So Studio works with all daws except logic: wtf ? Workstation mode can run any DAW, excluding Logic. static1.squarespace.com/static/570d497dc2ea51b9b798fed7/t/5f63eaa827c2823bf0e29fd1/1600383656528/RADAR-Studio-brochure.pdfI've thought about radar more than once but I'd need to switch computers, maybe ?, ( I understand that studio has the pc built in), apparently daws, no logic, get the radar system and a controller or use keyboard/mouse to start, seems like a lot of money ? I started the thread as someone locally is selling the base chassis for like $450 cdn, so was curious what the least expensive way of trying radar might be, but after buying a card even used and a decent pc computer, not a cheap demo option. if anyone is interested in the link let me know. You don't need a computer at all with a Radar system. It acts like a multi-channel recorder with many daw-like features. You do need a mixer of some sort for playback

I have a first-gen Keylab88 which seems quite nice. I have yet to explore all of it's functions.

I would probably buy a pair if I can sell my JBL Lsrs. We use our 4315s as mains, and these would add to the retro vibe in our place

If I could do it again, I definitely wouldn’t go to Berklee, or anything in the arts for that matter. I feel like I received a fine education, but nothing I couldn’t have learned on my own without spending a fortune and putting myself into the poor house. If I didn’t get lucky getting into a tech job when I was in school, I probably wouldn’t have survived. Sounds like money isn’t a concern for this kid, but it still feels like a waste to me. Yeah , I always tell anyone who wants to study in the arts to go a school where if you major in the arts have a minor that can pay the bills. This is why I'm thinking Belmont would be a better choice. More diverse curriculum and environment, afaik.

Which program at Berk? Performance or Engineering? Couldn’t convince him to be a heart doctor or something useful? I would imagine performance.

My nephew got accepted to both. I feel somewhat responsible since I bought him his first guitar several years ago, and then a Tascam digital portastudio a few years later. He has some talent, though I never thought Berklee material . I know he wants to go to Berklee, and money is no issue for his parents. I think being near Nashville, at Belmont, would be the wisest choice. Any thoughts?

We used our Ultralux, set on vintage, on a Taylor 12 string during a session yesterday. Beautiful results.

Tape does a really nice thing to the high-end. You know it's there, but it kind of floats as opposed to points if that makes sense. Even if you push the highs to tape they still come back softer. I've heard tale of Val Garay (sp?) mixing on an API would consider "flat" starting EQ with all the EQs set at +4 at either 10 or 12.5k John, if you want to send me a mix, I can run it through my Studer A80 at both 15 and 30ips. Then there is the discussion regarding actually tracking to tape vs mixing to tape. I see/hear a benefit to both, with using both being even more sublime.

Bummer... I got my stedman N90 in from reverb after Eric wrote about it... the element (or something) is loose inside the grill and causing a horrible noise. Completely unusuable. Package didn't look damaged either, so I'm guessing they just got it and sold it without testing it. That absolutely sucks! Easy fix

We're using an original, made in Woodinville? Mackie 2600 power amp with our JBL 4315 mains. Built like a tank, and sounds beautiful.

We have five VP28Litz at the studio, and I would like to build more. However, they don't ever seem to be available anymore. I suspect it's because the "pro builders" snatch them all up, but that's another story..... So, my question is this: How do the other models of Capi preamps - VP25, VP26 & VP312 - compare in sound to each other, and to the VP28? I would probably build a few more Capi racks as well, if they were available.....

I built their c12 kit many years ago, before I was aware of their indiscretions. Very nice kit, good sound. I then sent it off to Shannon Rhoads and was lucky to get it back before his implosion. He did a 251 thing to it and it is now an excellent mic.
