In my mind, from the discussion on the previous (fantastic thought provoking) page, A cab of 4x10's and a 15" solo... Mix to taste. I just love 15's on everything anyway. Gotta have at least one!

I'm pretty happy with a REDDI if used with a compressor. I'm not a bassist by trade. Sometimes supplementing with something after it's in the box works, depending on what you're doing, but it will definitely get it in the box satisfactorily... I just wanted to see this in print typed from my fingers --> a HUGE Ampeg rig and a place to unfold it in!

Just wanted to throw a warm greeting to all of you brethren & sistern, no matter where you are in the world. It's good to set time aside occasionally or regularly to ponder the blessings of life and existence. Love and peace to you all!

Still happily doing 24/48k here. I did 96k for a while if it was heavy on plugins that sounded better there. Now-a-days, for me, plugins are just fillers.. Doing analog with a pinch of digital. I still do 192k if doing sound design since the higher resolution gives "easier/more" editing options. I just accept 48k and avoid the loop of trying to out-do somebody else's set-up.. Leaves time (space, money) to focus on what sounds good to me musically. Personally, I've come to the conclusion that it's more about the material than the process - as long as the sound is inspirational to me and genders other ideas from the root idea. I still dig some of my old 16/44.1 stuff. It was an inspiration that brought it into being and the nuances that came with it, well, it's painful for me to think of changing it and losing the whole spiritual feeling that comes back when I hear it; verbatim. Too much on my plate to even consider it anyway. Another life would be handy though .

When recording others, the best option is to track them while they're doing warm up run-throughs. You usually get the best feeling performances when the singer isn't worried about getting everything perfect.. Which makes it more perfect. For doing yourself? That's a tough one. All I can say is practice heavily and do it a lot in front of others to get the jitters out. Perhaps using emotions to do it. If it's an angry song, do it while you're angry, etc.. I agree. The best feeling stuff I've done was in the first couple of takes. Those were the ones with the stuff that was extremely difficult to reproduce; and were the ones to be built upon. Some of my better ones were when I had the most basic idea for a new song. Just got behind the mic and went wherever it went. Those were the ones that propelled the song.
I remember my wife & I were talking about a style for BU vox and she did an operatic style vocal in the middle of the kitchen without a way to capture it.. It was glorious and could never be reproduced without missing something here or there. I learned to never mess around again without her being near a mic, but not let her know she was being recorded.. I'll never forget that take that will never be heard

I don't mess with RAIDs. Simply copy everything to a spare HDD (more cost effective than SSD and reliable too).. every few years, get a new drive.

It wouldn't take much to pimp it out. It could function as a rack mount too. Add some pillow button padding and some tassels and Bob could be your uncle

If you're going to be taking up space, go the utilitarian approach with nearly the same footprint and more functionality. You can use a rolling tool cabinet. Harbor Freight has good quality boxes... around $90. - $160. with storage space..

I'm using a Belkin N-300 wireless router. I mainly use it to check customer's wireless stuff, but I do use it for when I take a lap-top outside and on lap-tops in the bathroom and downstairs in the kitchen. No problems with the signal anywhere. Got it at Walmart. The cheapest dual band they had.

As crazy as it sounds, I've been using a COBY mic lately for writing and guide tracks. I wouldn't want to shoot it out with anything other than low end Shures/Radio Shack, but for my voice it fits right in the mix. Up on the Mic a little, it's bassy. Somewhat decent SPL performance. Pull back from it a little and I can't complain about it. It's from a Karaoke DVD player kit I won from a radio call-in contest. It laid around unused for years 'cause I figured it was worthless. I have doubts that it would work too good on anything other than my voice... Still scratching my head on why it works!
To get an AM Radio sound, I've got a Harbor Freight Security cam. The vid is broke, but the mic works...

This has been on my mind a lot lately. Probably the biggest unspoken pain in the neck for non-drummers. Been thinking of going the trigger route and making me some pads. I've got a collection of stuff I've hoarded to trigger samples.. yet to actually do it... still pecking around...

I had UVI Workstation v2.6.8 installed and working. Then installed v2.6.10 and it wouldn't run. Something to do with libraries isn't running/missing on Win7... just gave some general error but nothing specific. I just uninstalled it and didn't fall back to v2.6.8

It sounds like a contender, but then looking at $199. makes me think adding a couple hundred bucks and go for the Spectrasonics and get the C7 and other sounds. Then I get back to wondering what I can layer to get the sound I want for nothing. I'll give that a shot when I get more time but I woulda scooped the UVI up at half price and been happy
