I'm pretty curious about this. There isn't a demo is there? You can buy the SW mic for about $70 and use it with the free trial. As others have mentioned, it's essentially a rebranded Behringer ECM 8000, so you could also use one of those (or the equally affordable Dayton Audio EMM-6). Even if you end up not liking the software, I've actually found that the mic sounds great on acoustic guitars.
That said, I have nothing but great things to say about Sonarworks. If you're already accustomed to the sound of your room/speakers, the transition can be somewhat awkward, but once you acclimate, you won't want to go back. It makes my cheap JBL LSR308s sound like actual pro monitors — they have a nasty upper midrange that tends to sound washy/metallic, and Sonarworks totally cleans that up.
I was originally thinking I'd stop using Sonarworks when I get a pair of high end speakers, but a friend of mine just started using it with his freaking Amphions and he's been raving about it. I went by his studio the other day and it somehow managed to improve the sound coming out of those things. Highly recommended.

Should the Sonarworks mic have a graph with it? I just got a used one in the mail.

Should the Sonarworks mic have a graph with it? I just got a used one in the mail. Your mic should have a serial number or microphone ID, which you can enter at the bottom of this page to download a calibration file: www.sonarworks.com/downloads
The calibration file is then loaded into the Sonarworks software to retrieve the exact frequency response of your mic. Hopefully, the mic ID should be printed on the mic itself or on some documentation that came with it. IIRC, you may be able to use the software without a calibration file, but the results may not be as accurate.

Anyone tried the Sonarworks True-Fi?

How does Sonarworks account for timing issues with its room correction?
I’ve heard on the other forum that Dirac Live has better more accurate correction.

Let me know if it’s requiring you to request access for the second file. Weird.

Not sure one it better than the other. Just different. I think I might prefer the original actually. Not to throw you off or anything on using Sonarworks.
the reverb is better in the sonarworks one. But the upper mids sound much different too, not in a way I like compared to the original. More clarity in the Sonarworks but might be a step to far I think.

Disagree with Blackdawg. The difference is not subtle at all. Sonarworks mix had way better clarity and punch.

Yeah. Don’t think there’s any comparison. The original is definitely brighter.

Original sounds RnB sonar sounds modern country. I prefer the original. More energy. Especially in the low end. True it’s “muddier” but also fuller.
Asterisk: I don’t like the sound of modern country.

To my ears the Sonarworks version is definitely more pleasing to listen to and is right in line with my experience. It just seems crisper without loosing any of the fullness. Great song by the way.

I like the original better by a mile. The SW version sounds brittle in the mids and the vocal.

The SW version sounds brittle in the mids and the vocal. Kind of a phasey crunch.

Asterisk: I don’t like the sound of modern country. Well, that's silly...I have no idea what a modern country mix is... I do think I took too much of the bottom out of the SW mix...kind of miss the bass being below the kick...but I really don't get the SW mix being crunchy and mid rangey...I mean, really? I actually dug out 2-4khz in the vocal.

I listened to these on my studio monitors and then again with apple ear buds since we all know that is how most music is enjoyed today. I still think in this instance the SW version translates better to our most used listening method.

I think the drums sound better in your original mix before Sonarworks. The snare in particular sounds better suited to the song. BTW: What's the drum kit? Superior Drummer 3? If so, was it a stock Massenburg kit,or something else? Sounds great.

hmmm. Maybe you're right...I guess this isn't really an apples to apple thing, because I made mix decisions that didn't really have to do with hearing...know what I mean? Like the drum thing I intentionally rolled off. Maybe it's a "thing"...because now that you mention it, I kind of miss it too.

Whatever you rolled off the snare took away some of the softness and give that was there before. At least that'show it sounds on my Sennheiser HD 600 headphones using the Sonarworks calibration file. LOL!
