"But let me also speak again to our capsules. We work with several but we now have two that are ours. The capsule you hear on those videos is our main, 35mm capsule. Here is why it is superior to our competitors. First of all it is a dual back plate, dual diaphragm, capsule with FULL BLEED gold sputtered aluminized Mylar diaphragms. What is a FULL BLEED diaphragm? Our sputtered material goes all of the way to the edge of the surface not just a dot in the middle - but all of the way to the tension rings - the O rings. Additionally, our tension rings are highly polished brass and make for a better reflective surface. Also we use precisely spaced and uniquely tensioned screw placements around the the rings. We don't have separate mounting screws like you see on all made for Neuman - Gefell capsules. Neuman no longer uses brass tension rings either, they use plastic, and they use a 45% gold sputtered dot on their diaphragm Mylar. We get a more pure transduction, more accurate by far, that translates into a warmer sound when channeled or shaped I should say through our tube and Rubicon capacitors. etc.
Now then, here's our big announcement, we now also have a capsule the purest will love. We have a 34mm PVC gold sputtered aluminized dual diaphragm SINGLE back plate capsule modeled in concept on the later K style capsules in that we use brass tension rings. PVC was the first 47 diaphragm material. The earliest version of the K capsule like Thiersch still makes did not use screw attached and tensioned O rings, the diaphragms were glued on. Anyway, these capsules have that full bodied, deep but sharp PVC sound that makes any voice sound so professional. I want to keep talking here but I work all the time and never get enough done it seems. I will be back soon though. Never fear! I have not forgotten you guys. So many things I would like to address and add evidence to, to possibly break the psychic chain of thought that prevails in mic tech. We don't have to worship at the alter! Or bow down to the masters!"
Tommy I am in awe of your technical expertise. I learn something new here every day. That's what keeps me coming back

Thank you sooo much, Tim! I don't know a lot about everything or every kind of mic. But I try to see the little man behind the curtain, and the slight of hand bs in manufacturing that allows the big mic companies to charge exorbitant dollars for it.
Here's the latest: fake Telfunken (Telefunken Electrokaustic) is doing a limited re-release of the U47. Is anybody clapping? Don't and definitely don't spend 10k on one. More will be revealed in future posts as to why.
And to the gentleman who earlier said that Neuman, and Senheiser should be considered as two of the big three along side of Shure. Sir, unfortunately Senheiser is Neuman these days. From that I understand you didn't actually read my post. They acquired Neuman years ago and thus the further disintegration of the line that started, if you ask me, when they started using plastic tension rings instead of brass via the Gefell capsules. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we use highly polished brass tension rings on our Weird 47 capsule. Senheiser and Shure have been the leaders in live dynamic mics forever I guess, but have never had the reputation for high quality boutique recording studio mics like Blue, Neuman, and Telefunken. You could have thrown in Royer or Bayerdynamic for ribbon mics. And those of you who just "know" that Neuman's are being made in Germany these days I have some land in the Atchafalaya Basin area of Louisiana to sell you. I will say that Shure finally has something to offer studios. I love what the Black Panthers did here in Austin at Arlan's with a Shure. Check out the Youtube video. I can't remember what Sublime used there but I think it was Shure. Will have to ask John Blondell. For the record, he is the guy that did the studio bass tracks, and of course any horn work on the album. You guys would be surprised to learn how many hit albums came out of that studio. They really have an amazing discography (and the Frankenstein board! A marriage between Neve and SSL! a million dollar mess at first!) Maybe not equal to the Plant in LA, but probably more diverse. God bless both of those fabulous locations though. Love em both. Got to visit the Plant again when I was in LA for NAAM. Was really awesome - had been many years. And then there was seeing Capital Records again, where I cut my teeth, but that is a story for another day.

Tommy you should consider presenting something at AES. If not I'm sure I'll run into you at NAMM if it ever happens again.

Once, I accidentally wandered into a Capitol Records Session (I was trying to find the Men's Room)...
Fortunately the Red Light was off. (whew!) Otherwise it might have easily been a Capitol Offence. Chris

I, for one, applaud Tommy’s transparency. I mean, sure, many mic makers will publish self noise specs and frequency response charts, but how many will publish their bench press and shoulder shrug stats?

Tommy, thank you for standing up for the little guy! I’m a little confused why the little guy should get the weird vs the Alctron? Seems pretty similar, or.. I’m sure you have a tear down pictures of both, so can you share it with us?
Alctron CS95
CS95 is a kind of high quality tube condenser microphone. Its low self noise and low distortion offer a charming sound. The return of the 32mm dual gold diaphragm capsule and built-in 12AX7B vacuum tube make the sound warmth, clarity and natural. The output transformer uses a special winding to minimize low-frequency distortion and shock mount effectively reduce handling noise. Aluminum shell and NO.304 stainless mesh which makes microphone stable and durable.
looks like they have a similar description of your 47 too, 34mm gold diaphragm.. Much cheaper than yours! And the pictures of the bundle even have the same budget looking coiled cables.
unless you can prove otherwise, I’m going to assume you don’t care THAT much about the little guy. If you did, wouldn’t you at least hire a kid from the local high school metal shop to make some mic bodies? Or hire some indie maker of capsules to make them to spec for you? Seems like you might have gotten conned by Chinese influence.. I’m sorry man. It happens in every industry.

Tommy. Serious question. Will you also buy back the Alctron version for twice the price in 10 years or is that only for the Weird Audio branded version? Unrelated, do you sell the Weird Audio badges separately? I don't like anything uncertain or vague in my investment portfolio so I need to get this squared away ASAP k thx.
