2600 is a good price. Stereo AMS units go for 8K. This is a real Neve. Can't imagine why the buyer backed out really.

Ha, Martin John Butler turns out I like lots of dynamic and loud vocals. Doesn't sound bad but not quite as polished as I'd normally mix. Here's the morning after mix for reference. db.tt/LkXv9kCX

A little beer can help, it or any drug can make you take risks you normally wouldn't , but you have to know the point where it gets in the way. This from the guy who lives ion a constant 50 Mics of Fentynol per hour . I like this post. All above are good as well. I think moderation here is key. No way anyone can do anything as well sloshed. However, a couple to take the edge off seems to help me. I should also add that I don't drink often. Hardly ever actually. But a couple every once in awhile to keep me honest doesn't hurt

At least it seems like I mix better. Or could it be the old bar band effect I had in college? I played in the house band at Austin City Saloon in Lexington in the early 90's. Free drinks to the band and I took good advantage. Never played better in my life than on that stage. Or so I thought until I heard a few board recordings later lol.
But seriously, I honestly think I DO mix better when I unwind a bit and I just don't care so much. I'm just enjoying the music while I mix instead of fussing over every mix decision. If it sounds good, it is good, right?
What says the brethren??

Your right. I don't think anyone makes it back with music. Ever. Music is free. But the equity is in the unit itself. They never or will ever go down in price. Always up as the clock tics. I've never lost a nickel on vintage gear but I have made money with it. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but there is still money to be made in music. Every form of media still pays the same as it always has, ie, performance royalties for radio, TV and film. There are still hundreds of thousands and even millions available in performance royalties if you have a hit song. The only thing that has been devastated is the mechanicals - the sales of physical copies. That has mostly affected the publishing industry, as there is no money in album cuts. They are much less willing to invest in a writer's career because there are less opportunities for them to recoup. You're right of coarse. My sweeping statement of "no money" should have been clarified. When I think of making money on music, my mind goes back to the days of Alan Jackson selling a zillion albums and everyone who had a hand in the record making a lot of money. Because people actually BOUGHT it. A physical thing (the record). So the selling of physical copies is what I should have said.

From those that prefer it in situations, my understanding is that the 1081 circuit is leaner than the 1084 or 1073, which makes it better for certain types of vocals (pop, R&B) and potentially less enhancing for others. Yeah the 1081's I had where lush. Sounds like a halo is placed around the signal. Hard to explain but recognizable when you hear it. Never heard anything close to it in a class A circuit.

I can think of a lot of things that I would spend $4,500.00+ on that would do a lot more to my mixes than one preamp. That being said, everybody has their own gear love. So, if you've got the jones go for it! Edit: I didn't see that the last one closed at $2400. Now were talking. Will be fun to see the final price. I wonder how you can make a profit spending that much on gear. Pharrel Williams made $2400 on 8 million downloads of his hit "Happy". Seems if you do spend that much it's a gamble you might not make it all back. Your right. I don't think anyone makes it back with music. Ever. Music is free. But the equity is in the unit itself. They never or will ever go down in price. Always up as the clock tics. I've never lost a nickel on vintage gear but I have made money with it.

I'll be interested to know your thoughts after using it awhile. I kept mine 3 or 4 months. They sound great but I decided I didn't need it in the end.

A couple of thoughts. 1. Your voice is pure americana. Love it. It borders on the "about to fall apart at any moment" with a compelling tone and emotive quality. 2. The WA76 adds a beautiful yet almost transparent weight to almost every source. 3. Bryce is the man!! warmaudio I love his voice too. So raw and emotive. One of the best songwriters I've known as well. A true artist.

man, just get someone to build you an AML ez1073 for like $1300. ask @danderloo how good they sound. I've built them, they're badass. I've owned one and sold it. The AML sounds nothing like a 1081. Which I have also owned and sold, sadly.

Surely not for a mono unit. I figure around 3500 maybe?

Drinking and posting is OK. It can be quite entertaining for the rest of us. I would strongly advise against drinking and driving though. So I'm laying in bed last night. First night I've been in bed before 11 in forever (true). And I get a text... "What up"? lol Gotta love him.

As some of us are D.I.Y.ers, besides the clock upgrade, What's so hard about replacing some I.C.s and upgrading some caps? knowing which ones to do? and knowing what to replace them with 8) cheers Wiz Someone like Tony or Cat5 could figure that out by looking at a picture of the layouts in minutes. Comparing stock to BLAs mod that is.

Yeah I agree. Tone and I talked about this ... Its a little disappointing, that this much gains are to be found by mods by BLA. Its something that (with the exception of the clock) could have easily and one would think, cheaply, be implemented during manufacturer... cheers Wiz ya think maybe BLA was a bit surprised by the diff? I've never seen them release comparison files to use in their marketing, and even with their plea to "use good monitoring to listen to this" disclaimer, i think you WOULD hear those diffs on an iphone speaker haha. I did hear the difference on an I phone! That said, couldn't someone take a quality outboard eq and get to the same end? All I'm hearing is a tighter bottom and mids. That can be done with eq, no? The question is for everyone btw.

Thanks for the replies guys. This sub is a powered floor model that I had on an entertainment system in another house. It does have a crossover yes.
Forgot to mention I've also got a switch witch that I'd like to incorporate so I can flip it on and off.
So let me walk through this on my head. If I come out of the console (main outs) into the switch witch. Then powered monitors on SW channel 1. I can then hook the sub up on SW channel 2 and it should work right?
Here's another question. The sub inputs are RCA. So I'd need an adapter from xlr to RCA right?
Thanks again.

Yeah that wear out or "baked" sound can't be built. Not that I've found anyway. Some things get better with age. Great gear is one of them. Eric is another

So I've got a pretty good MTX sub that I've never hooked up. Quite honesty, I don't know how to hook it up. Any recommendations on how do do this would be appreciated. The way I've got things now is I run monitor outs from the Apollo to a couple channels on the console. Then I've got the Ross Martin dac going to a couple of channels. I can switch them on the fly in the daw. And when I mix, I have all my channels running to a console strip.
So I guess I'd need to figure out a way to run the sub off the console outs, no?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Used nothing but the Slate stuff on this recording here. Tracked it today (rain day). I find it all to be very hot and distortion"ish". I was used to tracking with hotter inputs on the pres. Couldn't find a setting on most of this Slate stuff where I couldn't hear distortion. This is an old tune BTW. Not mine. Messing around.

I think this is a great deal - the monthly rental I mean. If you want to check out the line for a long term demo to see if you want to buy it. Personally, I have a love/.hate thing with his plugs. Use them a lot at first, and then they give me a bad taste in my mouth after awhile. Used the VCC for awhile, then I abandoned it. (Happily) Using the FG-X and I've just about had it with that one as well. Used others at other studios and could take or leave em. BUT, I'd like to try the Relab 480, so I might do a month rental/demo to see how that plays out... You've got to hand it to Stephen though....he really knows how to hammer down in marketing mode though, eh? heh heh I tried the mixing plugins for the first time this morning. I'm really impressed. They sound good. Think I might be going this route for awhile. At least the 2 free months
