Thanks guys. Anybody use the UAD Ocean Way Studios Plug-In? I use it and the 140 and 250 plugs sometimes.

Sounds like the 1920's instantly! If you were doing period music, you could make a sharper looking one for not much more and go to town.

I have version 3 and bought it off of ebay cheap from a dealer a couple years ago, so I have no idea what the lesser version has and doesn't. For me, its indispensable here as I do lots of acoustic instruments. Ditching ugly squeaks and noise is such a blessing. I don't go too far with it, I just get rid of really ugly things and let the lesser noises go so it stays real feeling.

Izotope RX to the rescue. It works flawlessly here when I have a buzz. I use single coils all the time with my lapsteels and teles, so I expect it and prepare for it in post. I don't own it, yet, but every report is that the RX is head and shoulders over the Waves Z Noise and X Noise. Oh, it certainly is.

9 buss's going right now for an acoustic record I'm mixing. The delay compensation in Cubase is flawless and this mix is going smooth as silk tonight. I am hoping for a blend knob (effect/original audio) on the inserts in an upcoming Cubase version and I will be one happy camper.

I completely forgot to say that I am playing the Station Inn with Jim Lauderdale tomorrow night, so, I'll be tied there from 9-midnight. Come there and hang with me! Jerome's gonna cry though, because it's a beer only place. Lol!

Well, it's a little bit short notice for me, but I would have loved to hang. Saturday's my birthday, so I'd feel honored if you raised a glass in my name gents. Will do, Martin.

topshelfmg, is a new friend of mine from this year's summer Namm (met him around the Advanced Audio booth) and he is engineering from his own studio here in Nashville and working with some talented acts. I wish I had started collecting gear and building my studio world when I was as young as he is. Welcome to RGO, bud!

If you're working in Pro Tools, no need for clicks or other methods - just initiate "delay compensation" - it should all line up perfectly. I put all my mix gear on a "mix i/o" setup and load it into PT when I'm mixing. All my hardware is either normaled or patched into the hardware AD/DA in my patch bay. Instantiating hardware is as simple as instantiating a plugin - and is the same process. If you want to PRINT it to free up the piece of hardware, just buss the track with a hardware insert on it to a new track and "record". Simple, elegant and it yields a huge difference in sonics over plugins. Same with Cubase, delay compensation on any insert.

Comparing the V-72's I have (best ones I've ever heard and I'm damn lucky) to an Ampex 350, The 72 has lots more detail and harmonic above 6K, whereas the Gates and Ampex pres I have are way darker and more round and chocolate sounding by comparison. I will also get that thick sounding color by using my RCA 86a in preamp mode only, as it has gain for days on the input stage.

Ampex 350 or a Gates from the same era.

"It is great on acoustic guitar and killer on upright bass as it doesn't bloat the low end and captures all the nuances of the instrument without having to push the EQ."
Personally, to me, I love the bloated fat pillowy upright sound way way more than the oingy jazz sounds. Most grassers and trad country guys do, too. This is how I like to dial an upright in. This is from the pre-beard era in this vid, too.

That P-pop filter is about worthless and both mics should have been high passed at 80 to get rid of the terrible plosive thumps in this video. While the 67 does sound better on him, I wouldn't say it slayed the CV-4 IMO. I actually like the clearer top of the CV-4 and the warmer bottom of the 67. The CV-4 is more sibilant because of it's more open top. We are also shooting out mics that are way far far apart in financial range. Nice 67's are going for $15,000+ now whereas a CV-4 list at under $1600.00. Even with mods from Shannon, you can have 7 CV-4's for that.

I gotta say, if I go to an audio website who only sell direct and it takes emailing them just to get a price, I am instantly turned off and won't pursue it any further. It's a hard ass mindset, but I don't like any runarounds.

Just barely moving the meters (-1-2 db) on a rock track will melt it all together beautifully though.
