There have been changes. The mic pre is now desktop and the price is half of what it was. $999. It's intriguing for sure.

Said in the video that you get the 251, 47, c800, 1073 and V76 when you buy the mic system. I might just order one. I'll report back next year.

Seems like the SDC will be a future add-on instead of included. That's why the price is lower. Looks like an awesome deal! I'm pretty excited by this product

I mean, I have my reservations...but this is the kind of nerdy thing I think is cool - the techie stuff - but it rarely seems to be what it's promised.

Plus it's not THE DREAM, which is owning the real thing. Even if they do get damn close. Which I doubt.

Haha his marketing is so over the top. Thisis interesting. I own a Kemper and it is nearly indistinguishable from the original amps, as long as you profile correctly. This seems like a similar idea and execution, but with slate controlling the library of models available.

I'm skeptical and a bit tired of all the "recreations of the originals". Maybe I'm getting old but I don't find this new wonderful world of digital terribly inspiring and have been using DAW's for over 20 years. There are digital products I like and use but I have never bought them because I thought they would replace the actual piece of gear for less. The only thing missing is a piece of software that automatically writes top 10 hits, one after the next, tracks, mixes and masters with just the click of a mouse.

As has been brought up, how do you model 127 degrees off axis?

Well, the dream of owning a vintage 251 doesn't seem to be in my future anytime soon.

Ok color me surprised.. Firstly ,.. its here... (sound of wiz hitting floor) 8) Secondly, 1000 bucks, for mic and preamp... not too shabby. If it even does close to what it says it does.. bit of a good buy if you need that kind of thing. I used to (say 10 years back) make quite a bit of coin, recording singers and their backing tracks. They would come in, I would record them singing against 10 backing tracks and make up a little CD for them. Parents loved it. This would have been really quite handy for that. If I was recording lots of different singers... I would have a good look at this. Congrats stevenslatecheers Wiz

Yeah - my question is if the sound of the cheap Chinese capsule stays in there. I'm not being a douche, I just haven't personally found a capsule in a mic at this price range that didn't come with a nice Chinese "Zing"...

I see Steven posted elsewhere that the mics he modeled were from one of the biggest collectors - and that we would hear from him soon. Wonder if that's John McBride? I know Slate was here meeting with him at one point...

"the zing is the thing" I had to go Neumann to get away from it. cheers Wiz

I was at AES today and caught the last few minutes of a Steven Slate presentation. It was too crowded to bother asking him any questions personally, but he did answer two questions I asked. If possible, I'll see if I can chat with him for a minute tomorrow. The VMS is up on stage. I'd love to get some headphones and just listen. I'm once bitten twice shy regarding Slate products, but they are innovative and if this system is good, it would be a blessing to singer/songwriters at home and small studios.
I saw lots of good things there. The Soyuz SU-17 microphone is the Best in Show piece so far.
I briefly listened to Telefunken's Elam 251, C12 and U47, their U47 is $9000, and could be had for the AES show bargain price of $7500. I gotta say it was fantastic though.
I had a moment, and I happened to be right by MXL microphone's booth. No one was there, so I stopped by for a minute to look at what they were displaying. The sales rep was cool, and helpful, no attitude at all. Now I would normally roll eyes at the mention of MXL, but... I had a listen to their CR89 LDC, that sells for $349, and I'm telling you, it sounded at least as good as any of the $800-$1200 mics I've heard. Of course in that environment you can't really tell, but it was hefty and really classy looking, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to put in up in my studio if I had one. I'd love to hear a shootout between it and the 3U mics. Another thing, I wouldn't be surprised if their Genesis tube mic in their Heritage Edition, (U47 style) equaled many of the fancy clone brands like Peluso and Beeznees, and it was $600.
It would be fun to have a demo of these mics. The CR89 was the most interesting though.
Avantone has a very interesting looking new tube mic coming out soon, I'll see if I can get some details on it tomorrow. They also have come out with a fantastic set of headphones with a switch that sums to mono.
Listened to the Amphion line, Trident's 3 way, and Ocean Way has new monitor speakers that sell for a little over $3,000. I'll try to give them all a closer listen tomorrow. Despite the excellent imaging and the help of their gracious managing director Anssi, the Amphion's reminded me a little too much of NS 10's, but again, I'm listening in the middle of a convention floor so..

They used the Golden Ratio on every single part they hand made. A friend who's an electrical engineer/designer of mics and gear for decades said to me on the side, he thinks it's the finest mic ever made, and he's seen them all from every aspect for more than 30 years. To me, it's a case of "even better tan the real thing". If you listen to their shootout against the C12 and U47, I'd say the C12 was more "accurate", but whatever the Soyuz is doing, makes you prefer it regardless. World class for sure, and certainly worth thinking on if you're spending lots of time fussing about modding, in search of mic nirvana. Time is money, don't forget.. I wish I could afford it, aarrgghh
