As most of you probably have surmised by now... My natural inclination of judgement, can be pretty naive-occasionally. LOL! Nonetheless, I have a sense it'll work out fine for the (vast?) majority of buyers. Chris It probably will but will it be the buyers they want? I have said it before and I will say it again. If you want one, you will be able to buy one.

Oh the DAT machine, probably sold enough in the day to put my kid through college. Micheal be careful because there was an infamous compatibility problem between Sony and Panasonic Machines. It was a big enough issue that in the 90’s guys would have both, it was so bad that 90% of the B-stock SV3700 and SV4100’s we got from Panasonic had nothing wrong with them it was simply the original purchaser was trying to play Tapes recorded on Sony Machines ( I actually sold a Couple of B-stock Panasonics that had Sony Studios stickers on the back). Now you would think after this the 2 would get their acts together, hell no same issue with DVC. Maybe it’s a good thing we got rid of dedicated Audio and Video storage media! Thanks for the warning. I have no idea what machine(s) the tapes were recorded with and I probably can't find out. My first tests are OK, so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. Helical scan devices were a clever (a little too clever) way of getting faster tape speed across the heads, but incompatibilities were legion. I remember buying rewinders for all my VCRs just to lower usage of the mechanism. It was completely true that a well-calibrated analog tape machine had better frequency response and a more tolerable way of handling signal that exceeded headroom, but DAT won on the convenience front. That mattered a lot when you had to do very quick setup before a concert. But the machines were easy to fall out of love with when the time came. Just an fyi, Bergsten Music near Boston has some Dat machines for rent. At least last time I was there I saw a few so likely still available. bergstenmusic.com/

Nope. I would get in trouble for posting unreleased marketing info so just trust me on this. I just want to correct any misinformation. Let's cut through the noise: Both switches I suggested to Neumann (low cut, cardioid only) will come standard in all M49V. The only build-to-order (BTO) option a customer has at time of ordering is to have the switches positioned to "low cut = bypass" and to "cardioid-only". Unless so ordered, the switches are set to "30Hz low cut" + "multi-pattern". As I did with the U47FET and the U67 Reissue, I will publish a thorough review of the M49V, including detailed comparisons to the corresponding vintage version M49 soon. Thank you for clarifying!

The main reason for the mods is to match whatever version you may have, if you already have one with these mods.

I know that snipping the S2 wire in the U67 was recommended and highly discouraged by others....FWIW.... It worked well in mine.

Yes, this is an S2 wire and both of these options will be factory mods that would have to be requested when ordering. From my understanding they are switchable options that will come standard with the M49v and not options that must be requested. Nope. Very interested to learn about the tube. What I've heard so far is that there will be a switch to take out the 30hz HPF (and have it go down to 12hz) - is this essentially an S2 switch? I know that snipping the S2 wire in the U67 was recommended, so it sounds Neumann is now putting the HPF on a switch. Also I heard there will be a switch for cardiod that will give it 2db more output and 3db less noise from the traditional multipattern cardiod setting. Didn't hear anything about the tube choice. Yes, this is an S2 wire and both of these options will be factory mods that would have to be requested when ordering.

Just to clarify, he said "1. Originally the idea was to produce 25 mics a month and now the number will be much, much, much less. 10 mics for the entire US is what Ive been told now, that's right just 10 mics. Why? Because the war between Russia and Ukraine has made obtaining some parts in those countries impossible now." The plan is to produce 25 mics/month worldwide. The americas will get 10 mics/month so that includes Canada, the US and South America. he also said "If someone in the US thinks they might want one, the smart thing is to contact your dealer now and put the order in from what I heard. Once the first 10 orders in that's it for a long time, unless you live in a different country and there are smaller amounts in those places." which is sage advice but then he makes it sound like the US is only getting 10 mics, which isn't correct. It's kind of like that game of telephone where info gets slightly altered as it goes down the line.... No Dealer is going to take an order till there is firm information. FYI, Dealers already have a bunch on order. Pricing already went out but there is an embargo until August. Keeping the scarcity in mind, it makes sense that some dealers are planning to get some committed before the official launch.

Latest word via Thrill... Expect availability to drop to around 10/month, due to supply issues. (Partly the War in Ukraine) It won't be like the U67 Reissue, much more low key marketing. Chris Just to clarify, he said "1. Hmm... Sounds like Klausified information then. BTW model name is M49V. Planned distribution is 25 microphones per month-World wide. Price is "Introductory". Main US dealer to be Sweetwater. Seems like a Low Supply/Extreme Demand scenario to me. Chris Yes and no. More will be revealed.

Word just in via Thrill Factor/Another website... Expected availability of M49 RI, around August. Around $8500 Street. Interested deemed reliable, but nor guaranteed. Chris Plz elaborate. I know you joke around, & you're good at it (great sarcastic "shots"), but is this serious? he's not joking.

If I wasn't figuring out my potential hospital expenses... Had my eye on some things around 10% of the Reissue cost. Guessing they have a tube stockpile. Klaus hinted they may, on that particular thread. As in "don't be surprised" kinda vibe. Of course, I still have all those mint NOS VF-14's! Chris There is no AC701 stockpile. As mentioned earlier that will not be the tube due to scarcity. But, Klaus has been involved with the development of this mic from the beginning so it will be up to his specs.

I did a tour of prisons in Ct over 30 years ago. It was a thunder storm and lightning hit close. I played barefoot with a strat and had my mouth on the mic. Needless to say I got zapped and I saw the blue light. Switched to emgs after that and never got zapped again. So did you start wearing shoes? Nope, once I got EMGs, which are low impedance and not grounded, I was good to go.

I played a 1 hr set at a medium security prison in CA. For 900 guys. Easily the most depressing place I have ever been. Back to the original topic! Oh I have a couple of harrowing stories. One gig where we played in a library at a prison, we found ourselves alone with the inmates while packing up. One guy came up and bragged about how many people he killed and how he wouldn’t mind adding a few more. Good times.

Almost 30 years ago was playing guitar during a thunderstorm and lightning hit just outside the house on the side where the ground rod. The shock I got from the guitar made my hands tingle for a couple days. I never touch anything in the studio during a thunderstorm to this day.. I did a tour of prisons in Ct over 30 years ago. That was lovely on both acoustic and vox. I have two km84 with two km 85 capsules so I have some stereo options. But if I had two km 86 I would sell mine. The km 86 definitely had something richer going on. Great job on this demo! Thanks, mc

Trying these out for the 1st time. So far pretty amazeballs. Much better and very different than the NDH20 due to different drivers and open back design. en-de.neumann.com/ndh-30

No big buys lately but I did have a buddy install a Seth Lover PU into the bridge of my Gary Moore LP. Also picked up a nice stainless steel steamer pot at good will and went and bought a couple of lobsters as well.

And now I know what's so unique about the Percolator - its circuit features an unusual NPN/PNP Darlington pair and generates lots of oh-so-musical 2nd, 4th and 6th harmonics, while avoiding the odd ones (those harsh ones that appear as soon as you start clipping), This looks like a new version of it? landdevices.com/products/hp-2?variant=40648537473186

thats a great thread. I had some of the same issues. I have two power supplies that look identical but one weighs a lot more and seems to work better. Transformer perhaps? I have not opened it but will bring to my tech to check out.
