The Stam just sounds frickin' great. I've been fantasizing lately about having some hardware again.. ugh..

Fair enough. I own the UAD and like it. But I've been after a hardware version for a while just because all the demo's sounded different in a way I liked... just so happen that it's the hardware I like more. IMO that's not just a plugin thing, I know there's some slight discrepancies between hardware but the WA-2A sounded nothing like my Teletronix. Stam really do seem to get it on the money IMO, issue is buying anything from them is difficult at best. That is true, too. I didn't like the Heritage as much as the Neve in tests I heard, either. However both had a liveliness that the plugin didn't.

Sound quality has never been an issue with Stam. It's everything else.

Well, I personally have heard tell of a beloved AS version possibly being in the works. So I will wait for their 33609...

Josh commented earlier that there should be about 20 of these left over after they fulfill all the orders.

@johnkenn Agreed about the snappy transients. Tonally it's close but the UAD is leaving behind some weird pokeyness. It's probably the sidechain aliasing and not being able to handle the fast attack

I just did a rough mix a couple of months ago with PSP Infinistrip and PSP Oldtimer and had to use a high shelf on top. I couldn't get MJUC or anything else to do what I wanted at the time but I'm tempted to switch it back to a Fuse plug, Slick EQ GE, Molot GE and DIG IN after playing with the secondary attack and release. Using aliased plugins took me longer because I constantly had to eq the top end with a pultec type high shelf to make it not sound awful. But switching would only be for my own ego and taste. They already got the art and session drummer (only great musician in the band) approved my drum stems so what's done is done and I have to deliver not just a mix but a ddp file.

So I had been planning on using my 50% discount for the SA-67, but it looks like those are just not gonna happen, given that Tim Campbell won't be able to make the capsules anymore. So I decided to go with the SA-609 instead. I had been interested in either this or the Heritage, but I guess my decision is being made for me. It sounds like I'll have the 609 in the next few weeks or so, given that they are actively building them. I'll probably just end up picking up a TLM 67 eventually and going the Max Mod route. Either way, it'll be fun to finally own a 609, even if it's a clone.

He was kind of vague on details in the email I received. He did mention in the email that Tim was still going to be making capsules for the SA 251, so I don't think it's anything similar to what happened with the whole Heiserman thing, if that's what you were wondering about. It may just come down to Tim's workload, parts availability, etc. I was disappointed to hear about it, but the 609 was something I had my eye on anyway. I'll likely just pick up a TLM 67 and the Max Mod kit sometime next year.

I didn't really know whether to comment on this or not but now you have asked. I absolutely love the CT67 capsule I ended up making for Josh. I believe we hit upon one of the best recreations of that capsule and would still be making them but there aren't enough hours in the day. Stam as well as all my other clients suddenly decided they wanted more and more of my CT12 capsule and so I couldn't do both.I am still just a 1 person operation. I make every single capsule by myself by hand as well as clean the shop, answer emails, do bookkeeping and evaporate my own membranes. So there is nothing nefarious about my stopping. I hope I can make more of them in the future but for now I would highly recommend you at least check out the Stam SA251. It already started shipping.

I’m kind of torn, as much as I appreciate you doing it all and getting it right, I do wish you could find somebody to pass it all down to. Hell I would probably volunteer except you a quarter way around the world and it’s way to cold!

From my experience, I couldn't agree more and hope that you do make them again some day, so more people get the chance to own them. Great job on a wonderful mic!

I’m really happy with mine…I mentioned it doesn’t break up as much, but I bet you could get it to if you pushed a little harder on the front end. The real draw to this price is the analog bottom end it brings. It’s a “betterizer.”

Josh just recently told me that they are unable to make anymore 67s because Tim Campbell is no longer making capsules. I had one on order too and was told it is now no longer possible. I did switch to getting a 609 instead though.
