I could use two wooden Neumann boxes for stereo pairs of KM184s. (4 mics total). Like this:

I want to add a hardware Dorrough meter to my setup and have no idea how to connect it properly to my Metric Halo Lio8. It seems Dorrough has options for either analog and digital meters that connect differently, I suppose.
Thanks in advance.

Tell me about Bang & Olufsen (B&O) ribbon mics. How do they sound? What might they be compared to? Do they have quirks or other issues like noise?

I truly preferred the KM84 in this shootout as well. It is kinder on the high mid and has a tighter low-end, more suited to a tenor or tenny-bear type voice. Say, although completely different microphones, do you think you might do a comparison of your amazing 1960 Telefunken U47 against a KM84. please? Sure. I’m vacationing right now, but will be home this weekend.

We have a pair of Sennheiser 8040s. They are honest, I suppose, but very stark.

Dan, is there a more affordable SDC alternative other than a vintage 84... That you also like? Thanks, Chris We just got a pair of Peluso P84s for live use, but I haven't used them in the studio yet. I use the Peluso P28 on some things.

I’ve used the 84 when a vocal needs more articulation than a ldc provides. There’s a lot good about that mic.

I believe the KM84 can do just about anything. Here's a sample of a U87 compared to a KM84 on vocals.

Howdy,
I'm helping someone who wants to buy an RCA 77DX or D. Send me a message if you have any leads.
Thanks, Dan

The "Hallelujah" shootout has some very soft playing and singing and the differences, though observable, are less prominent. The "Jackson" and "Very Good Advice" samples with more energy start to reveal the deficiencies in the copy mics. They are much more sibilant and harsh.
I too am of the opinion that addressing a vocal with some mics hanging upside down and others right-side up results in different timbres. That opens up more questions about how the mics tones relate to each other. And he's right that artists respond differently to mics.
I also agree with him regarding budget. I remember the days when I had to make payments for a year on a Rode K2 - if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. However, Neumann mics are always better investments when you consider resale value.
(But c'mon! Let's just be honest. That vintage U87 absolutely ruins the rest of em! Lemme know when you're ready to sell it, seawell!)

What’s up with all the fake postings of Neumann microphones these days? Almost every day there’s a U87 for $600 Buy it Now.
While we’re on the subject…INSANE prices abound as well. $34k for a U47? $11k for KM84s.
Makes me want to never buy on eBay at all.

The P87’s sibilance on the word “set (me free)” around the 0:50 mark was a notable. The 49 handled it nicely.

I went up and visited with John Peluso for a few hours last week. What a smart, thoughtful, and genuine guy. I was dropping off a U87 capsule for re-skinning and ended up going home with one of his P-49s. Here's a demo video comparing it with his P87.
I really dig the 49! It seems to be, perhaps, his best design yet.

Whether or not Klaus’s approach borders on smoke and mirrors, all I know is my mic from him sounds incredible and he cares deeply about originality and perfection. That’s enough for me.

I waited in line patiently for two years while Klaus prepared the "right" U47 for me. He purchased it in Bonn, Germany in 1983 and kept it in storage since then!
Upon hearing it, an engineer friend said in all seriousness, "I think something is wrong with the top end of your U47. It doesn't sound like the U47s I'm used to."
I suspect my engineer friend is used to all those beat up, modded, non-original U47s in Nashville with reskinned capsules. 'Cause there ain't nothing like my Klaus U47!

Just make sure the music going into those mics sounds good. All else is trivial.
