If I was trying to get into the native plugins without the subscription I'd just buy a satellite. Keep using whatever interface you are happy with. The Unison preamps are a nice option at times, but not really why you want to get into UAD plugins, native or DSP.
A QUAD satellite to run all the high DSP needs like Ocean Way or reverbs, and then run native plugs for most of the rest of the mix.

Was just about to WUP a couple plugs, grab the BB tubes, and the CLA Epic. Then I realize that I'm close to the price of a year of UAD, for some BS that I don't ultimately care that much about. I think I'm gonna drop the money on a year of the SPARK instead. Anyone regretting jumping into the UA Spark?

The UAD plugs I do use are essential to me, so getting Spark seems like a good idea Jesse.. Unfortunately I can't get rid of the ones I don't use, but that's UAD for you.

Yes, it's equivalent to 5 years of Spark, but if you know you love UAD, why not get every plugin? You get the native versions as they get released. I didn't get it because this is not the greatest year financially, but I would have definitely done it if I had the cash on hand.

UA is selling Ultimate for $1200 regardless of how many plug ins you already own, ironically, its least invested clients get the best deal ever.

For me, and I have a lot of paid for UAD plugins the important thing is to have a physical written out list of what I do have! I admit to having such a huge plugin collection that at times I forget about great plugins simply because I can't remember them all. Same goes for Fabfilter, TC, Soundtoys, NI etc
I'd love a touch screen to my right hand side full of little clip art sized mini GUI's of each one that I could select at the touch of a finger and insert into a Cubase insert slot.
6 pages of 100 per page should just about do it for my collection.
1 page just for reverbs and delays :-)

With hardware I’m looking at like a 2k layout vs $150 for a year of test drive.

I’ve never used UAD and don’t have hardware to go with it. With hardware I’m looking at like a 2k layout vs $150 for a year of test drive. Ultimate 11 made a lot of sense for me...I hadn't bought a UAD a plugin in a couple years but over the past 10 had it offered for $999. That's a lot, but pretty much everything I was interested in was in that bundle, minus a couple, which I bought the other day for $250 with the Custom 3 bundle...I think the only plug-in I have the tiniest amount of interest in that I don't have is the Tri Stereo Chorus...but even at $50 I can't pull the trigger But Spark is amazing, I've been using it a ton. No turds in the bunch. If they are plug-ins you think you'll use a lot I'd go for it. And while the hardware path is expensive, it honestly saves me money because I have UAD cards in three different studios I work in, and will probably get a small two channel interface to use with virtual instruments on my laptop to keep at the studio once I get a new desktop for home. It's nice that they are available at all those places and I don't have to case an iLok/it's tied to once piece of hardware.

Sub is cheap, isn’t there a 3 month deep discount right now ?
You can buy a used octo for well under a grand and u11 would be $1200 and its normally $1,000’s more.
Never a cheaper time ( couple of days), to jump into ua .

A couple of days left on their end of year promos. I got a really good deal on an Apollo Solo from VK and got the following plugs free: Pultec Collection, LA2A Collection, 1176 Collection, 610 Pre/EQ, Pure Plate, Fairchild, Helios Type 69, Oxide, LA3A, V76, Marshal Plexi Classic, Ampeg SVT-VR, Rat Pedal, Realverb and a bunch of Precision plugs.
Then, used the 'refer-a-friend' promo to get the Century Tube Channel for free. And, using discount codes, I was able to get the 1073 and API Vision Strips as part of the 'pick any 2' bundle for $75. Pretty good haul.
Now, I have another code in my account and I'm thinking of another 'pick any 2' bundle before the promo ends. The 224 and the API 2500 look pretty nice. But, then again there's Ocean Way...

You might want to consider ampex for your 2 bus,
if you are thinking another bundle maybe contact CS and see if you could switch your 2 bundle to the 3, as ua doubles it and you get to choose 6 plugs .

Between the Solo and the first bundle, I spent about $560 all in.
But, there's still 2 days left in the promo so who knows, LOL!

If you buy it you’ll likely get a thank you coupon etc, which could be used on api 2500?

BTW, if any new users take advantage of the promo, send me a PM. We can both get a free plug in via the 'refer a friend' promo: www.uaudio.com/refer/

It’s something to think about. I don’t know that much about the non-Apollo hardware but I have seen that it’s available for cheaper. Another point for UA: I tried to replace the 1176 Blue-face plug with the PA MC77 set to the same settings and GR (12:1-6-7), and the comparison wasn’t even close. The PA Purple keeps the dynamics in check but it does *terrible* things to the tone. The UA Rev A is as smooth as can be. The PA Purple MC77 is modeled from a controversially bright sounding unit. Then again some of us are of the opinion that any 1176 does terrible things to the tone.

Developments: Universal Audio added the Fairchild 670 and 660 compressor to the Spark subscription.
I am not a Spark subscriber because I already own most of what is in the package, but if I was just getting into trying UAD I think what they offer are some pretty strong tools for a low for-rent price. If you had an album project that you planned a generous one year time frame to track and produce, you could have a strong handful of tools for $150 for that year. Wrap up your album project and walk away from it until you needed something more. If you can do it in a couple months it would be $40 and you could re-subscribe if you needed to do recalls and fixes later.
If you already own the UAD2 version, you can download the UADx version at no charge.
You can buy the product today and get both versions.

Another wrinkle, If you buy uad2 and get the uadx, both can be sold. The new uadx standalone plugs cannot be resold.

The purchase is always for both formats. No price change, etc. I guess the one exception is the new rotary leslie speaker, but only because they didn't bother to make it in UAD2.

Yeah, I was getting ready to say, people should mostly stop thinking about native vs DSP, when it comes to buying UAD plugins. You make one purchase and get both the native and DSP versions. For the most part, there is no longer a distinction that needs to be made. You get both and use one or the other or both, as you see fit. UA could do a better job of hammering that concept home.

Completely disagree, the new bundles are native and uadx, while cheaper to purchase, they cannot be sold. From ua website:
Transfers
Will I be able to sell/transfer my native UAD plug-ins to someone else?
No, transfers of native UAD plug-ins alone are not supported.
