I'd go for Spitefire if I add anything new. They're coming out with new flavors pretty regularly. I'm still using the Albion 1 (old one) by triggering textures and diff sections with the guitar, for inspiration or laying down MIDI patterns to manipulate later.

If the OP is building his own gear, he's probably looking for more than a basic interface. I agree about gear generally moving up in quality from what it used to be. The 22 MTK doesn't disappoint. I was considering a modded Delta before I bought the 22 MTK. After using it for a while, I haven't given it a second thought. The Ghost Preamps are great everyday Pres. They sound good with everything I've thrown at them. Nothing holding you back from using outboard gear either... The Sapphire EQ is fantastic. Different designers did the Signature series. In my book, it's not your daddy's SC. It doesn't outperform everything on the planet, but it doesn't need to & doesn't hold me back either. I never went down the road of grabbing every hyped piece of gear out there. I adequately used what I had with any work-arounds needed. To me, it's about the sound, not the specs necessarily. The music has to work and the gear has to be decent, at the very least. I never got caught up in replacing gear because it was all the rage by consensus. Just make what you have work, as long as it SOUNDS good. This is definitely a winner Home/Project Studios. I'm not interested in producing for or pleasing anyone else, except listeners. I enjoy what I hear from it... But I could deliver a good competitive product to someone if I had to; no doubt. I appreciate Customer support on new software. I've never needed to ship any hardware out for service - doubt that I ever would do that anyway... If I can't fix it, I don't need it. If repairs are needed, it would get my modifications probably. Samsung has acquired Harman: news.harman.com/releases/samsung-electronics-to-acquire-harman-accelerating-growth-in-automotive-and-connected-technologiesIf Behringer has something that works, I'll use it, though I don't own any... I said it before: If it work, it works... be happy & use it. If it's frowned upon, but still works, don't let anybody around here know about it... lol

Yeah, I'm happy with it. You're contradicting yourself, ericn. Your advice is to get a basic interface and throw some money at making that work or try/buy competing products to find what you want... Buy a basic interface, just not this desk with more features... lol... nice. A lot of reverse hype in your posts.

Well, the OP could take his $2.5k budget and get nearly the same setup as the 22 MTK ($800), with an added benefit or two. Most people who have heard or used this new Soundcraft board have been impressed with the bang for buck. I've conversed with one of the engineers from the Signature project who says if he could have taken anything from that project, it would have been the 22 MTK, and I know what he means now. After I bought it, my Sweetwater Rep said he was impressed with it; which he didn't hear it before I bought it, but after I commented on it he gave it a whirl. I, as a user would absolutely buy it again if I needed to. Most owners love the quality and price to performance ratio and would buy it again... Yeah, I would have paid more, for more on this desk and 32 channels instead of 22/24, but it is what it is and delivers what it delivers from Harman's expertise. Soundcraft delivered on this board, IMO. Any great engineer could make music with it. Of the features that are there, nothing is lacking. These 16 Ghost Preamps are great. The Sapphire EQ is great (4 band with two sweepable mids). The DBX limiters are great. The dual engine Lexicon FX are great. The GB routing is great. All from previous SC Consoles, hence the "signature" name. This ain't a Mackie mixer. Nothing else out there delivers these features for 800 bucks... I've looked. If I do sound design, I use a 192k setup. To me, 24/48k is fine for everyday use. If you can't make competitive music on this desk, the desk is not what's holding you back. The 22 MTK is my everyday rig now. I can track all of the features on this console at 192k into another system and mix that in the box for vid or whatever, with a control surface. The sound is inspirational. There is nothing holding me back here. I've written, arranged, and rehearsed nearly 2 albums worth of material on this desk in the 10 months I've used the 22 MTK. I've put the last 2 albums on hold, because this desk's inspirational sound has made way for the new stuff. IMO, there are no "album filler" material in the bunch. ericn, you didn't give the OP any recommendations after you knocked an "all in one" rig. I'm confident the OP would be satisfied with the 22 MTK. I think he may find he rarely uses his outboard gear, but rather uses it because he has it. For a live setup, this is a no brainer. Haul all of the outboard gear around if you want to... I'm too old to deal with the mess. My 2 ton Fender Amp will stay put.

If you pick up a board like the Soundcraft does one still need an interface or is that, more or less, built in? Likewise, does a board, when added to an interface, add anything more than physical sliders and knobs? Thanks again and sorry for the newbiness of this Cheers Mac The Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK does 24 channels in & 22 out via discrete channels over USB... I explain it a little more in this thread: realgearonline.com/thread/6621/soundcraft-mtk-22EDIT: BTW, it's a Hybrid Console. You can use it as an interface in the Studio or as an analog standalone Live Mixer. You can send your VST/VSTi's out the mains during a live show, or route them for recording... or both.

I was contemplating getting another monitor. I just grabbed a 40 inch TV for cheaper than a 27" - 32" monitor. Color is just fine, especially since I won't be doing vid color grading on it... el perfecto for audio apps.

I don't see how the lawsuit would have much affect on the streaming side. More like, it'll take away the overall stranglehold these companies have. Maybe a copyright lawyer needs to unite with Nader to expand the scope of the suit... A nice scenario: while Nader hits 'em head-on, somebody else needs to T-bone 'em from a side street, while someone else rear-ends 'em... it's now or never maybe. Extreme organization is needed right now on this front!

I'd suggest trying Reaper before going with Cubase. It's lean and mean. I use it on a humongous catchall "noodling" project for writing and arranging new ideas. Tons of plugins, tracking 5 Vox, 2 Guitars triggering 5 Synths (incl. Kontkt loaded up). The project folder is over 41 GB, all on a 3.3 GHz Core 2 Duo with 8 GB RAM. I have a web browser, Email Client open plus several other programs running at the same time. Reaper does Scoring and Video. The installation file is 10.5 MB.... it just works.

Dear "B1", I was hoping that you might be still be willing to share your orchestral template. I tried to download the file you'd offered, but the file is no longer available. I also use Reaper as a DAW, with Kontakt, Albion One Spitfire... My email address is: keith@keithhaydon.com, if you're willing to email it. OR, of course you can re-post it at Reaper.fm Peace, K8ch www.reverbnation.com/keithhaydonI just happens that I still have it. I might have checked that out a while back but I don't remember anything about it. Credit goes to "darthmorphling". You can download it here: Reaper Orch. Template

The point was, you might find something decent at the Shack at closeout prices (regular retail price), but much of it was junk (certainly at inflated prices). Breadboards were probably a bargain. Electronics, not so much. Maybe that will help someone, or not...

Radio Shack closed here a couple of years ago. I picked up a couple of hundred dollars of stuff. Some of it was a waste of money... a DVM won't properly read capacitance. Best find was Digital Calipers and DeoxIT Gold G5... all of the stuff was marked down to what would be regular price anywhere else... good riddance Radio Shack shysters.

I thought those pres were sapphire range? Can anyone help me out on this? The Pres are Ghost. The EQ is Sapphire. Named after the older consoles... thus the "Signature" reference: Soundcraft Signature.

I would've paid double for 96k too. But, to be honest, since I've been using it, it's never entered my mind to wish it was 96k capable. I have other ways to get up to 192k if I really need it. However, there are some options. If you need to do sound design with higher resolution or tracking/summing at higher rates, and have another interface or AD convertors, you can send all of the nice Signature features out the mains and print with the highest resolution you have ability to convert to... I can't praise enough the Ghost Pre-amps, DBX Limiters, Sapphire EQ (4 band with 2 sweepable Mids), GB routing, dual engine Lexicon FX with 2 returns, 100mm Faders, 22 dedicated Multi-track channels, 5 Auxes, 4 Groups, solid construction, plus more.
The convertors in the MTKs are the same as the first Gen Si and the earlier Flagship Tour Console, Vi1. Never heard anybody complain about the conversion... certainly not me.

I just wanted to let you all know that I think those two mics work good. The Samson sounds very good on my voice and I liked it two times over my UMT 70 or my TLM 102. Anyway I decide from case to case. If a cheap microphone works- why not. BTW I am ordering at 3U next week. I say, use it and be happy. If it works, it works... period. Why does there need to be a gear shoot out with every option/opinion. Nobody is ever working under the same conditions with the same voicings and environment. I've got a Warbler or two on my list, but I'm quite content using a cheap(-er) Shure Dynamic. It just works with my voice... go figure.

I bought the 22MTK last year (pre-ordered)... I love it and would absolutely buy it again. The price to performance ratio is fantastic! The Ghost pre-amps, limiters, EQ are all great with very usable FX. If 48k is a limitation to you, the non-Multitrack version does 96k for 2 channels. This is basically a live console that most of us happy users are using in the studio... a winner in my book for $800.00.

Let's take a look at this scam system... it's corrupt from the bottom to the top. A TRUE liberal is generous with their own goods and services (not with-holding business profit but leaving room for personal decisions of charity - NOT dictated by others).
A socialist (commie) is generous with the goods and services of others (while enriching themselves and cutting others off at the pass; from interfering in the power scheme - same for business & gov.).
No one who isn't embedded in this current system will ever have a voice to LEGALLY determine their own destiny. The rigging of the law to collectively ham-string intellectual property in this venue has determined that. The commie in the seats have done your/our collective bargaining for you/us. It's fine for those who turn a blind eye to what they are in bed with, as they prosper in it. However, it will bite the millions who had their voices/rights taken away, by design.
I'm telling you boys, unless you jettison this scam out of your life and work together to build something better, you'll be spinning your wheels in the ditch. No one will pull you out. Sony has an angle in this campaign, just as Google had in their earlier campaigns to get the public behind them when it served their interests... not so much when the outcome was less beneficial to them. So maybe Sony can bump up they rate they pay out to some insignificant level while cutting their competition out.
Use of anti-trust laws against the likes of Google & Amazon is a better endeavor at this point in time... class action suit? Once these companies are reaching success in domination of multiple platforms, you are talking to a beast without ears. They only thing they hear is how their bottom line is affected. Hurt their pocket book and they listen better. Break them up and they are easier to manage by smaller number of patrons.
And the beat goes on... Who is your partner in this? It's certainly not your friend.
