It seems like every time I check craigslist, reverb and ebay, there are slim pickings for used audio gear. Even much of the new stuff I'm looking for has horribly long lead times. Am I missing something? Has the used market shifted to other market places? I know there's some stuff going on on Facebook but scrolling though a million posts just sucks.

Used stuff I assume is hot right now from home studios and free time induced by lockdown.
New stuff, everyone is dealing with supply chain interruptions due to COVID. Things that used the be always stock now hit or miss, things that used to be 1 week now 4, 4 weeks now 12... it’s painful.

Good news is lots of affordable new gear, that are very good. And Plugin development too... Chris

I've noticed that cool, old used mics have been much harder to find the past few months. I scan everyday and the bargain finds aren't what they were a year ago. The guitar pedal market is exploding so there are lots of trade ins to be had at decent prices. But as someone else commented, the deals these days are in plug in sales, and mid priced new gear such as Locomotive, CAPI, AudioScape, Iron Age, Klark Teknik, etc..

Depends on what gear you want.

Used gear prices have reached comedic heights as well. I miss the days of buying gear cheap, testing it out, then selling it to someone else for cheap.

People with money who aren't professional musicians are buying a lot of it up. The same with certain guitar models. Others the programmers and dentists won't touch. Most musicians are barely getting by now due to covid and album budgets now can't afford more than workhorse gear. For other stuff, it's because production is slow due to COVID. lpedrum chessparov plugins are weird because recently they got A LOT BETTER, a lot of pros and semi pros eat them up when they're on sale a few days a year, and the amateurs really aren't buying the good ones, which can be expensive and aren't marketed constantly. Waves, Slate, and Plugin Alliance not on sale are still selling but to whom? What's Auto-Align for and what's a Molot? A unit of measure? Brand name gear and instruments are a lot easier sell than a 100-200 dollar reverbs and brain melting mastering plugins. Show them Unisum or the Satin control panel and they're in way over their heads.

I ordered the Klark BBD320 the other day. Thanks for the heads up. Should be great to have for certain singers while tracking.

I ordered a BAE 1073MP Dual a week or so ago ... 8 weeks lead time!!
I have also been looking at second hand stuff ... but as I am being picky ... I haven’t seen anything yet.
That said, In the last couple of months I sold a Chandler Zener and a Stam SA4000 and they sold in 48 hours!
I also have an RND 5060 up for sale but as thats a bit of a bigger ticket item its taking longer.

Probably more people in quarantine sniping every good auction that comes up. Just more people on every auction, driving prices upwards. People sitting around bored with stimulus money to spend.
It will probably change when people get too busy again. Just a theory.

Just got notice that has been extended out to March now.

The shift from eBay to Reverb seemed like a few years ago back when Reverb was taking a smaller cut of each sale but now they are charging what eBay does. So that's why I was wondering if things shifted to some other place that I'm unaware of.

The shift seems to be more towards selling locally as well. Facebook Marketplace has certainly picked up. It seems more trustworthy than CL because you can really dig into a seller's background and the seller has a lot to lose if s/he screws someone over.

The AKM fire plus covid has killed supply chains on new interfaces for sure.

Am I the only one who keeps hearing The Kinks, Where Have All The Good Times Gone when they read the title of this thread?

I was thinking of the '90s Paula Cole hit, "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone."

Man I've been trying to get a few pieces but people are asking so much more than they are worth suddenly I've noticed. It's like housing prices, sheesh.

I'm sure you noticed people selling Audioscape units for the same price as new -- because of limited release. I laugh my head off at that! Many times, these sellers want the buyer to pay for shipping as well (when the original purchase price included shipping).
If a used piece of gear isn't discounted AT LEAST 15% from the original price (including tax/shipping) I groan and move on.
But, hey, I guess some buyers will pay stupid prices or else these used units wouldn't move.

Motu M4 are selling above new price right now, kind of silly. Guess there's a lot of frustrated people trying to make some fresh tracks.

I guess the market is the market. I have sold used gear for what I paid or even more many times.
