I didn't have a good way to carry the mics while I'm traveling, so I created a home for them. I'm not the best foam cutter, but this should work: photoNot bad, I have seen worse!

Bought another Stewart World 2.1 for the live rig $150 used 1800w 5 amp draw at full output. They have one more will probably grab it because who can argue?

I shall repeat what I say in every 635a thread, I wonder how much of the love is because it’s people’s only experience with a natural Omni? I dunno if a freq response from 200hz to 3khz is 'natural' but . . . what do I know? Natural as in single diaphragm my friend 😁

Yeah, Thomann had them this morning. I'm gonna be patient on this one. 479 is cheap, but if it sucks, it's a waste. This is my favorite compressor though. I use the UAD on almost every mix. I'd love to have something at least similar to that in the analog domain. I’m waiting on the Stam…but this is a good insurance policy. At least for any use this year. (Snap) Ask any dealer, Behringer has the same delivery issues as Stam, only bigger.

Theoretically yeah the 635a and RE50 cover the same ground, lots of Omni ENG choices out there, if you include the seed market even more and lots of used 635a’s.
But I’ll miss it probably sold , as many as any other mic.

This where the world of mics can get kind of ugly, he didn’t say it was bad, just that next to its Brethen that goes for 5x to 10x the price it didn’t match up, & why would Sony even think of a mic at this price match’s up with the C8000? Sure it’s the same capsule but that amp and transformer are going to have some influence on the sound. To me it’s no different than a U47 vs a 47fet or a C12 compared to a C414, there is lineage and then there is reality. I'm not really expecting the mic to match up per se, but as an example, for only about $300 more (albeit far less portable but still 1/10th the price of the flagship in question) the AA CM800T has had a great reputation for being a solid representation of the C800G. Similar to how the TLM103 is treated as the U87-lite or U87-ToGo in certain situations. I was also looking at the Chandler L mic as a portable option, but started with the Sony first. It's had great reviews up until now, one of the most portable options compared to the competition, and for the price I got mine, much less of a financial risk than a TLM 103, Chandler L, or even the Soyuz 1973. The Lauten LS-208 is however still on my shortlist for this same application. Guys I know who have tried the AA are in absolute agreement it has the Tone of the Sony like nothing else, but they are also frustrated by the AA because it again nails the color, but when next to the Sony they find it lacks that last bit of detail. Now again let’s talk price and bang for the buck you won’t beat the AA. A couple of guys I know are waiting for the modders to get Smart and start buying up used C80’s and harvest the capsules ( Sony sell’s them as parts but if a dealer is moving capsules in numbers they will require serial #s).

A/B'd (compared) to a C-800G, when it came out, & the only similarity was the name. Really? Not even the forward voicing that Sony advertises for the mic or its tonality or how it sits in the mix? That's a shame if so. I just bought one for what I would feel is a decent price since up until about now, everyone that I've spoken with that picked one up loves theirs. I personally just haven't seen many comparisons. Currently using a Chandler REDD (people have said it sounds like a U47 x C800G crossover) when at home, but for on the go, this seemed like it could be a solid option to have a ballpark approximation of the C800G in a VERY compact, solid-state, travel-friendly build. That being said, I'd love to hear your thoughts, elaborating on that observation. Sound demos if you still have them as well please! I'm not going to name shame, but I've had a few new mic companies out of nowhere "aggressively" contact me to do reviews. Lots of obvious overseas knock offs with laughable market jargon about being the next revolution in microphones. There's a lot of them out there right now... The fact that you can buy a Generic Chinese Mic that looks pretty good at first glance, hype it, probably make 400% for a while till the internet catches on, disappear, then reappear with just a slight investment in new badges and hype is a world of Newbies just asking for it. Now when you consider Telefunken USA, probably one of the most highly regarded and expensive builders did the same thing it’s comical. It’s actually kind of fun to comb the GC or MGR used pages to see some of these.

.... I’m not sure about who actually winds the transformers, in the past I know of manufacturers ( not Warm Specifically) who have gone to name brand highly regarded winders and said basically “ look we will pay a nice markup if You buy these cheap generic transformers and put your stickers on them”. Is that legal!? Why wouldn’t it be? Otherwise we wouldn’t live in a world filled with OEM manufacturing!

I never really got on with CAD, though I’ll admit there was some kind of symbiotic reaction between the original E100 and the original Mackie pres that worked. Part of what pissed me off with CAD was that almost every studio that was a CAD evangelist was opened up as a dealer.

Warm Audio is a good, smart company that fills a valid niche in the pro audio world. People have been whining about them since they came onto the scene because they're (I'm going to use a cringe-fully overused term here) disruptive. You didn't used to be able to get an 1176 of any kind for less than, what, $1500? There's like $200 worth of parts in an 1176. They're not doing the same thing as the high end boutique companies, that's a different niche. But to be able to get solid hardware that works and offers a lot of the sonics of the classics for blue collar money is cool. I've still got a pair of WA76 and they do a great job. I had and liked the WA412 (also had/liked a pair of WA12 when they first came out) and I've had lots of other Warm stuff that's come and gone. I understand the difference between them and, say, Chandler, or even Stam/Audioscape. It's a different thing. Difference in paradigm, difference in design/manufacturing process, difference in sonics. But I think there's way too much cork-sniffing about Warm Audio. If you've got a studio full of high end gear that you've spent decades amassing and love dearly...great, Warm is not for you. For my wants/needs, companies like Stam/Audioscape/IAA are the go-to. But if you're starting out, or just on a tighter budget, Warm Audio has a lot to offer, in my view. Actually they do claim they do exactly the same as the boutique brands but at a lower price. Meets same quality and sound expectations according to their founder, clip time 0:20-0:40 on the video. This is the type of advertising that doesn’t intrigue my trust in a company. Bryce has done an excellent job of marketing Warm to those who have just enough Knowledge to be dangerous. He has been very strategic at sourcing parts from suppliers that have made a name for themselves. The problem is for many of these suppliers the reputation is built on a particular series of parts, some examples, Panasonic has some very well regarded capacitors, they also have some lowend caps, same with ALPs pots they make them at every price point. I’m not sure about who actually winds the transformers, in the past I know of manufacturers ( not Warm Specifically) who have gone to name brand highly regarded winders and said basically “ look we will pay a nice markup if You buy these cheap generic transformers and put your stickers on them”. I mean look at KT/ Behringer with their “ Midas Transformers “. Yes most transformers were optional on most Midas analog consoles, but they were never wound by Midas. They were either the Neutrik, or Beyerdynamic.

I have used regular Ziploc without any issues for 3 decades. On this one you are being more anal / analytical than I, highest praise intended because I haven’t even thought about it😁 First time I have seen "anal" and "highest praise" used in the same sentence - I am honored, or concerned, haven't figured out which yet....I will probably know around 3am. I’ll give you an idea of where the praise comes from, Mike Zirkel who was the manager of Smart studios once said my Mic cases “ were probably the most elegant, intelligent and anal approach.” For you guys using the tool chests where do you keep the chest? The reason I ask is that at every place I know who has kept one in the control room I always hear them vibrating, and as much as I love the concept the rattling always drives me nuts!

For those who use plastic bags, are anti-static type bags a necessity, especially in dry climates? Not sure static build up would be an issue once the mic is plugged in, or even once you grab it, assuming you are a grounding plane, but these things go through my head at 3am when my brain has nothing better to do, especially when it should be sleeping. I have used regular Ziploc without any issues for 3 decades. On this one you are being more anal / analytical than I, highest praise intended because I haven’t even thought about it😁

No not the body style. You can not trademark a physical design if you did not design it in the first place. T funk already have the term Ela M trademarked but this challenge is coming from a much larger entity. It was applied for the same day that the U47 was application was renewed. The plot thickens…….. There aren't many with skin in that game. There's no harmon guessing. Told you we should have filed a trademark on Eric’s Large Accurate Microphone 😁

Hey Now in a former life that would be me😁 Haha... I meant AVID themselves and their overlords! I’ll let you in on a dirty secret; in private after a couple of beers they are actually the most critical of Avid. Yeah publicly they sound like they drink the Avid Kool Aid, but private it’s very different. That’s been everyone from sales guy to VP level.
