I am getting ready to mix my latest album. Those who are familiar with my previous work, can you just have a quick listen to this, let me know if there are any issues... Its a static fader mix, not up to automation yet. Its using the Console 1, by Softube, I still use a bit of Fab Filter Pro Q3 to tuck and knit things together eq wise. Its also the STAM SA 47 on main vocals.... Appreciate the feedback cheers Wiz Aching Bones Wiz Test Mix 1

It sounds good dude..... nicely recorded tracks.
Love the snare and vocal sound. Now I guess I need a Stam47 (dammit) -
Once you put a wide 1khz dip on the 2bus and add FX and it'll be sounding 'really' sweet

Oh yea.... no problem.
Man I hear lots of great negative space here for some harmonic minor scales!
Just textured in there - kinda melodic counterpoint type stuff

That SA47 sounds great on your voice. Great sounding mix. My personal opinion is I would’ve liked to hear the bass “speak” a bit more in this song, but this is all subjective of course.

I like the vocals quite a bit. Reminds me of Steven Still a bit. I'm assuming the drums are samples? They sound great, just wished for a little more excitement, but that might have distracted from the vocal though. Nice job.

Hey wiz, the sonics sound great. I love the part when the distant vocal hits. The BGV's and reverb sound great. Just a few critiques from my end. 1:23-1:35 the lead vocal seems just a bit buried. Also, the pocket with the drums feels loose. At this stage, there probably isn't much to be done, but it distracts me. Sometimes the kick feels ahead, sometimes behind.

Sounds real nice.
The non matching sustains of the electric vs acoustic guitar are bothering me. Electric guitar is coming in a bit sooner than the acoustic and the acoustic rings longer on the chunks. Matching reverb will help the sustains likely and re aligning the electric guitar.
Sonics overall are super great! Can't wait for some added depth during the chorus/bridge parts. Be awesome.

As a drummer I'd be curious to hear a mix without the hi hat. The clicky-ness of it distracts me and the groove really doesn't need a HH to propel it. Nice vocal sound.

Hey ipedrum Cant do that, as the recording is just overheads, but I will look at the EQ and see if I can declick it some, thanks for checking it out. Cheers Wiz

Thanks everyone for checking it out and providing valuable feedback..
The things I had the most concern about, dont seem to be an issue, which is fantastic.
I was worried that the change from my trusty ol 87 to the Stam 47 might have been a problem...I am so attached to my 87. And I was worried that the change to Softubes console 1 might have been an issue
I have always strived for really great sonics (my playing of different instruments is what it is, I do the best I can) and killer vocals
cheers and thanks guys I really appreciate it
Wiz

Your chops are fine, I meant that I would’ve liked the bass to be a bit more prominent in the mix. Either by raising the level, EQ, or maybe some harmonic distortion. But I tend to like more bass in a mix than the average mixer.

I had a listen to your song. It sounded great. There was one but only one thing took me out of the listening experience: a kick drum hit at 3:28 - a bit late or early.
Makes me miss/not miss touring.

Sounds good to me although it seems like the instruments are panned kinda wide for the style of music.

Posting as a Peter Knight fan since first hearing him, I want to hear Peter's voice here more compressed and out front, as if he were singing about 24-30 inches away from me. I need to hear the man's accepted resignation to his passion and his weariness in this song up close. Since the elements and vocal delivery are crisp and precise in this tune, I'd try a little rolled off dub echo on the vocal and even slow the tempo of the echo a hair from the triplet to let the vocal vibe drag the track a bit. Like the music is carrying him on, just like in the song lyric.
Peter is really good at this type of song.

Wiz and I, at his initiative, have had a couple chats about lcr mixing. I find I like it’s clarity.
