I ordered the full size modules and rack That’s what I really wanted, but I just couldn’t swing it. Plus I think it’s going to be a while.

Just got the pre in my rack and singing through it...I'll put up some examples. It is certainly a LOT more usable than the Arny ones since it has the output transformer. You can actually get the drive/distortion without the major clipping. Through my headphones (which doesn't mean much) I prefer it to my 1073 - it has a lower midish bump with maybe a small dip in the upper mids and then a fantastic top end. It's hard to see in my old age...can't wait to get the EQ.

OK...listening over monitors...and it's different than headphones. I actually hear more upper mids in the H2.

Both tracks sounded good, pretty damn close in fact, but that said, The H2 track sounded a bit more intimate to me, had a little something extra that seemed to work very well on your vocal!

Yeah - it's closer than I would have thought, honestly...it seems closer than Helios/1073's in the past that I've had. Still waiting on the EQ and I would imagine that won't hurt with another input and output transformer stage. Also - I prefer the Helios midrange and 10kHz shelf.

It's got a richness that my ear is drawn to.

To my ears the Neve sounds fuller, richer down low. slightly more compressed and focused. The H2 is very pleasant and smooth but has a bit more mid, upper mid forward ness . I heard this exact same thing yesterday with my friends voice singing through a bae 1073 then H2 500 on a u67. not sure I like that on your voice with that mic? Look forward to hearing it with the added circuitry of the eq.

I don’t remember that with the Arny pre…but I always EQd to adjust. Now - on pretty much anything else, I think I’d like the extra detail.

I got the files in my studio.the H2 sounds really nice. if I did a couple little sharp dynamic eq cuts in Pro q-3 btw that resonant 2 and 3.2 k thing I'm hearing, it smoothed out.also soothe2 single band focused around 2.5k-3k[depth @ around 11 o'clock] kinda did the trick as well.sounds real nice. the Neve I felt didn't need it. could be just my old man drummer ears tho. upper mid 2-3.5k resonant peaks on vocals and e-guitars drive me kinda nuts. I really wanna hear the eq now.that was my favorite thing on the old modules.

Yeah - I'm gonna live with the pre for a while...I used to always dig out a little 1-3kHz on the Tony pre...but I thought I was hearing more of a peak in the upper 8kHz region. Maybe I thought that, then saw the freq plot and confirmed my bias.

Based on these 2 examples, I don't really like the Helios. I mean, it has a nice openness to it, but it is bringing too much resonances on the upper mids. Compared to the Neve here, it sounds a bit cheap.
Funny enough, I love UAD Helios and the Eq. I also really liked the first video showing this new models, so maybe it's just something dependent to the source.
