I think the Digi mod was a lot more involved though, right? i just read the appolo mod list on their site, it mentions nothing about the PSU, or the clock, that explains why my mod was double the $. Either the appolo has stuff thats up to snuff in those 2 positions, or it was too much work to changem out? I can say with my personal DIY experience and IMO, the things they are doing should get you a more open sound out of that box.

well roughly a year and a half if I recall correctly
it shocked me at first; thought I had made a mistake then over a few days my ears acclimatized and I started realizing playing backs tracks i had record on the stock had a lot more detail and information, more soundstage and depth and at first what I thought was thin , became an aha oh the mid range things I have been fighting with eq ect for ever is gone and I am hearing truer flatten signal and tone,
I found the micro clock mk ii a revelation; just bringing everything into sharper focus, resolution and clarity; others disagreed but i have adam ax7's and they go up to 40k, not that my ears do , but I wondered if my monitors let me hear things that other people's monitor don't transmit ?
anyway to each their own !
ps yes to more open ect.

nuff said !
from our friend cat5:
"The pga2500 is a preamp on a chip And still intact. The op amp that amplifies its output is improved as are the signal caps (wimas in place of surface mount). Even if the sound is different it would be similar to plugging the pre into a different input (converter, tape input, etc). Believe me the mod will Not ruin unison at all. A real neve plugged into one of the line ins will sound different too. Better. Just as it would sound different to an aurora or a symphony. None of which would ruin the beauty of the neve. "

i tried, no matter how hard i push, it wont fit burr brown modern opamp/ scott lieber's killer red dot have I misunderstood is the red dot the op amp or the pre ? std pin out ? red dot is an old school API 2520 operational amplifier it goes in a pre/eq, summing buss etc circuits, its a recreation by Scot lieber, it totally affects the tone of a pre in a very colorful way, gar 2520, 1731 opamps are also great, and they are all a bit different from one another in a very useful way IME. obviously the burr browns are modern operational amps in IC form, they accel at transparency and speed, they're two different animals really.

Yeah - I was joking...The Red Dot has nothing to do with the Apollo...It would color it up, though!

I listened to the shoot out on pro tools expert.
I own the IK73 and the Waves Scheps 73. I don't own the UAD 1073.
the UAD one, on the drums sounds best. The IK I like second, the Scheps 3rd.
plugs are getting better
cheers

You know...I made a trannie joke a while back and included a humorous pic of a really ugly dude in drag. I thought I would be cute and post another funny one...then I googled trannie.
Don't google trannie.

Wow - so used it for the first time tonight as EQ only on kick, whole kit and bass...It's REALLY good. Gonna have to buy it. Dammit. Just dammit. Now UAD has me thinking of an Octo card so I can run enough instances of the 1073 during mix. And I'm ruined on the Scheps. Dammit. Or maybe just print with active instances while recording. Meh. What to do. I like to run preamps at mix time, is the thing. This software acquisition thing is starting to feel worse than hardware GAS. Makes me wanna swear, and consume more Stella. And then spend more $.

I haven't tried the IK or Scheps...and I was just fine with not having the UA version...but it's good enough to buy. Is it "better" or a "game changer"? Does it sound just like a vintage Neve? No idea...but I used it on my kick In and got to where I wanted to go in seconds. I usually spend a lot more time than that dialing the kick in.
