Phill Brown's book 'Are we Still Rolling?' has some nice stories about the Helios console.

Helios pre's / EQ's really shine on Drums & Acoustic instruments! Just sounds real, for lack of a better term. Yes! I’ve been using these new 0011 modules on overheads and acoustic guitars this past week and they have the same exact vibe sonically as my vintage 0011’s. Loving it.

All the helios schematics I’ve seen have the channel cards working on single ended 24V. But there were many versions. Scratch that. I have seen a “high level line card” schematic for the more sophisticated line driver - the 7 transistor 22113 - that notes 24-36V on the supply. They made consoles/modules at both voltages. I had 4 3 band passives w/ Lustraphones and two newer 4 band modules with sowter outputs. 2 earlier Basing modules were 24v The other 2 were 32v. Sonically pretty much the same except the 32’s had more headroom and a little firmer/tighter in the low end. The later 4 band modules although not the same exact “sound” were very cool too.

Ive heard the 500 series modules, they sounded ok..mids didn't sound like the originals I had..at least to my ears. these 0011's are a different animal. one thing to consider is like the later era original modules the full sized 0011's run on 32 volts rails and have the Lustraphone transfomer clone.so basically twice the voltage as the 500. I'm wondering if the voltage making a difference is specific to the Helios cause it was designed for 32V, so splitting into two 500 series wasn't ideal sonically and they probably had to change something?
Cause if something is designed for 500 series from the start power supply in mind, like the API modules, that shouldn't be a crutch to be 500 or a gain to go to 32V, no?
Could be. But the other added thing to consider is the Lustraphone transformer vs the smaller transformer (cinemag or Jensen?) in the 500. I never compared the full sized Tony Arnold modules I had to the 500 versions.
