There is a sale on the ADK t-fet mics right now. Only at ADKmic.com Excellent deals on the entire range. I just ordered a t-fet 67 for $550. At this price I feel like I can’t loose.
Edit: appears the sale is being honored at Front End Audio as well

Really wish I could have jumped on one of the z-mods recently... I hope this mic does great things! Loved my z67.

Same, the z67 is my goal one day...but funds are tight and I’m confident the t-fet is great. I used to own the tc-67, which according to Larry was one step below the t-fet in terms of quality. At this price it’s a no brainer

There's also a sale on the 3 Zigma models. Are these the same LDC capsules as the t-fet and tube mics, just a different amp?

Larry is awesome, I’ve talked with him myself. He was so ready to help and so personable that yes, it made me want to support his company...it helps that his mics are great.

Larry is a fine fellow. I did a two mic deal with him last year (Z67 and Z251). Treated me like family. Had a cosmetic issue with one of the power supplies, and had its replacement in a most timely manner. Love both mics, but that Z67 is like a hug from your mama.

Really thinking about that CREMONA-251... and the HAMBURG-67.

Has anyone actually used the Cremona? Would it be too bright for overheads? Is it on par with the 3U warbler IV or their gz251?

This sale is back. I just caved and grabbed a Cremona-251 T. We’ll see. It’s my first impulse buy in a while.

How do the Cremona-251 and Z-251 compare in your opinion? I figured if nothing else this will be completely different than my U87ai or TLM49, which are my other non tube mics.

I figured if nothing else this will be completely different than my U87ai or TLM49, which are my other non tube mics. Its interesting...the standout mics from ADK seem to be the u67 and 251 variants. The T-fet models are supposed to mimic some of the saturation characteristics of tube mics. I think the 67-T does a better job of sounding like a tube mic than the 251-T. I don't think that necessarily matters though, if a mic sounds good it sounds good. That being said, between the z-251 and 251-T, the z-251 is a nicer sounding mic, as you would imagine. But I can eq the 251-T to sound dangerously close to the z-251. To the point where its hard to tell the difference, especially once you start applying processing/compression etc. However, if I eq both to get them to sound their best, the z-251 still comes out ahead. Also, I hear a little more clarity in the z-251, and small difference in transient response. It just reminds me that chasing sonic perfection is a game of inches. They definitely sound close, like the the z-251 is handsome older brother of the two. A quick caveat, I haven't played with the either of the 251's nearly as much as the 67-T (and the older TC-67 I used to own). I've only tried them on acoustic guitar and on my own vocals...and I'm not a singer so I'm not the best example. Also I haven't tried changing the tube out which I hear can make a significant difference. You have such a strong voice that I'm interested to hear your impressions when you really belt. I wonder how the 251-T performs under pressure.

Cool. Thanks for the descriptions. That’s what I’d expect between the Z-251 and 251-T. I really enjoyed the Z-251 clips I heard that Todd was nice enough to share with me. Heard him put it head to head with an Upton. Basically the Z-251 sounded EQed and done.
I want a FleA 251, but it’s not in the cards right now. I don’t have a ton of experience with a good 251 style mic, which makes it hard to drop that kind of money. So I’m hoping this will shed some light. I didn’t love the Advanced Audio CM251 or the BLUE Bottle Rocket II with the B0 cap. I owned both. They didn’t work on as many sources as I thought they would. Hoping this is a bit better. Loved the Korby Kat 251 on Emily.
I’ve been looking at FET and TLM mics that would be good to fill in some gaps in my locker and I saw the deal and thought why not? I’ve been chatting with Larry a bit on Facebook too, both about mics and other things. He’s a nice guy, who’s very passionate about his mics. Looking forward to spending some time with it.

Vincent, I have so many mics right now that I might let go of 1 or 2 but not sure which. I have a custom built (by JJ Audio in DC) 12/251 cross that I requested with point to point wiring, a Tim Campbell CT-12 capsule, a GE 5 star 6702 & an AMI-Tab Funkenwerk transformer. If interested PM me, Ariel

Has anyone actually used the Cremona? Would it be too bright for overheads? Is it on par with the 3U warbler IV or their gz251? This doesn't really help, but I've tried it on OH. But it was in a super crappy environment. It was an untreated basement, 7' ceilings, everything sounded like trash to begin with. The 251 sounded...um...not bad, but not good either. My ADK 67-T was more flattering in that application. But again, crappy acoustics to begin with so...

Has anyone tried the FRANKFURT-49 T? I kind of wonder how it would compare to my TLM49. Looks like it would have a much bigger low end.

Recently a long-time rep at Front End told me he’s using the newer Munich 7 on all of his own vocals. Said it’s really good. I’ve had interest in that one as well.

Your going to miss the capsule in the Neumann! I was thinking that. As you have learned at the end of the day it’s all about the capsule! The thing is often you will find the frequency response of a lesser capsule seductive at first but over time you start to notice the distortion and lack of resolution. This why most of the old hands will put resolution and lack of distortion first and realize they can just reach for EQ. It’s hard to think in these terms but when buying mics always go in thinking what can I add with outboard? What am I giving up for this tone?.
