Any chance for an update Jeff? I'm sure you are busy (to everyone else: this is actually how I start most of my emails to him when I have a bunch of tech questions) but was wondering where would be a good start for a search regarding vca automation?

he's in the middle of moving to nashville. he said his store should be open before the end of the month. i doubt he'll make any progress on his automation project between now and then.

He has been posting short videos of the automation working and also yesterday I saw I think a modular 32 channel summing box that will be a diy kit ?

If that mod summing box is DIY I'm all over it. Super pumped on this.

We gotta keep the pressure on for him to finish it : ) The DAWtomation is getting near the end of R&D but still lacks a few tweaks and implementations. It's really going to be a cool setup with his summing box.

Will the Dawtomation only work with Capi OB gear or it will be universal ?

Will the Dawtomation only work with Capi OB gear or it will be universal ? The 8 channel DAWtomation SOLO box is totally universal. It's a very simple 8 in 8 out box with DAW controlled VCA's and mute chips. It can be used between any D/A convertors and analog gear like summing mixers. It can also be used as "insert" based automation like patching into a console's send/return point.

Oh god no. There is no HUI or midi data to be found. This runs over ethernet from our own proprietary ground up plugin which yields 1028 steps of fader resolution. THAT 2181's.

release date and price point?

release date and price point? We are planning on a June release/start shipping date. Production PCB's, PSU's and metalwork have officially been ordered. Our plan is to have a special early bird price of $999 for the first 25 SOLO8 units. After that they will go to normal price $1150. We still have to finalize the PSU price but are estimating it to be around $225. Each PSU will run 3 SOLO8 boxes. Once we get the website launched, we will start a reserve list for the first 25 units. That is under works right now and should be live in a month or so.

Hopefully very soon after that. About 2-3 weeks ago we ordered the updated revision of the fader driver PCB's. Hopefully these will be the last version needed. 64 channels worth for a big test!

Hey ya'll, I replied to the thread over at the purple site and wanted to share the same info here.
We did have a demo DAWtomation system at a couple of the summer NAMM afterparties but kept things low key. We made some great improvements the week leading up to NAMM and all of that stress testing revealed 2 new things we had to work on. Maybe "had to" is a strong term but we want to make sure we meet our own target goals and not release something before its time.
The first of those things is matching the fader scale of PT's. The PT's level editor window goes from +12dB to -143dB (or something absurdly low). Our SOLO8 hardware box has a dynamic range of 102dB. We felt it imperative that our level editor window match that of PT's exactly, within our dynamic range. So, our engineers have mapped things out so we are dead on from +12dB to -90dB (102dB DR). Anything below -90 in the PT's editor window is a mute in our hardware. This means that a user can copy/paste from our level editor window back and forth to the PT's editor with no inconsistent changes. We tested a couple of other plugins and none that we found are equal to PT's, which is interesting. It will come in handy for someone wanting to compare a previous mix or whatnot. To go hand in hand with this we slightly adjusted our hardware signal path to ensure that we have +28dBu of headroom at the input and/or output. If someone uses our SOLO8 hardware at the insert point of an old discrete/transformer based console, there will be no weak link as far as headroom goes.
The 2nd important thing was a feature for the standalone app DAWtoMix. Not sure how much I mentioned about it before but it works hand-in-hand with the plugin and shows banks of 8 faders simultaneously in one window. It will allow a user to toggle between as many SOLO8's as are connected to the system. Did I mention that is up to 128 channels not 32? Since its a separate program from PT's, we found it cumbersome to move the faders on our app but then have to change focus back to PT's for transport control and vice versa. We quickly found that we needed to implement transport control on our standalone app. That took some doing but we have it working now in a basic Play, Stop, Record scenario. The user setup is pretty painless. We have a full-blown kick-azz GUI for the transport all done and ready to be implemented.
On the GUI note, we are also deep in the midst of implementing the final graphics for the plugin and DAWtoMix app. Up to this point we were using some placeholder beta graphics. This also includes a few new features like Wild Groups. Once our software engineer is done we will have a bunch of testing to do. When the behind the scenes bugs have been sorted, we'll be getting some systems out to a few beta testers here in Nashville.
I wish it could be quicker but this has been no easy task.
