My now "resident" BU67 is a vocal Soulmate. Pre upgrade? Hmm... Anywhere from Useful Arts Hornet to the new Neve Interface. (Depends how rest of year goes) * Chris *Slumming it with Scarlett 3rd Gen and UA Volt, in the meantime. LOL!

Chandler REDD Mic with the built in mic pre. And both portions are world class. Not bad for the price of just a high end microphone.

Due to tubes being tubes, for me, it would have to be a solid state mic - probably U87 - and a Neve 1084 mic pre.

Not a BUL-S? (Silver Bullet is on the "prosperity wish list" BTW!) Chris

JCF Latte and a Soyuz 017. Hmm... Are there sufficient grounds đŸ˜‰ for that statement? Chris

Neumann U47 and Neve 1073.

U87 and APA Juggernaut. Hard to beat for flexibility.

Not a BUL-S? (Silver Bullet is on the "prosperity wish list" BTW!) Chris You mean a B-ULS? (Hypens Matter Chris! You above all should know that!!) Crap! I had forgotten about the B-ULS. They make great digging tools. Might be useful on a desert island. I'll have to reconsider, cause my original U87 isn't getting anywhere near dirt..... And yeah, if it qualifies as (1) single mic pre, the Silver Bullet, N into A mode would be on that 1/1 list for me.

I really do need to zip it until I've taken the time to properly explore something. Many said it but life dictates and one has to sell but I do miss the Shelford channel. Now, I doubt many go from a $4K channel strip to an audio interface preamp / EQ so does it make a difference? It's not even funny.
The Shelford with any mic (good) cheap or expensive in short sounded like me for better or worse. It's invisible wire that that spews out what's put in, the interface amps I've been using sounds like band restricted dark murky shadows of its former self. There must be something inbetween a bank breaking RND device and I need to find out exactly what that is but IMO you're not going to do better than RND + any half decent mic.

I think I would be okay using my Gefell UM70 and one of my IAA QP5s.

For vox and acoustic: M49 and a 31102/1084
I find the M49 to be the most versatile of all the Neumann big boys.

Forgot to mention how much I agreed with this. My desert island would not be the same without one.

SNIP I find the M49 to be the most versatile of all the Neumann big boys. THIS IS THE BOLDEST STATEMENT IN THIS THREAD… so far!

I have a sinking suspicion, the Lauten Atlantis would be legendary for a dessert island. Which reminds me of a story, way down below the ocean. Involving a sweet Tart. Chris

One of those might buy you the whole island nowadays..

I mean, how do you not pick a vintage 1073? Just spitballing here: You listen to it first and then realize that like tape, it carries its reputation on the shoulders of those who worked hard on arrangements and performance in well written songs?

I keep this one in my Go-Bag in case I have to run for the fallout shelter.

I'd be happy to go with a U87 and a vintage 1073 and I promise I'd work to create arrangements matched by performance in the service of well-written songs! (But... I'm happy carrying on with a Roswell k87 and a CL7602...)

My favourite pairing U47 > Coil Audio CA-70s.
But if it was a case of one pre one mic only to make an entire album "mmmmh" tricky.
I guess it would have to be original U87 > original ISA 110.

Is that Blue Bottle kinda thing, a bit of a cheat then?
RIP Blue. IMHO some of them were very cool... Chris

I've only got two mics and two of the same preamps. Hardly record. Mostly mastering or doing FOH.
Gefell m930ts Beyerdynamic m88
AML ez1081 stereo pair
