I did a null test + CPU(intel Mac mini) vs DSP(Quad UAD-2 satellite) comparison for anyone interested in that: Nice vid, and thanks for doing that, Josh!

I think UA will be very cagey about what gets ported to uadX and when ! Yea, though I am glad they put the 1176 collection and LA collection along with the Studer in there. That's my meat and potatoes UAD stuff! I look forward to more, though.

I was really curious to know if they were the same, glad to know they completely null. Despite my best efforts, I'm still seeing people say(not here of course) that the DSP versions sound "wider," "more depth," etc... haha. The two top plugins I hope they release native versions of next are the SSL channel and the culture vulture. I can barely run any of those on my quad satellite.

Guess the code matches up! I'm excited about this. It's honestly been a bummer to run out of DSP on my octa on 96k sessions. This will help a lot.
LOL - yea so many of these folks would fail the Foobar blind test. Can't deny the almighty null!

I've heard people deny the almighty null. I don't know if it's hilarious or just sad? This thing of bloviating, "I can't explain it, but even though it nulls, I'm hearing this and that difference and so on," type of thing. What's that old line, the only thing that's infinite is the human capacity for ignorance? But I believe we also have unlimited positive potential at the same time. :-D

Perhaps , the null to nothingness is between some peoples’ plug ins and their ears ?

OK, I have always been anti-UA after my hardware/software dongle experience with ProTools. I quit PT a long time ago too. I had refused to buy an interface with plugins as part of the reasoning for purchase. I prefer "free-range" interfaces with no plugin alliances bought for conversion quality – as much as I can afford, of course. LOL. No puns intended. That said, I did buy an Antelope interface though I bought it for conversion and didn't use the plugins until about a year in. They sound gorgeous by the way, just too buggy to use consistently. I really tried. No biggie.
All that said, I decided to demo spark. I mean what the heck, everyone says their plugins are great and it didn't require a hardware dependency. My feedback is.... good God. API channel strip is one of the best strip I have tried. I have most of the SSL strips from everyone, some others from PA and the EQ and Comp (which I do love) from Empirical Labs. Actually, the UA API and EL BigFreq and Arouser are both amazing.
I’m impressed. I also last night farted around with the Lexicon verb. I found a setting that may be supremely useful. My problem with verbs usually is that the sound cluttered. Not so with this. I will be playing with Spark for a while.

I really like API Vision too. I like the new Hitsville EQ as well. I own all of the plugins except for the Pure Plate, so I don't subscribe, but getting the native versions is nice, especially since I can use more instances now. Handy with the 1176 and 1083.
I have heard the complaints about the number of plugs for the money in Spark, but I feel like the quality of the plugs makes it an excellent value. The question is always how many will they add and will the price change.
If you really need the tools long term, buy them or find an alternative. But if you were a part time guy, or just working on a short term project, spending the money for these for a month or two would be well worth it. The price for a year also isn't really worse than the price many spend on one plugin, so getting all of these is quite useful.

And to be honest even when something doesn't null and the differential information is down below the average systems noise floor then in real terms to the human ear within even a basic simple mix those differences are not detectable by the human ear. I proven this many times with double blind ABX testing. The threshold for detectability is a lot higher than some people image. Double blind ABX testing - now there's a myth busting tool, if ever there was one :-)

The pricing and the addition of the the new $299 eq at no extra cost underscores UA’s dilemma.
Whose going to pay $299, when someone else gets to use the same plug for practically nothing?
I understand the own vs rent paradigm, but I think UA is going to have to be very cagy about which and how many plugs get added to spark.

I understand the own vs rent paradigm, but I think UA is going to have to be very cagy about which and how many plugs get added to spark. I'm someone who would buy it, provided I liked it of course. I also would wait for it to go on sale, as I've never ever paid anywhere near full price for any UAD plugin. Were I forced to go subscription, I'd be right there complaining with you, but UA offered subscription in addition to the option to straight up buy, and, for those of us who bought, we get the native versions for free. I know you know all of this, but I don't get the complaining on this one, and I'm someone who is not afraid to complain about UA sometimes. Now, where I might start to complain is if UA ever stops offering sales on the UAD plugins, but it doesn't seem like that will be the case. The half yearly sale just started.

Not certain where you get the complaining idea. I was commenting on UA’s price product dilemma in terms of a value proposition to old and new clients.
Was just surprised that Motown eq was added to Spark at same price, basically subscribers are getting it for nothing as they were already paying the current price.
I, like you, buy on sale to help manage costs, am curious to see how many and which plugs UA adds to spark and whether it will now automatically add new plugs ( non unison), to Spark and where it’s price goes.

I'm not surprised. That's kind of the point of the subscription. UA has said all along that more UADx plugins would be added as time went on, and without an increase in price. Now, at some point, there may end up being some kind of tiered system for the subscription thing, but UA hasn't indicated such and, thus far, all they've said is that subscribers will get any new plugins, as they're added, for the same price. On a related note, I see that the new Waterfall Organ is on sale for $99. With the $25 coupon they just sent, I might have to think about it. That's pretty quick for them to already put it on sale.

Agreed, the Waterfall deal is very good: it’s very well reviewed .

Even if we add 1-2 a month, it'll take years to do the whole library. If you're UAD2 now, you keep on keeping on with all this free added value. If you're Spark, sit back and enjoy the additions! This is win win for everyone.

If I run out of Octo capacity I can leverage a bit of CPU, remote locations with UA plugs are now far easier. Sales are constant meaning pricing is decent, also there's only a finite amount of plugs one needs.. Sweet, good job.!

My concern was really about pricing, rent vs buy.
Like many/most, I find I actually regularly use around 10 of my UA plugs ins. When I compare their actual and opportunity cost to the monthly price and the spark plug in selection , there could be a time where paying a monthly fee to work on a song and selling my UA plugs and satellite is appealing.
I understand UA talking this up. I am more sanguine , as the spark plugs running native also provides an alternative to buying its cards and implicitly Apollos if you don’t track with UA plugs.
Anyway, curious to see what gets added to Spark and it’s price point: to each their own.

How's the CPU hit on these feel natively? Compared to other native plugins? I am on windows, so I can't try it out yet

I haven’t read any concerns about this, more that people appreciate the hybrid dsp option: running UA both on its sharc chips and natively.

Yeah...I find it pretty awesome. I still rarely run out of DSP even with just an X6

FYI
Pultec EQ Collection was added to Spark today. So, the three EQs that you get with UAD2. No change in pricing that I can see.
And all the UADx plugins were updated with native Apple silicon support. (No need for Rosetta.)
