Eeek - not a great vibe / lacking soul, and the opposite of "Warm". All $ / no taste Give me Neil Young Barn vibe any day - or just about any other studio I have ever been in, anywhere on the planet. Love that video and vibe! In the fall of age, I'll fix myself a barn and make a new cover of Neil Young's hit from this video - "no fucking co-o-old beer"

As always, a song with nerve and quality! Tiffany's voice and yours would mix well together in a future song

Funny thread. Sounds great about your clips jcoutu1 You can never get tired of different ways to get a good snare sound. This is nothing new and Andrew Scheps does it all the time. But have been using a Vanguard V4 aimed at snare body lately. Then I run mic saturation in BB105 KIT Plugin. Voila, that's all. Lovely dirty snare sound to blend in with taste.

Maybe an odd question, I tend to strive for cleaness, so you add saturation for more girth? If you ask me, absolutely! Even more if it's a soft song, you get more character with a little dirty sound subtly. On JK song that I played drums on I distorted the sub kick with "Tube screamer" in this mix Gets beautiful when you use it sparingly

The best saturation plugin I've heard. I loved it from day 1. I use it mostly for saturation / drive. Now in version 2 it is auto-gain matching when cranking pre input. I do not know how they have managed to get saturation so good when cranking pre input. But obviously they have some good Coca-Cola recipes that I have not heard from any other plugin so far. /H I just bought it, and haven’t spent near enough time to consider myself experienced in its use, but it does very much remind me of the best Acustica plugins I have. There are some wonderful colors available in their catalog. It’s all the other stuff with Acustica that’s annoying. If KIT manages to capture that quality but actually make their plugins easy to use, they’ll go far. You will not regret it, think it was worth every penny. Everything is about taste and for some it may not be a plugin. I also use UAD Neve 1084 when cranking pre input for saturation. It sounds fantastic 2. Happy mixing Mark and more saturation for the people

Have two pieces and they serve me very well. Replaced to "T4B Kenetek's opto-attenuator modules" in both. Great value for money

I saw that video about the family business N&C. I love when it's pure craftsmanship from start to finish. Only that makes the drum worth the price. One fine day, I will wrap a Christmas present for myself and write some nice rhyme on N&C on the package With that said, you understand that I do not have any N&C snare! But I have collected a lot of snare drums over the years and there is one that has stuck out a little extra and that is on almost all recordings independent style and it is not that expensive. It's "Pearl Free Floating Brass 14 X 6.5". Had to buy another for high pitch and keep the other for low pitch to be able to work faster. Worth checking it out. Sorry if I did not have something useful to come with N&C snare. One day....

Yeeee ... Vance always gives me a smile on my face when I hear him talk and mix for that matter. Like his approach. He thinks more music and back to basic with what is most important, catch the vibe!

Starting to get really curious about this beauty! What about everyone who made the order back in 2018, have you all received it? Now it has been 3 years and 4 months since I made my first deposit and have not received it yet. Got all the other things SA-47, SA-609 that sound like a dream. But the first order (SA-76ADG) has still not appeared. Hopefully for Christmas at least 🙃 Could you email me your details please? (stamaudio@gmail.com) This doesn't sound right to me and I'm am worried that the girls don't have your order on file somehow. I will make sure we send your unit this week. My apologies Hi Josh! Thank you for helping me out with SA-76ADG. I have sent information to your email now. By the way, I have to say that SA47, SA87 and SA609 deliver 110% in the studio, top notch! KR Håkan Hansson

YOUR opinion on why it's a good OR a bad idea to get into the UAD plugin ecosystem in 2021? Ja? Nei? Please share your thoughts! I have been thinking about it, but am very hesitant as I think I have what I need already, but at the same time curious. I have never tried the products myself. If I were to start from square one today, maybe I would think twice depending on how you work. I have used UAD from the first day they came out with their uad-1 card many years ago. I think my ears have gotten used to UA plugs, as well as some HW gears. So I may not be so objective. Further back in time, they stood out more with their quality. Today there has been so much that is in the same league, even that they port the native 3 party plugs to their cards (softube, Antares etc). But what makes me have invested a lot and will continue to invest in UA is that they think so innovatively. Take only LUNA. Then it is a big plus if you want to record with plugs. There, I think UA dsp is a big part of the point. If UA is something for you, I think it depends a bit on how you work. If you are going to record a lot live, it is a big point to get on the UA train. Should you sit and produce mostly in some DAW, I might look at other solutions today that are cheaper and at least as good (Plugin Alliance for example). Sorry for the long post KR H

The Korby 47 was always the weak link to me.
Same here! Sold the U47 capsule and kept the U67 capsule which I think sounds like a dream on female voc. I never get rid of that mic even though I only have one capsule today.

But the music those last few years just did nothing for me...even more so as things got over produced, over processed, grid'ed, sample added, pitched corrected etc, etc, etc... All of a sudden I hated what I did for a living...and considered getting out. But what else could I do? As I started in this biz with my own studio at age 16...in 1972 So how could this happen?
Interesting reading nobtwiddler I have not jumped on the train with 8 channels (rather the opposite). But jumped on what you mention little about over produced, over processed, grid'ed, sample added, pitched corrected. Getting back to the nerve like it was recording in the same room with all the musicians at the same time. This is something that is missing in today's recordings. Soon I'm finishing my studio with my colleague. It is a large live studio here in Stockholm at 1500 Square foot. It will be one big room and back 2 basic! Only with rollable damping screens. Then you have to take the bad with the good with all the leakage of other musicians during the recording. But that's part of the charm. Have looked around a bit and many of the musicians' colleagues have missed this and love the ide to more basic recording. So I know that there is a large customer base to cover the studio when it is ready. Back when you play, sweat, laugh, have eye contact in the same room and deliver that nerve that only occurs during such recordings. Time will tell.........

Have that plugin and it's great. But the funny thing is that I bought Steven Slate Trigger just to use as a Gate functions. There is no one (my opinion) that works as smoothly and well as trigger, love it!

These plugins certainly sound good enough to dominate a project Exactly, Gotta say I'm pretty tagged on this one. Tested in both Logic and then in Luna. But UA needs to improve "Render" meter before all their new releases. Hit red pretty fast, while in Logic with the same session is at 15% of the computer's dsp. Now I will not whine about it. But like the workflow with UC1 on this clip:

I have to say that I like this quite a lot. Tested to download the two new updates Channel Strip and Bus Comp (have the plugs from the old Duende time). Then downloaded SSL 360 and kicked off Logic (does not work on Luna yet). So well integrated. This is exactly how it should be when integrating HW controls with plugins. Love that SSL 360 Mixer. Clear, simple, smooth. I also love external gears. But see this as a fantastic smooth complement to work smoothly with plugins without mouse and screen for that matter, now I hope UA tops this with their integrating HW controls.

Thanks gravesnumber9! However, the studio is not finished. I screened off half the room. Was so tired of building. Longed too much for the drums 🥰 Will have so until hunger comes back to finish the building. But the room sounds magical so far. So it is promising and inspiring! KR H.Hansson One of my best friends is doing a full remodel of his studio. Same deal. Was supposed to be done in January, construction for like 8 months now. He's just decided to get to work in the half that is finished and figure out how to work around the construction. Haha ... can say that I full sympathy and understanding for your friend. He is doing exactly the right thing. Without inspiration you will get nowhere. Before this studio, I have built 30 studios (a little smaller though). My friend and I are building a studio complex here in Stockholm. So when this one's done, I'll throw away my carpenter's belt and drum for the rest of my life. Now I will not hijack this thread from Omicron9 with studio building. If anyone gets the chance to try Vanguard, do it. Among the most affordable microphones with quality!

Love my Vanguard microphones. Tested stereo V44S a while ago and liked it so much so I bought it right away and then stereo set of their V4 and tube model V13.Are used all the time for anything. Great microphone for the money, recommend! Just had the other day stereo V44S as middle room and a V4 on the extra snare What a beautiful tracking room! Very nicely done. Thanks gravesnumber9! The difference is that V13 is tube and V4 is FET. Both microphones are clean, open and forward. V13 has a smoth top without sounding dark. Have it as overhead sometimes. Can't go wrong with these microphones. I knew the different topology, but was wondering more about the sonic differences. Would you say it's pretty noticeable or more subtle? Sorry if I misunderstood you. Can not say exactly what distinguishes them. I have not used them on the same source for comparison. I have taken V13 to overhead and was happy with the sound, as well as V4 to Bd or room and was happy with the sound. As long as things sound good, I focus on other things. I probably realize now that I'm not that guy who compares that much If it sounds good, I focus on other things. To give you a good answer I must take them on the same source. May return to that question! KR H:Hansson
