I should add the support from the store I got it from, has been above reproach to this point, fast and empathic ..

And it will make the sound with nothing connected to any input? I know you are just trying to help, but honesty atm I am over it. (it has to have something connected to it, monitors, otherwise you can't hear it....8)...)

My Apollo x8 which I purchased in Feb, is off for repair. It would develop a noise on a line input ,that sounds an awful lot like a condenser microphone that has moisture on the capsule. It was intermittent. In the end after much going round and round with UA support, which is kinda frustrating due to the delay between getting asked a question, answering it, then waiting for a response, all via email.. it took a couple of weeks to get to the point where they told me I have to send it back to the store I got it from. Now it has to go to the store, they want to check it,then to the distributor for repair......why don't they give you all the trouble shooting stuff in one bloody go, you do it, they decide, why does it have to go round and round and round. I asked for a replacement off the bat, and can't get one. I hate that. I should be able to get a loan unit. In fact under Australian law, you are entitled to a replacement if the unit doesn't perform as intended..which is clearly the case. Now I am dead in the water , and I bet London to a brick, it comes back with the same intermittent issue. I have provided extremely detailed information about the fault, including a video of the issue, I still reckon I will get the same faulty unit back.. lets see. The issue, is always on a line input.. .and can be cleared, by a number of means. Selecting MIC/Line in the Console app, and going back again to LINE. Unpluggin any physical Line input or output and replugging it in, including the headphone outs. It never happens on a MIC input. Whilst the noise was happening, I disconnected the x8 from the iMac, and the satellite, and the noise persisted. To me, it was an obvious hardware issue from the start, but you have to go through 2 weeks of run around... its extremely frustrating. So lets see what happens. Not real happy at the moment, this is the first audio interface I have had, and I have had many that has had a fault, and its only 10 months old. It is by far the most expensive interface I have purchase, and I expected better. Here is the video of the noise Apollo noise on input

Please don't think I'm trying to take anything away from this thread. Knowing Donr, I'm sure he will appreciate this addition to the list. My vote for most underrated guitar solos. Jack Daniels is a forgotten Nashville guitarist but the man had as excellent timing and feel as anyone I've ever heard. This solo gave me chills the first time I heard it and every time since. Jack lived up to his name. Struggled with addiction most of his life. But lawd, what a guitar man. Wow, I had totally forgotten about that band but remembered seeing one of their albums in my parents record collection when I was a kid. I just looked it up and turns out my uncle had a cut on one of their records. Thats a cover of a dire straits song off the first album... for those that didn't know... cheers Wiz

I have made my living from music for over 25 years full time and 10 part time before that. As a live musician mostly with session work a smaller part of that.
It’s always been the largest earner for me...live gigs

I am not looking for sympathy... but I felt it would be good for me to share this....as I share good things about my music....and honestly I need to get it off my chest. The last album i released , was number 7. I have a pretty good profile in the area I live in...well known...respected. Now I am in regional Australia...so don’t think star,...think local muso... Album sales have been slowly going south....over the last few years. For this album I got more “exposure” than any previous. lots of radio...print etc. My locals sales in shop this time around...... wait for it... 2. that is not a typo. that is between July to now. 2. it’s humiliating. a few years back that would be hundreds locally. 2. I have sold some online and a few in person. I couldn’t buy a round of beers for you guys with the proceeds....and I do everything myself and apart from time doing it I have no overheads. Now I know what a lot of you are going to say.....CD sales blah blah...touring blah blah.... I just need to share it or I am gonna slump..... You guys are my peers and will understand the struggle....sure tomorrow I will dust myself off and go back to the studio.... F;::k I make more money playing poker.... I can feel this but your sales are not you - as a person. Having the talent to write songs, to express feelings. This alone is a thing which I am thankful for. Friends sit from 9 to 5 in an office, sure they make money, but are they happy. IMO many change livetime for money and they suffer from depression. Is there a way to make money from streams. Yes, is it essy...no. Everyone wants to licence to film now its the only way to make solid income. But things are a bit different EU vs USA. I hope things will clear up for you. A virtual hug to you..🤗 Btw. My CD yet did not arrive. Thnks PM Sent about CD (USPS slow) cheers Wiz

Years ago, I was at a bar in my hometown having a drink with friends. There was a band playing, young kids. They were decent. I went up during their break to tell them that I dug their sound. They proceeded to tell me that they knew me and watched me play in bands when they were younger, and inspired them to play in a band. Made my day. For me, if I can inspire something, anything, in one person with a song, then it's worth it. I mean, you can't pay your bills with inspiration, but I never tried to go down that road. For what it's worth, wiz , you inspired me countless times. I have been meaning to buy your record. Time is a relentless beast right now. If I buy your record, can you just send me some wav files? No need to ship me a CD halfway across the globe. I don't think I have a CD player anymore. Thanks for the compliment.. of course, pm me... cheers Wiz

In some ways I knew this was coming, and I guess subconsciously why I dumped so much gear and changed the setup ... get while the going is good sort of thing.

Depends on the customers expectations.
I worked in the shallow end of the talent gene pool.... fixed price, 1 set of revisions was the deal. Studio time was changed at $50 dollars per hour 4 hrs minimum for tracking.
No way they would have gone with anything that was open ended... and I can understand that....
We had pretty good discussions before hand though.
so something like "if you can nail all your performance stuff inside 4hrs, then you leave and I get you back the next day (or send you) to listen and make any changes you want to the mix then $400 will cover it at most.
Usually I then came in at $300, which they always loved... and always when the turned up I had water, snacks....biscuits, donuts etc laid out...
I tell you that $10 bucks I spent on snacks, was the best advertising I ever did... they would walk passed Neumann mics and V72 preamps and go "oooooh donuts".
Cheers

I turned off the room emulation on my axe3 because it didn't sound right either. I generally do a small ambient reverb or a small and quick slap delay and that works well enough in a mix. One more thing is eq. I could never get reverbs to sound right until I started eqing them. Cut the lows and highs a lot more than you think you need and then usually a couple cuts at the note harmonics. Yes filter verbs. Try 300 high pass and 3 k low pass on something to hear how it works

well after 3-4 days of messing with it...I am going to return it.
I love the sound. Don't get me wrong, it plays and sounds absolutely killer... if I were a better player, it would be a no brainer...and if you are a good keys player and are looking for something like this I highly recommend it.
Why am I returning it.
Its midi implementation.
It can't do what I need it to do. I have spent tens of hours trying to work out a way to get it to work how I need it.
I will for the moment, continue with my present controller and logics Vintage organ. Which is easy to implement the way I wish to work.
So, there you go
cheers

Well I spent another day with it.
I really worked on logics internal vintage organ vs this thing,
Look, its not night and day.... and probably comes down to workflow and preference of sound. But I will be keeping this little thing.
I record my organ pass, then overdub the speaker speed and pretty much done. Use a little 610A from Uaudio, notch out 160Hz, and use Logics direction mixer to narrow the stereo field a bit and done.
My fav setting is Hammond.. and first four drawbars all the way down (though not sure 16' is doing much) no chorus, no percussion, touch of its verb
cheers

Johnkenn OK I have spent a day playing with it. Kinda looks cool.. kinda looks like a toy. Keybed is fine. Keep in mind I am not a keyboard players left butt cheek. Its well laid out and functions great. It also has inbuilt speakers (defeatable) and can be battery powered. I have only run it on mains. The organ sound is really really good. The Hammond I mean. The others I am not sure I will ever use. Draw bars are notched, which is a bonus over continuous ones on my other keyboard controller. The rotary speed switch is good and it has a notched octave slider on the face which is cool as well. The reverb sounds nice, and the distortion is .. well distortion. Now you guys know the sort of music I do, and I am comparing this to LOGICs Vintage organ. I used to own Native instruments B4 and B4II.... no one has ever done better than the original NI B4 plug in...it was great. The Reface YC cost me 550 AUD (370ish USD I guess) so price of an expensive plug in. I have it connected to LOGIC Via USB. and using the External Instrument plug in within logic.. I can record midi from the YC, monitor its sound, and then play back and add things like CC info. Modulation CC1 controls the Rotary Speed, with the following values. 0 = OFF, 42 +STOP, 85= SLOW, and 127 = FAST. that will save you working it out. it can also turn on and off MIDI CONTROL and LOCAL CONTROL.. consult the manual.. it consists of powering on the YC with certain keys held down... eg turn on with C2 Held down disables the internal speakers. The internal speakers sound fine, and would be fun to jam with an acoustic guitar next to you. It has an external foot switch which I think is for a volume pedal.... Will I keep it? It really does the hammond thing very very well. Its compact enough to sit between my iMac and keyboard infront of me. I think it sounds better at what it does than VINTAGE ORGAN in logic..but that's really context dependent. I just want a good, easy to use organ sound, that I can play basic stuff on, and have the ability to overdub the rotary speed,as I really can't manage anything fancy as a player. I have 30 days to return it so I will keep using it and see how it goes. Today, I played it in a few songs... and I like the sound. I wonder if the CP version is as good.... Honestly though..if say their new YC61 keyboard they have out, has these sounds in it...and the sounds of the CP (Assuming its to electric pianos what this is to B3) as well, and the other sounds are good.... it might be better plonking down my hard earned for that... as the YC and CP would add up to 1100 AUD, I think the YC is about 3 grand. Dunno ... more research. Cheers Wiz
