Hi Jim, What does the "Fully tricked out SA-67" mean, ,..are you referring to the stock SA-67 mic available to order on Stam's site or did you order a modded version of the stock one? Thanks! Mike I went for the $500 upgrade ...in for a penny and all that.

It sounds like we've had a similar response to the Flea. There is something special about the Flea that the Stam approaches but doesn't quite reach in my opinion. It's that magic harmonic richness that a great 47 has that puts the Flea over the top. There have been other mics I've owned in the past that sounded great but weren't that great to sing into(from the singer's perspective). Some have that feeling of singing against a brick wall I guess is the best way to describe it. The Stam was definitely a joy to sing into and really moves with you instead of you feeling like you're fighting against it. This gives me some hope that the fully tricked out SA-67 I have on order will be worth the money ...when it arrives sometime in 2021 or whenever.

Considering he just announced yet another shipping delay, his last post demonstrates a lot of chutzpah.

Does the +24 button eliminate the need for a cloudlifter?

The new chips provide 50% more processing power so six new chips is like nine of the old chips ...more than an octo. No, same chips, just 2 more of them. Ahh.. I totally misunderstood that. The language seems a bit misleading to me. "...plus all-new HEXA Core processing — yielding 50% more DSP for running UAD Powered Plug-Ins in real time. "

Will 6 sharc chips provide enough ua dsp for your tracking needs ? I really wanted an Octo Apollo, so whether it's four or six cores, neither necessarily is ideal. The new chips provide 50% more processing power so six new chips is like nine of the old chips ...more than an octo.

All the new models offer the same number of HEXA core DSP chips: 6. So it's like a quad and a half worth of processing. It looks like the big difference is the dynamic range on the X16 flagship model. All the other models spec at "129 dB dynamic range and -119 dB THD+N" while the X16 specs at "133 dB dynamic range and THD+N of -129 dB." The lowest priced model is selling for $2k and the X16 for $3500. If the ADDA is really up to snuff and competes with say Lynx and Symphony, that's a pretty good price. A TB Aurora (n), for example, 16 is 3999. Still, though... wish it had an Octo in there. The Apollo Firewire sold for $3k when it first came out. The X6 at $2k is quite a bargain compared to that.

Thus the quotation marks around "thin margins"..! I knew what you meant and I should have made it more clear that I was agreeing with you on that point.

That makes it even less of a deal at 2K then. If it had reconfigurable FPGA DSP systems it would have been more worth the 2K, but now I see it as 1200$ at best if the computer is doing all the heavy lifting.. Especially since he makes the claim of "thin margins".. Slate makes dubious claims on other products and I don't see why this should be an exception so I doubt the margin is very "thin." He's very good at social media marketing, however, and he's built up quite a sizable number of core fans who will buy anything with his name on it. Of late I've seen many posts in his FB group from people asking Slate to make a DAW and getting excited over how awesome that would be. But if you ask them what features they want included that aren't already on the market, the vast majority don't have an answer; they just want a DAW with a Slate label on it. Slate has them sold on the notion that anything he sells is as good or better than anything else they'll find on the market at any price, including the cheap ML-2 VMS mics from China that he sells for $150 and his fans swear sound as good as great vintage microphones even without the VMS software.

But 2k? Seems a bit stiff. That's likely MSRP, and street price will be lower.. Hopefully. Doesn't look like it will be. $2k is the price on Sweetwater. There are packages at higher prices that include his Handy Housewife Helper microphones.

I’m not trying to be contentious, but I should be allowed to offer a differing opinion. I'm just there for the LOLs.

I just can't with the whole Slate thing. It might be a good interface. Who knows? The hype machine is just such a turn off though that I just don't want anything to do with Slate's products ever again. I feel like I need a shower after watching one of his promo videos. I'm with you. The Slate FB forum strikes me as very cult-ish. Reality flies out the window and you're persona non grata if you don't swear his VMS emulations aren't as good as or better than the actual vintage mics they emulate.

There was a reason I locked the other thread. If this one gets locked, please don't start another one. Can we know the reason?

Earlier this evening, I wrote a long post for the other thread that started with this: All over the internet are studio websites with lists of gear. If thieves were scouring the internet for information on audio gear to steal, there's been plenty out there for years. I'm not so paranoid that I fear posting a list of my gear. I also have a bat in the closet, two retired cops living next door, and 6 dogs who will make quite a racket if anyone tries to get in, so good luck to the person who tries to rob my house. My list...
I typed out an extensive list of all my stuff and when I hit "Create Post," the damn thread had been closed.

I would not be surprised to see a new Apollo “PRO” introduced but keeping the MkIi still available. They are still fine for many people at different levels and would provide an in-brand upgrade path without devaluing the mkIi That would be an interesting move on their part. What do you think a "PRO" model would have as upgrades?
