I have no direct experience with these but I do see them pop up used from time to time. Seems they had a great rep for a run and then it seems dropped off rather abruptly.
It seems the issues were service related, not necessarily with the mics, no?
Should I be concerned about them ever needing service enough to not buy them? Are there better choices out there these days?

I still LOVE my Korby KAT 4 system(47/67/251/C12). I do have concerns about any servicing that may be needed in the future though.

The mic itself is brilliant the customer service is the definition of a nightmare. The question is can you live with the nightmare for the brilliance that is any Korby mic?
Of course the easy solution is buy a Lawson instead get a great convertible and customer service that dreams are made of.

Of course the easy solution is buy a Lawson instead get a great convertible and customer service that dreams are made of. I was lucky enough to deal with customer service when things were good. Had a great experience. Now, I don’t think there’s any way to get in touch at all unfortunately.

Dave Wheeler Nashville! He installed a Heiserman 47 cap in a lollipop for my korby and reskinned my korby 251 head . Great service, and reasonably price !

The Korby is a microphone I would love to own. Emily and I used one for a session a number of years ago. We loved the 251 head. My friend also had a custom 49 head that was wonderful. The 67M head was nice, although more open than I wanted on my voice. The 12 head was sparkly, but wasn't my favorite. I won't say each head sounded exactly like the microphone they were supposed to. I will say they sounded great and in the ballpark.

I had the K 4 system years ago and found the whole thing kind of 2d and dull compared with say my wunder stuff at the time. It also had problems and got sold. These days with companies like Heiserman ect the bar has been raised...

I had the KAT4 for several years. The 67M is incredible and the 251 was outstanding. The other two heads didn’t see much use. Service was a nightmare, but that was before I moved to Nashville and met Dave Wheeler.

Service was a nightmare, but that was before I moved to Nashville and met Dave Wheeler. I've used about 4 different Korby sets over the years and that was my exact experience with all of them except for the one I own now. I know Tracy would custom tweak these to the client's taste and the C12 head in this kit is amazing! Bravo to the original owner. In all the previous sets I pretty much only used the 67m and 251. It's wild how much better this C12 is than the others I used. I got lucky on this one 👍🏼

Same here! Sold the U47 capsule and kept the U67 capsule which I think sounds like a dream on female voc. I never get rid of that mic even though I only have one capsule today.

Like others have mentioned. The mics are incredible, as was the service at the beginning when Nadine was running things.
I have some of his very, very early mics that were done under the Empyrean name.
A pair of "M269s"and "FET 47".
Great news about Dave Wheeler!
Since the "retirement" of Shannon Rhoades [?] who was IMO, the last qualified, knowledgable and experienced tech to work with these mics, Ive been looking for a go to guy.
best, Sean
