I’m still on the fence a bit. I worry about loosing my pair of FleA 49s in favor of a mismatched Neumann/FleA combo (I’d want to keep at least one of my FleAs). Also trying to justify the expense. My performance work hasn’t really recovered from the pandemic. I’ve been in touch with my dealer and he advised he’ll order one for me as soon as I give the go ahead. We’ll see. Looking forward to the official announcement.

To Ward, DrBill & the rest: Guess it'll all boil down to when we actually listen to it. So, as of now we really can't state anything with conviction. But I'm willing to have an open mind about it, specially with Klaus's involvement. Let's see (hear) ... plus it's been fun talking about something that was unobtainable (unobtainium) 2 years ago? I feel what you're saying. But OTOH, Neumann/Sennheiser went through incredible pains the make the U67 reissue a continuation of where it left off, and it shines like a diamond. Some people LOVE Klaus's mods to it as well. Either way, it honors the heritage and really does it justice. As someone who has a vintage 67 in good working order I really like the re-issue, I understand manufacturing variations and being unlucky but I unplugged those corks out of my nostrils a while back. I really don't seem to understand it, for example I posted a WA-8000 example from a Chicago recording facility and the sound quality blew my brains out. Same with the 67 re-issue, I've heard some awesome quality stuff come from that mic.. However when it gets into the wild all of a sudden it becomes a big ol' stinky POS.
So what is it? The mic or the user?

I've tried allot of mics on my channel and each and every time I checked out a mic sample online and then did a test of it I always thought it sounded better in my room and that includes everything from boutique stuff like chandler Redd to WA mics. I don't know if it's my voice or room but usually mics are allot brighter on online tests then it is when I've demoed it. There are allot of nice affordable mics today!

I have to agree with crillemannen. I would often grab my own microphones and head to bigger studios to test higher end mics before purchasing them. It always amazed me how bright my own rig seemed to sound in comparison. Yes, some of that can be contributed to the conversion, but much of it is the room. I have a great recording I did in a large church and the quality difference between what I did there and what I was getting in my home studio was crazy different. Recently I did a big GIK upgrade to my room and you can really hear the difference in the room. The boxy low end is gone and the brightness is far more subdued.

My eventual spending limit is in Beesneez-maybe FLEA range at most, assuming I ever get a 49 style. Or a Heiserman H47 tube, with the M7 style cap. Again I hope anyone here, who decides on the Neumann Reissue, gets it. Chris

That'll be slap echo / reflections causing the issue but that's obvious and not the mic's fault. My previous house / studio room was a slaptastic chamber (fully treated though) and when I sang using a condenser it was piercing hence the reason I used an SM58 despite having better options. Simply put the room was too small..
If a room is less than perfect I'll reach for an MD441 long before I'd consider any type of condenser microphone, it saves a lot of pain down the road.
P.S I gained experience by doing everything wrong ..

P.S I gained experience by doing everything wrong .. Yup you learn more by making mistakes than from getting it right, biggest lesson what was a screw up on one project may be perfect on another. A perfect example of this is the bass part of the intro of Fleetwood Mac’s Sister of the Moon, how many people would have shut it down afraid they were about to shed some cones? But man it just works for those couple of seconds 😎

Don't know if there's a "list" per se but I ordered one through my dealer. Same. The first dealer I talked to said they couldn't do anything until August, but another took my order, for whatever that's worth. Hoping to get one obviously.

Hey there buddy , how are you finding your rs124’s now that you have had a bit of time with them? And nice purchase of the m49.

Hey there buddy , how are you finding your rs124’s now that you have had a bit of time with them? And nice purchase of the m49. Ha! I forget what I've shared where .. it's been a minute since I've been up here! The short answer is that I enjoy them very much indeed! I've build up a bit of a setup since I got those... and I'm honestly still learning how to use it all. As a songwriter with *very* limited playing skills, and a bit of an obsession with learning how to track and produce compelling demos (hey, everyone's got a hobby right?!) I've really only used them ham-fistedly in a tracking context while still trying to wrap my head around fundamentals like mic placement, gain staging and using the room. I'm still at the cave man level in terms of actually *hearing* compression. I tend to keep them on a pair of coles in blumlein in front of the drum kit, where they bring up the room in a fun way, with a low-mid emphasis I only seem to get out of my 4038s (admittedly probably too close to the toms).. Since I only have 2 compressors in pairs, they gravitate to stereo sources, and since I have no idea what I'm doing, and can't hear subtleties very well, I track them in parallel and lean in pretty heavy.. This method really only seems to yield results I like at all on room mics or sources at some distance, bringing up the diffuse field for a little extra 'natural' reverb. There's something about the sound of a room I've been pursuing for a while now. It just sounds like something that actually happened *somewhere*, which tickles the right stereocilia for me I guess.. ..on a related note.. A friend recently loaned me his UA LA-2A (good friend!) for some test driving while his studio is mid-renovation. This was the opportunity that finally forced me to think through my 'mixing' setup. Took me a whole day, and I ended up wondering why I hadn't done so earlier, but it opened the door to finally inserting my outboard signal processing without latency or additional setup (other than a single patch/unpatch on the patch bay). Since then I've spent a few hours gain matching and really listening to a few different outboard compressors inserted into individual tracks. Boy... So far.. well.. louder is better right Hoping I've got a few more decades to get this right. Sorry for the life story version! Thanks for asking. I love them though! Super excited to see what happens with that m49. It's been a dream mic for a good while... Given how well the 67ri seems to have worked out, and the feedback shared so far, I have high hopes for sure. Hoping it doesn't convince me I need a pair of 67s too though. I've already spent my kids inheritance.. By the way...an LA-2A question.. My friends LA-2A has very noisy, and somewhat jumpy gain pot. He's given me the go-ahead to get in there with some deoxit if I think it might help, but I obviously have no idea. I see the front panel is hinged. Would this be as simple as removing the 4 faceplate screws and spritzing or is there something more to know? I know valve units run serious power, and don't want to end up fried chicken. Thanks!

Yesterday I saw a cool picture of Elvis in the (early) RCA Studio using the M49. Guessing Pre-Army induction, from his very young appearance.
BTW if Klaus doesn't mind briefly schooling us on the basic/various versions of M49's (a/b/etc). And which one the Reissue is... That'd certainly be interesting.
Sorry if I don't remember if it was ascertained which type the Reissue is, earlier here. Chris

"The reissue already made experienced producers and artists literally fall out of their chairs during our field tests." Hmmm - I am going to need a better chair!

“… and will be extremely limited” - what does that even mean? If it’s anything as presented here, I truly could care less and shame on Neumann!
