Hi Guys, I'll be getting the upgraded SA67, but it will take a while, Joshua at Stam has been ill, so it'll be a little while longer than expected. He'll come through, just hang in there.

Just to let you guys know, it honestly took 4 seconds for me to hear how good it sounds. Off the hip reactions are certainly important in my book. Some gear lives and dies on the test rack. Trust me when I tell you connecting this mic to a $300 mixer with a pair of Focal Headphones....In a noisy office...Trust me this mic is GOOD. When its in the Track, it will probably be GOOD. On my Vocals, it sounds GOOD. It has no harshies to SSSSS and consonants and the mid range is huge. The clarity and unrelented mid range is there. The bottom is huge in the stock setting. I don't know why more lows would be needed by removing the internal jumper. but maybe my mind will change in the studio. I don't think I will open it. This mic sounded HUGE to me in the headphones. I tried it several times and always sounded HUGE

It's good to know it can be done. Perhaps Neumann will look at a 47 reissue soon. I'd love to hear the new 67 next to the Chandler REDD. I know I'm very compatible with both, and I'd be curious if one suits me better.

I dunno, somewhere in there. One is a really nice M269 clone (RMS269), so I kind of have the 67 thing dialed, and I really have no significant holes in the mic collection. AND......This is the year of the EQ for me. Oh, and new monitor controller. Oh yeah, and another pair of Splices. And it's barely April. Haha!! Who am I kidding..... Honestly, I think my outboard is getting pretty dialed. Getting rid of the mid-level or low level stuff that's "kinda" OK for some stuff, but not really AWESOME for everything, and settling in on quality long term pieces. I know it's never done, but I'm getting closer. After that I can go back down the mic alley, but I've got that pretty dialed aside from mega-buck classics. I dunno what might be next. I'm kind of scared it might be synths again..... LOL Just saw a JP8 go for $17k. I never had one of those.

Yesterday I went over to my local gear dealer's place and did a shootout between my vintage 1980 U87 and his brand new U67. I've been thinking about getting a pair of U67s just to have the ultimate in LDC tube mics for drum overheads. I recorded vocals and drums. I've decided that while the U67 is super sexy as hell and has a superior sound, it wasn't superior enough for me to justify the expense. They are beautiful sounding mics, however.

Even though my U67 has been serviced regularly I've always wondered if it's performance degraded, so I was looking into buying one of the re-issues.. I originally bought mine from a liquidation auction over a decade ago, it cost about the same as a U87AI goes for today.
So having a 67 I never bothered with another Neumann (until about four years ago (M149)), although over the years though I've come into contact with quite a few.. U47FET, M149, various TLM's for e.g. and I recently decided to pick up a U89I as a do all smorgasbord mic.
Anyway, my point is I was in the market and it was ample chance for me to listen to new U67 clips.. For the most part (if done ok) they sound pretty much the same as my old 67, which is good but also presents me with an issue. Note: This feels a bit like a my diamond shoes are too tight remark but the problem I've got is they all sound fantastic..!
The only criticism I have about the 67 is it can get a little strident in the upper registers some times, it's upper resonant frequencies in limited cases can get my ears a little bit but I'm heavily nit picking here. The other issue (now I know mine sounds as it should) is it doesn't honestly sound that much different to my U89I.
Yeah I know some think the U89 is a little bit boring, but I have tube pre-amps in channel strips and after some subtle cooking to bring out the flavor we are a little too close for comfort. Of course there are subtle differences but I kinda noticed the same thing in some clips of a 1980's U87 vs. the U67 (then again the recordings weren't great and I've never had a vintage 87 in my own hands)..
Now, instead of buying a replacement I think I might finally get rid of mine..

I'd dump that thing, buy the reissue and pocket the rest.
