Howdy yall,
Any thoughts on great sounding 6x9 car speakers? Two or three-way.
Restoring my old 1967 Chrysler and would like to install some in the rear deck, powered by some sort of Bluetooth amp. That way I can play music from my iPhone.
The car still has its original AM radio with 4x10 in the dash.

We have a pair of Sennheiser MKH. Those things sure are honest.

I’ll use a KM84 on a vocal any day of the week. Nothing that mic can’t do.

CL1B is a very nice compressor, especially if you put NOS tubes in it.
$6k?
A person can ask whatever they want. Doesn't mean they'll get it.

The API 550A is pretty amazing on percussion.

It’s in cardioid.
However, it is switched to omni for the upright bass.

Chase, it’s a short body, Tele badged, from 1961. Completely original inside with K47 brass ring capsule. Bought it from Klaus Heyne.
Klaus bought it in Cologne, Germany in 1983, and it lived tucked away in a box until a few months ago.
Grace preamp was set to 30dB of gain.

Sorry...
Sorry...
Sorry...
...but I can't explain what this mic does for me. It makes me want to practice. It inspires me. It gives suggestions. Nothing else I've ever used can do what it does.
There are two KM84s about 10 feet in front and spaced about ten feet apart just to give a bit of stereo ambience. Bass was overdubbed with the 47. Grace preamps. But the heavy lifting is all the 47.
Man, it's taken years to finally get here. The hard work and waiting was worth it.
Merry Christmas, all.

Burbon ain't my first, second, or even third choice. I shall be enjoying Cragganmore today. Burbon isnt my first choice either. Bourbon on the other hand... I do like an occasional scotch as well. HA!...Never liked it enough to learn how to spell it.

I love AKG K701s for most everything including tracking. But sometimes more isolation is needed.
Which closed back headphones sound most like the K701s? (I realize that physics dictates it’s not entirely possible, but help me out here!)

We needed to use it for a studio video-shoot. Better to space out and physically distance.
It is a beautiful space.
I worked in the API room back in 2012 and so many things didn't work.

Echo's is a Neve 8068. I asked Geoff Tanner about why it sounded mushy and lo-fi. He's never worked on it, but he had a few ideas ranging from caps to buss things....all above my knowledge grade.
You just never know how places are wired and maintained. Could be something simple like an impedance mismatch somewhere.
At any rate, if we work over there again I won't be using the console. We'll bring our own if we need to.
I've built 1073 clones and have liked them. We have a Vintech at school. Sampled original 1073s at Sony in Nashville that sounded magnificant.

After living with the tracks for a few days, I'm thinking the SM69 might not have been the issue. Rather, everything that went through the Neve 8068 came out sounding slow, mushy, and lacking detail. Call me crazy, but I guess I just don't like the Neve. That makes sense. I have a wonderful stereo tube pre built by this guy named Dan that is truly wonderful on so many sources! HA! Wait until the NEXT preamp!

I will also say that the lead vocal through the Neve console and Fairchild 670 was just too mid-forward. It certainly works fine, but I tend to like my 47 on vocals through a clean preamp.

It was tube version. It's totally useable and not bad, just not what I was expecting. It was too slow. Less defined. Mushy.
I dunno which pre Ben was running it through. That might have contributed.

We had a big ol' session yesterday over at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC. This single includes a whole video documentary and we needed the extra space to spread out and physically distance. Included ETSU alumni Becky Buller and Tim Stafford on this recording as they co-wrote the song. Tracked totally live and quite ambient. Instruments/MicsBass - U47 (Stuck up a KM84 at the figerboard, but didn't use it in the mix.) Guitar (Tim's 1934 D-18) - Two KM84s (Had an M49 on the bridge, but it malfunctioned before the session started.) Mandolin - KM84 Dobro - SM69 Banjo - Two U87s Fiddle - Bumblebee Pro RM-6 Blumlein pair Lead vocal - My U47 and Fairchild 670 Baritone vocal (me) - Ela M251 Female vocal - C12 I don't recall which preamps my colleague used, other than vocals were through their Neve console and bass through API. Guitar and fiddle might have been through GML. A few observations after getting the tracks home and listening... I was least impressed with the SM69 on Dobro. Meh. In shooting out both U47s on vocals, mine (K47) is more tight and robust in the low end and has more of the "reedy" mid forwardness. Echo Mountain's has an M7 (I don't know if original, reskinned, or otherwise), which has an airy quality and less punch in the low end. Anyway, I know how you all like mic porn, so here ya go! bluegrassdan, how would you describe the difference in the Flea? I'm A/Bing quite a few shootouts with the Flea 47 vs the original and tele versions (&this heiserman) found online... It seems to be ever so slightly telephonic compared to the others. Edit: Mellower I guess is how I would describe it. Seems the Heiserman has more presence in the mix. Having owned the Flea for a few years, it lacks that "tight" extended low end and the mid forwardness is not much like a real 47. I always found myself pulling down 1.5k, and then the mic sounded nice on most all sources.
