Maybe it's just that those hi-hats don't work well with the M201. svart , what model hats were you using at the time (or did you notice the same evil regardless of make/model hats)?

I've had a few different hats over the years, Zildjian 13" fusion hats then Sabian 14" Stage, then Zildjian 14" mastersounds, a few different lesser ones like Dream, and now Sabian HH hybrids. They all have their quirks for sure, but I've also had multiple M201 mics over the years too. Similar to the M80, I've bought and sold maybe 3 of the M201 series mics (one really old teuchel version and 2 XLR versions) and I have to say that I never noticed much difference in them on snare. The off-axis pickup seemed to accentuate the nasal attitude of the cymbals where other mics like the SM57, I5 or Beta57A might have poorer off-axis rejection but they're smoother sounding. I guess the short version is that I just don't like the M201. I'd much rather use the Beta57A or I5.

A lot of people use SM7s on hats do to their hi mid accentuation and good rejection. But to me, it results in a horrible sound and a 12db notch EQ at 2.1K with a Q of 1/5 an octave. But we all do different things!

I the 320 is a good purchase. I've used it on kick several times. I think it's good for vocals and cabs too, but you just need to try what feels right on the song. I have moved kick duty to a different dynamic mic, the Alien8, which is something unique and I'm enjoying the results. But no hesitation for using the 320... Really on anything. Right on. I got interested in the RE320 after watching the Radiohead "from the basement" sessions on utoob. Thom Yorke was singing into an RE20 and well, they certainly had more expensive options available. But it got me thinking about trying an RE20 for vocals in a setting with backline volume and leakage, and then I saw the RE320 at the guitar shop up the street... It'd be rad to have something for vocals besides the 441 that doesn't also turn into a "drum room" mic.

All those 70's/Stevie Wonder hits, on a RE20 weren't shabby either. Chris

Yes! I was also warned as a child, to avoid pontificating. Not only a pointless endeavor, you could go blind too. Chris
