Here's my comparison of the Hardware and Software. The HW sounded more open to me. Especially in the top end. Would have been interesting to hear a pass where you tried to match them on sound rather than settings. Makes me wonder if pushing the highs a little more on the plug would get them closer?

I'm in the same boat. Considering picking up the same plugins. Sound City demo hasn't blown me away, but there a few things I like so I can justify a 2/99 purchase. I plan to demo the C-Max and Capitol Mastering comp today, but my plugin folder isn't lacking in comps or limiters. Curious, what killer room verb plugins do you use? Oh geesh, I've got IK Sunset, most of the Liquidsonics stuff, Ocean Way, Inspirata Pro, Savant Quantec, Valhalla, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Oh, and I've got a Bricasti.

Any thoughts on the UAD C-Max? I haven't bought a UAD plugin in years, mainly as a protest to their resale policy. But I'm tempted by the 2/99 sale. The Sound City plug has me all hyped, but I've already got killer room verb plugs. Do I need yet another? The Capitol Mastering comp also seems intriguing, but I've got loads of 2-buss comp plugs, and some really, really killer hardware. UAD is really good at hype. They've got a great marketing department, and some great graphic design in these plugins that make me want to buy.
Which leads me to the C-Max. I guess I could use a limiter. I've only got the FF one and one from TDL. And maybe the IK Stealth, I can't remember. I guess maybe I don't need a limiter? I tried it out briefly, and it def sounds good. Does it do some eq'ing as well? Really seemed to lift the high end to me.

I use Shopify all the time, but I never NEEDED Shopify to make a purchase. You should have options. User error?

Agreed we should split off Inspirata talk. But just to wrap up what we’ve been talking about, I got this response from them: “Thank you very much for reporting the issue. I'm pleased to inform you that from now on, we will be applying the prices that were valid during the promotion, allowing our products to be purchased at these reduced rates without the need for a coupon code.” So, apparently they’re lowering prices permanently. I haven’t been to the site since to check. Ha! Just sent you a message about that. And to bring it back around to Sound City, I was comparing the two last night. I prefer the Inspirata. Sound City is cool, and sounds good, but doesn't bring a whole lot different to the table than my other gazillion room verb plugs. The hype is real, though. Especially at 2/99.

I've had Inspirata Personal for a couple of years now, but I don't pull it up much. I abandoned it a while back because it keeps crashing PT 2023. I tried again last night and crashed again. I will try reinstalling Inspirata tonight. Do you feel the Pro version is worth the upgrade cost? Do you get the full Roompacks with the Pro version, or would I still need to buy those separately? I thought the extra controls in Professional were very worth it considering it's not that much more expensive and you'll be able to avoid buying a lot of other reverbs or even sell some of what you own. When I've looked at the extra roompacks, I didn't feel like they had a lot more to offer. It's tough to find a list of what IRs you get with the ones you have to pay for. I just deduced that there wasn't enough added to make them worth paying for. Well, the sale abruptly ended two hours early. I went to check out and the code doesn’t work. The timer countdown thing is gone as well. Maybe it’s a sign. Oh well. Sounded cool.

I’m still murky on what the difference is between Personal and Pro. You may have already seen this, Ragan:
Looks like "Maximum # of sound sources" is 2 in Personal vs. 16 in Professional. Then there's "Routing Matrix - for routing plugin inputs to different sound sources" and "Individual control for Spatial and Gain parameters, Early reflections and Envelope effect for each sound source".
Not sure what all those things are, but maybe someone else can enlighten us...
I “think” it means you can place different instruments in different positions within the room, versus just fixed position stereo with the Personal edition. Sounds very intriguing.

I will try reinstalling Inspirata tonight. Do you feel the Pro version is worth the upgrade cost? Do you get the full Roompacks with the Pro version, or would I still need to buy those separately? It looks to me like Personal and Professional both use the same "Inspirata Roompack": the full-res versions of the IRs. Then there is an "Inspirata Roompack Extension," which is a yearly subcription to a bunch of other IRs if you want that, and out of that Roompack Extension there are two packs that you can buy separately for a perpetual license, both drawn from that Extension pack: "Post Pro Roompack 1" and "Music Pro Roompack 1".
You can see what exactly is included in each of those here: Doesn't look like the roompacks are eligible for the discount code. I can't get it to work on the Music Pro Roompack.

'INSPIRATA Roompack' and 'INSPIRATA Roompack Lite' are the default room libraries shipping with Inspirata and Inspirata Lite, respectively. They contain the same spaces, but the two room packs are different in download size: the full version has more detailed spatial data. The Lite Roompack that works with Inspirata Lite only is 11 GB in size while the full Roompack working with all other editions of INSPIRATA is 210 GB. Thanks for suggesting Inspirata and Softube Atlantis Chambers. I replaced some instances of UA Capital Chambers with Inspirata and I'm very impressed. Tired Atlantis on a vocal and acoustic guitar. Both are great. I just wish my cpu could handle more instances of these...hah. With the Atlantis, I love to work off of the Vocal Medium Air preset. I'll still use Capital as a supplementary reverb at times. It's not as refined as Inspirata, Atlantis, or Hitsville but it does have some unique quality about it. Last night I downloaded the kodaly IR for Inspirata. Had to clear a lot of space for these IRs because they do take up the most space in the history of IRs I'm guessing. I'll compare the kodaly with the others in a bit. With all the parameters you can modify, you could probably make these big symphonic spaces sound a bit smaller. This thing is just so insanely versatile.

BSA Silencer is BF in spy on sale, $29. Now I’ve got that and Clipper (the two I wanted from them). I think they’re both (especially Silencer) rad. How's the BSA Clipper?

Awesome. But is it on sale? Think it’s the normal price. I remember they said it would be priced similar to other high end 500 series EQs (E27, Pultec, Electrodyne, etc.). Thread title?

Any new thoughts? Might be the only temptation this year. I've got their other one already, but this one's different. But do I really NEED another reverb plugin?

Klaus tuned my 67 capsule and put an select Amperex in it, and it sounds spectacular. I had Klaus tune my capsule as well. And a Bowie select Amperex!

I’ve always used a NOS Tele (grey shield) in my MK67. It gave a really nice lift and clarity. But since I replaced the BV12 with Moby’s, I think I’ve realized the Tele is no longer my favorite tube. Max’s BV12 (as is widely said) is pretty dark and thick sounding. The more pristine, leaner Tele EF86 is a perfect fit. But the Moby is a lot closer to the Neumann and now the Tele sounds a little too lean to me. I tried the stock/included Valvo PF86 (which I hadn’t used since getting the Tele) and I preferred it. Now I want to try an Amperex. Ordering a nice one from Bowie, looking forward to hearing it. I know Vincent R. and Ward are fans. I recently put an Amperex in mine. Not cheap, but more balanced sounding. The tele’s were really mid heavy. I have a Neumann bv12 in mine.

Same issue here! Very disappointed with the lack of quality & customer service. I ended up going with these instead: Jecobb Listen Earpads Replacement... www.amazon.com/dp/B08CRC9NGP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share They are a little more firm/tighter fit around the ears but they work. I hope that helps! Perfect, thanks!

Anyone have a pair of these? Or know of an affordable ear pad replacement option? These started disintegrating 1 year and 10 months after purchasing new, seeing only occasional use. I contacted Focal and was told replacements were $70! I expressed my disappointment and asked if it was normal for them to fall apart like this? The reply was “Yes, but I think it’s worse if you have a rough beard.” First, insane that a company would admit that it’s “normal” for a product to fall apart after less than two years of light use. Second, super creepy that the rep must have looked me up on social media before replying, how else would they have known what I looked like. Why? To see maybe if I was someone important or not? Anyways, Focal will never get a dime from me again. But I’m left with these. Any suggestions?

Just listened to that album the other day and thought the same. Couldn’t tell whether it’s overt, or I can just hear auto tune better now. Sounds like Melodyne to me, only cause I’ve worked with it a bunch.

Yeah, but why not just a MKII at that point? What’s the diff? OMG . . . at the risk of sounding like the latest 'evangelist' for stam, sorry everyone but I only tell the truth which is why I get paid to market, The Mark 1 SOLVED some of the problems with the OG Fairchild. Hate me. Like Ricky Gervais says, I don't care . . . but I'm only telling the truth, right stam ? Ok. What problems? Problems an MKII can’t solve?

DM would be great for recording two different signals, as you know. Maybe itemize full possible features/price point and get peeps to vote ? Yeah, but why not just a MKII at that point? What’s the diff?

Up for grabs is my excellent Coleman Audio M3 monitor controller. I'm down to just one pair of monitors now, so this has been sitting unused. The Coleman Audio M3 monitor controller allows you to switch between four stereo inputs and three stereo outputs, and control the volume and mute of your speakers and headphones. Features include: - passive control room signal path, which means it does not alter the sound quality or introduce noise or distortion to your audio. - uses a four-gang 47-position stepped attenuator that tracks within ±0.05dB, ensuring accurate and consistent stereo imaging at any level - mono button that sums the left and right channels to a mono signal, which can help you check for mono compatibility. - headphone output with its own separate volume control, which allows you to monitor your audio privately or independently from the main speakers - balanced XLR connectors for all inputs and outputs, which provide high-quality and noise-free connections to your audio devices - 1U rack-mountable design, which saves space and integrates easily with your existing equipment Has some rack rash and a rack ear that has some wear/bend. Tried to capture the best I could in photos. 400 plus shipping, PP F&F.
