind of aesthetic, but for those who are this fits the bill nicely and we had a blast working on them here at AS headquarters. It definitely makes sense for us to do limited series in 2022 with supply chains the way they've been lately. We appreciate everyone's positivity and cool vibes while we navigate these interesting times :-)

The audio circuit is like a G/H revision 1176 with the opamps and such, but some of the controls are common between the sides and can't be set separately for each side. The interactivity between the two semi-independent L and R channels and the ability to gang them together is crucial to its sound! Perhaps the most renowned use for an 1178 is backing vocals but also fantastic on drum buss, key buss, and 2 buss. for those who know, the 1178 is to backing vocals as a 76a or 76f is to lead vocals. Strictly in the FET vein, of course. I poopooed using FETs forever until I just broke down one day and bought one and then realized it was the sound I grew up on and learned on and really made me smile!

Strictly in the FET vein, of course. I poopooed using FETs forever until I just broke down one day and bought one and then realized it was the sound I grew up on and learned on and really made me smile! Ya I've found FET comps can be some of the most transparent comps around in terms of TIME rather than DISTORTION with respect to what is fed into them FETs are linear rather than logarithmic. so they need feedback to sound natural. Feedback makes them self-adjusting unlike a feed forward comp (unless the FF comp is some crazy complex inside stuff) but that means it should top out at a mild 2:1 ratio normally because the feedback loop also lowers the threshold. The ratio is just different starting point on the transfer curve of the fet, but this also applies to other pre vca comps, so with those with both input and threshold knobs or buttons, you’re choosing a different knee and ratio on the curve. But To get the side chain signal there for higher ratios, they have non linear gain in the control loop and so it has to have a negative theoretical maximum ratio to come out with a higher ratio so they have crazy math and parts experimentation to make them sound natural while doing more Combine the linear fet with the self adjustment of feedback, knee that stops compressing after a certain amount of gain reduction, and slight amount of saturation, means that you can stamp down transients with a much milder attack filter if hit right and it will self adjust. Or you can abuse most FET comps to be crazy explosive distortion machines… Meanwhile try to clamp down with most VCA style comps on a drum with the more aggressive attack and you’ll make it sound like a drum machine or sample. A few plugins with feedforward/feedback switches will let you use the non-linear/non-logarithmic feedback ratio in a feedfoward config when set to do so and the result is crazy omnipressor expanding and pumping. And you can make feedforward compressors behave like feedback ones. There are a couple of cool aes papers from around 20 years ago showing functions to get identical results: secure.aes.org/forum/pubs/journal/?elib=12090secure.aes.org/forum/pubs/conventions/?elib=12380

I got the TS cable and linked the optos but the amount of compression on the units according to the meters are still very different. Are they supposed to visually show the same gain reduction on the meters when linked or no?
