Well, this whole thread has made me sad. I had been looking at the toft and felt it was in a price range I would be comfortable saving toward and investing in for a console for some vibe and warmth, and as a way of stepping OTB. You can buy Midas Siena and Verona 32/40/48 input boards all day long for $1,800 - $2,200. Nobody wants analog boards for live sound anymore, so they have to be dumped for less than the price point of new, cheaper digital offerings. I would take them over a Toft or MANY of the 20+ year old deteriorating recording desks unless you're a maintenance wiz (and have the down time to spare.) IMO, this is very good advice! There a 32x8 Midas Verona on Reverb right now for $1790. 8 aux, 4-band eq, an excellent buy. Your other alternative is to go the Wiz route: buy a small Soundcraft Delta, mod it up and work around the size (unless you are a sole practitioner, in which case you don't record more than eight in anyway). I have touted APB Prorack and Spectra series as a good-sounding, underrated find, and so is a Midas.

The lower end Midas boards were very popular with home studios, bands clubs, lowend SR companies AV rental houses churches and schools! In other words the people least likely to take care of a console! Great board but for every clean one I see 3 problem children. Good news no unubtainium in side I wouldn't suggest buying one without being able to go over everything before handing over the cash!
