Wonder what UA and Bock have up their sleeves? Mic modeling 😫. (Conjecture).

Sure; I realized they are FETs. I'm curious if there is actual harmonic loss, or just perceived harmonic loss. Yes; it's a difficult thing to suss-out, and blind A/B mic tube comparisons is probably impossible. In the end, they aren't making the tubes anymore so something will need to happen. I think Phaedrus is on the right track. It's funny, because there are people whose ears I trust who are on both sides of the fence with these. Some claim they get closer to the replacement tubes do. Others say they loose something harmonically and you are better off with a 5048 or 6S6BV. It's certainly tricky stuff to compare.
On the Phaedrus site, they go on about how the 5840 isn't a proper substitute for the real thing. My Blackspade UM17 (with HK47) uses the 5840. It sounds pretty good to me...but I've never used either the Phaedrus or the AC701 ;-} It's also probably the last tube mic I'll ever buy because both the tube mics I've owned have been a PITA (power supply issues), and I just don't care that much about the sonic differences. It's all about the capsule (for me) anyway.

I have a friend who is developing his own mics based on both 251,m49 and so forth and he sent me a bunch of revision clips and the Phaedrus sounded quite bad compared to the original. All Phaedrus has a 2khz push which isn't nice compared to say a 6072. Not unusable but not great.
I would so want a m49re or a limited edition.

Hey all, here is some info. Yes, there will be a limited release. There is no release date yet and no pricing yet. There are a couple of prototypes out and about and you can catch Adele singing into one in an upcoming performance. Let me know any other questions. mc Do you know what tube is in it? Is it an AC701K? Thanks!!!! I am waiting on confirmation from Germany so I dont want to comment until I am sure. I wont get an answer until next week sometime.

I don't know what it is about the modern era of Neumann mics but there's something about the way they capture "s" and "t" that makes my teeth go on edge. One thing I'll say about this video is there is no reason for him to be that close to this microphone, especially without a pop filter. The drums sound super lively in that space. Maybe they were getting too much bleed further back? I'd still stick a filter on there, but the camera guy probably said no.

I don’t have the funds to buy something like this, but if I did, I would sure as hell want the original bayonet style connector on there. That and the original c12 connector are so finely machined and makes handling those mics even more special.

Btw - I don’t know what would ruin it more. Neumann not coming out with one or vice versa I would be fairly certain that Sennheiser are working on ruining NEXT Christmas. At least for our families. But meh, they've got too much stuff now anyhow. Surely they love us enough to understand why we NEED an M49! Really though, I need an M269 as well

I think an M49 is coming but the way they are hinting I suspect other things are on the horizon as well. Maybe they are finally going to reissue the KM 84?

As far as I know, the video also shows this new electret microphone. en-de.neumann.com/miniature-clip-microphoneIt would be interesting to know all the details about the m49, damn I'm very excited.

Well it's definitely a tube mic but doesn't the bottom plate look completely different from a m49? Flatter?
Soundcard as well perhaps? It's just nice that they actually are releasing new mics!

sheesh Neumann..stop releasing these damn Tube mics and give us KM84s like we really want!
The mini capsules were already announced. They look interesting, something to compete with DPA and Schoeps mini series. Doubt it'll be better though personally. Their small diaphragm stuff has never been as good as the competition for years.

Well in europe at least you can still find the rare deal on originals. 6 months ago I was offered a vintage M49 for 7,700 dollars. I actually turned it down simply because it was a later one with the red dot instead of jewel but it had the original yoke and power supply.

Will be aimed at their forehead, from their wife's rifle! Chris
