Lots of speculative YT videos, just look at the new mbp and think ram, cpu and I/o, those would be new mini m1x parameters. However, the Mac Mini specs historically do not always keep pace with the MBP. Apple may decide to keep it an M1 machine so that a tweaked out Mini doesn’t compete with its eventual M1 Mac Pro. All speculation of course. Meanwhile I love my M1 Mac Mini and don’t regret the purchase. The Mac Mini has been more pro than the Mac Book Pro for years despite often worse specs. The last few years, well almost a decade , I of Mac Book Pros severely throttle under load. Thinner and lighter for consumers hurts anyone who does anything they would need an powerful computer for.

I've had the 13" M1 MacBook Pro for almost a year. The fan has never come on.

Question for you guys that have one. I probably need 16gb or ram right? Also you have any suggestions for hubs? Preferably a thunderbolt one that goes from mini tbolt to break out into usb and tbolt?

Depends on the benchmark but it can beat my 2017 i7700k in some ways but not others.
1100 is pretty decent for a nice mini. Running Logic, PT, Reaper, Studio One over here pretty well. *shrugs*

I would go 16gb if you use VST instruments. I've run out of RAM on this 16g M1 mini at times, but I also think that's partly due to memory leak/cache issues with translating software that isn't meant for m1 necessarily.
Nice little machine, though. I do prefer mac os to windows at least as of late.

It would probably run circles around my 2012 i7 That's what I did, and my 2012 i7 made the decision for me earlier this year when it died. I got the 16GB and it's much more powerful than my old Mini--but that's simply based on using it and not doing any actual tests. RAM is not upgradable so going with 8GB scared me. I hesitate to strongly recommend a computer to anyone--especially new technology like the silicon chip. But it's working for me so far. I haven't read anywhere that Apple is definitely going to upgrade the Mini to a M1 Pro chip. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Maybe they're waiting to see where the chips fall with the iMac and Mac Pro. I just think that this M1 16GB hits a very affordable sweet spot for those of us that simply record and mix music without the need for multiple monitors, heavy video use or dozens of instances of sampled instruments. One of the most important things is making sure your converter is up to date with Apple Silicon. Rosetta takes care of 95% of everything else until all of the plug in companies catch up--and they will or go by the wayside. I can't remember exactly what my hub is, but yeah, you'll need one to expand on the minimal ports that the M1 has.

I get it. If you look under the hood of any major corporation it can get ugly quick. I think the NFL is evil. But I still watch the Pats! It's not just the company, which is pretty shitty in it's own ways.. It's mostly the attitudes of those who've been convinced by the marketing of that company that they're somehow superior for spending 2x-4x more for something. And then they find every way to make sure you know about it too. Hence the multitude of Mac threads in this forum. And in the mac threads its tons of echo-chamber "macs are the best!" and in the "recording computer" threads asking about what computer to get, it's "You should get a mac".. I simply aim to balance out the fanboy-ism a bit. I mean, a search for "MAC" in the title leads to 4 pages of threads. A search for "PC" leads to ZERO threads. A search for "Computer" leads to 1 page of threads where 80% are about Macs. If there isn't a new Mac thread every week on here, I'll eat my shoe. I'll eat both shoes if two consecutive threads aren't covering the exact same things as if people just want to make sure each other know they're using macs and their macs are the newest and shiniest ones.. Announcement/speculation threads about macs.. I don't see any Dell or HP announcement threads despite there being new models every year just like Macs.. Why not? Are Dell and HP not trendy enough to warrant their own announcement threads? (yes, it's a rhetorical question because we all know the answer) And yeah, I know, I know, you're used to using a Mac. You're used to using Profools. You don't want to learn a new OS or a new DAW. Last time I went to a friend's place to work on his rig, it was Mac and Cubase. Took me about 20 minutes to figure out where all the buttons and menu items were and we were off to the races.

If they don't make something I like next time around I may just build another PC like I have for decades. I have a friend that has the apple watch, phone and iPad etc. When I got the new mini I started singing a song about how much better than her I was because I got this Mac. Playing into the whole thing very tongue in cheek. Still pissed her off 🤣

But I still watch the Pats! i think what some are pushing back on is the inaccuracy apple have pushed into the market as facts. people are convinced of the stuff apple says. this thread is a point in case. if someone needs mac because their system doesnt support pc then by all means there is something to be excited about with the latest macs. but the idea mac is superior is just untrue and a few of us have been pointing that out. the idea a mac is quieter than a pc. well, thats not true either. none of my dell or windows laptops make any undue noise. i cant hear the fans ever. to the point where i had to stop using my mouse because i was recording the mouse clicks but couldnt hear fans. the only time ive ever heard laptop fan noise while recording was during rare 35deg days when a mac would have responded exactly the same because well it was bloody hot.

So - you can love Windows - that's fine...and you can spread the love, but to say people that have them have "bought into the marketing" is not cool.

Windows is fairly awful these days and just causes many problems for me. I hate paying the Apply upcharge of the same components but the OS itself seems to work. Other features make life easier as well. Meanwhile every update in windows broke something like network discovery for example, so I couldn't move remote sessions easily, requiring tedious workarounds etc. So far I'm enjoying the OS of Mac for a recording machine.
Still miss building my own computers, though, to an extent.

It makes sense that we all use the OS and platform we prefer, for me, Mac just works, still running my 2012 i7, sure, I dropped in two ssd, but basically a decade of free OS and logic updates.
I also use iPhone one major reason was the ease of capturing ideas on the iPhone and importing to logic. Essentially, zero Thunderbolt issues too.
I don’t give 2 shits about Apple marketing: just want my recording system to work, which it does.

Long time Mac user here who moved to PC fully about 2 years ago. I have had much better performance on PC (Cubase&Studio One) than i did on my mac mini or iMac. Windows 11 has unified and prettied up the GUI substantially. No issues on W11 at all so far. The truth is most people haven't had extensive experience running a DAW with both systems and if they have their "non-preffered" system experience was 10+ years ago. Much has changed and both systems have progressed a lot. Its good to have compition as it pushes the industry forward. But don't hurt the apple fans feelings .
