Hi Ericn, First thing thanks for your interest. Secondly a fader only version does exist its just a special order as we have to mod the processor cards a little bit. Its still about the same price as a MACH I as the trade off is even though there is no mute or side card the mod time evens out.
And lastly Jeff now has a team running the DAWtomation company now so all questions should be directed towards the facebook page above or info@dawtomationsystems.com.
If you are interested please PM us and we can discuss further and leads times involved in ordering these as all systems are built for each desk.
Thanks Andy

Sorry we have been quiet over the past year after AES. We had some system tweaks and other things to do as well. The website can be reached either by www.Dawtomation.com or www.Dawtomationsystems.com. The company is a separate entity to CAPI and is run by the Designers of DAWtomation. As it was the best solution for Jeff to be able to focus on his great analog products and the team be able to focus on the automation. The website over the next week will see some major changes including price restructuring and lead times coming down. As the SOLO8 lead time is down to about 7-10 days now. We do have a VST plug in that is in it's BETA stages of testing at the moment and we will let you know when that will actually be released. It is for MAC only systems still as trying to keep Windows up and running is too much of a headache. The Power Supplies will also come down in price also. There is no way for us to make a system function properly with PoE as it creates many issues with larger systems and also grounding issues. We would rather deliver a quality product. And this resolution on this far exceeds 256 steps it operates at 11bit 2048. And its not as simple as it seems to make something like this work and not crash. (Remember this is controlling level and mute post D/A converter so you can use your outboard properly. And much care was taken to make sure that the taper is exactly the same as the DAW's.) Yes you can use the Avid Artist Mix or similar fader controls with the system. And yes you can look at channels in banks of 8 at a time. There is no way for us to build a budget moving fader system that we would put our name on and with the type of faders and switches and board layouts that are required to do so. We will be unveiling a few things at AES this year stay tuned as the date gets closer. And we will inform you once the website is fully updated. For Avid users we are going to give a discounted price until we run out of the BETA version of the SOLO8 Systems. Everything is the same as the production runs sans one thing. The production runs have a hard relay bypass so you may leave the system patched in and bypassed without running it through the VCA's. The Beta versions when you hit the master bypass just keeps the signal running through the system at unity or you may patch it in. Please feel free to e-mail us at info@dawtomationsystems.com for any other questions. There will be more to come over the coming weeks. Here is a link for a video tutorial. www.facebook.com/dawtomation...1268152683709/

Dawtomation is having a pretty killer Holiday sale.
1899 for 24ch of non relay bypass SOLO8 modules
2399 for 24ch of relay bypassed SOLO8 modules.
Pretty killer deal. Might see if I can swing it even though I don't have a SumBus yet. But could use it with the DIYRE SB2 for now.

Are these still being made? All of the links here don't seem to go anywhere. Looking for something like this since I was gonna get an SSL Sigma but that's now discontinued and some on the purple site are saying support for the Sigma dropped immediately and it won't be getting updates for the plugins for current and future OS (don't know if that's true or not, just what I read there). I guess current option is pretty much just the WesAudio ngLeveler if these are not in existence anymore.

I have 3 of the VCA Solo 8 boxes I've been trying to sell as I moved to a PC so the plugin doesn't work to control them. That said, I don't know if the plugin to control them will work on OSX11+ as I don't have a machine to test that on. Which I've told folks about and that has scared them off. Don't blame them. Basically $3000 paper weights now..I was supposed to get a 4th unit and never did as well. A better option IMO and what I will get to replace these is the Wes Audio NgLevelr: wesaudio.com/ngleveler/Basically the same thing far as I can tell but by an established company that likely won't go away any time soon. 16ch in one box vs just 8. And saturaction too.

This is also why I never liked the “ plugin “ based automation, at least with an old Uptown system all I need is a legacy CPU and OS, here at some point I would end up running a legacy DAW to run automation, not fun. Anybody who has installed or maintained an aftermarket moving fader system knows these things are a real PITA to get working correctly.

A few years ago, I gave my buddy who has Uptown on his Neve some working Windows 98 PC's just so he'd have that covered down the line.

They should have used an open source protocol like OSC so that others could add support down the road and the hardware doesn’t become useless. That’s too bad dawtomation didn’t work out. it’s a very niche market for vca automation systems with I’m guessing not much demand. I was really considering going this direction a few years ago but held off at the time. Guess it was a good decision. Recently I added more conversion instead to do the hardware insert thing which has been working well. At 96 channels now.

I guess current option is pretty much just the WesAudio ngLeveler if these are not in existence anymore. New SSL digital stuff is made in China stuff with third party drivers. When the product is EOL, they stop paying to have the drivers updated. SSL is programming their own plugs now. Their plugs are good but they should write and maintain their own interface drivers too. That controller looks awesome if you use the SSL native strip, which is fine and prob the fastest workflow emulation, but the plug has been through 7 native iterations already, was Duende before before that, and the dsp is based off their old digital mixers. When the plug-in gets updated again, will the controller still work? What about when the gui changes in 3-5 years? Then it won’t match up to what’s onscreen. What if VST gets superseded due to Steinberg shenanigans by U-he’s open CLAP format? VST2 is discontinued and some developers haven’t made the leap to VST3 for good reasons yet. AU has its own issues and AAX isn’t m1 compatible yet fully. There are issues with VST3 and MIDI that must be hacked around, issues with VST2 and automation, etc. will the controller still work then if it’s not some standard control surface protocol with flying faders? Etc. SSL and other like decently well Built daw controller companies (AVID tsk tsk) have historically not been good about this

But bad leadership is what I got from my experience drove it into the ground. (not jeff btw, far as I know he stepped away from it long ago, probably due to the people or person running it. That should have been the first red flag for me).

I feel bad on this one, because of Jeffs involvement , that I never asked how deep he he was involved on this one and that’s on me not him, I kind of jumped on the bandwagon. I hope you find something that works for you.

I'm liking the look of the Wes Audio ngLevelr personally. And think it'll work great for me when I get to that stage. Heres hoping!
