They are active cardioid with DSP and room correction.
I have used both amphion and ATC and the majority of all the high end stuff..... I feel the 8Cs sit right between the uber detail of the ATCs and the Ease of presentation of the Amphions. The integration of drivers beats both subjectively. The slam of the lowed makes a Sub unnecessary at the volume I work at.... The bottom line is the translation is the best I have had anywhere...
That detail between the ATC's and Amphion as well as the integrated subs (like my MM35's) is what has me excited for this demo. If it goes to plan it'll be in a buddy's studio that has Two18's and I'll probably drag my Barefoots along. I do feel I'm already spoiled for monitors in having 3 of the forum favorites but it's the combo of them that I really want, plus the help with problematic rooms as I often work on the road.
Just reporting back that it looks like we have a demo date of Feb 25th in LA with the Dutch&Dutch guys. My buddy that's hosting it at his studio has Amphion Two18's and some ATC 150's and I'm bringing Barefoots so should be a good comparison. If anyone in LA wants to attend shoot me a PM and I'll let you know all the info once everything's confirmed.
I feel like the time I am saving will pay for these in no time.... But yes Ouch... Although With this Tech I Feel one can do really high end work in a well treated bedroom... I have never heard speakers perform in practical application like these.. You can nail the midrange like a Amphion or NS 10 but make tight corrections in very low frequencies and the translation is insane..
All the same, if you are designing a studio control room with a intended budget, you might not have to spend as much on the acoustic design of the room, [which most users of 10-12K speakers usually do].
No your still going to have to treat the room for LF, the Cardiod pattern is only for the mid and the directional effects of the wave guide below 100hz they are going to be pretty much Omni. Let's face it LF is where most of the treatment budget goes. Now I'm wondering about that 30hz, that's pretty low for 2 sealed 8's in such a small cabinet, I'm betting they are using a bunch of DSP below 100hz is ground plane and a above is in a chamber. Honestly I would rather 2 different graphs without smoothing and or a more real world measurement. If they can deliver 10K for an active 3way isn't that insane!
I had Kiis for 2 months I got D&D 8C then... I ended up with ATC SCM100
What are your thoughts between 8c and ATC?
Well, it's not really fair comparison.. ATC SCM100 are several times bigger than 8Cs. So they play way more effortless, got headroom for days (eventho 8C were better than Kiis when it comes to headroom) and I felt the ATC midrang is much more revealing. It's second to none. Further the whole spatial image imagery is way more pleasant on the ATCs.. I think that's also due their size. After all I felt the ATC play way more clean with less THD than any speaker I have listened to.
The ATC 100s Sound killer and I can only imagine in a NORTHWARD room.... I never warmed up to them in freestanding configurations as far as low frequency reproduction nor did I have as good a time with translation. Interested to get into one of Thomas's rooms with the 100s in soffits... This being said at the price point for doing daily work Mastering and mixing the 8Cs are out performing most everything.
A demo pair came to LA about a week and a half ago. I was the second guy in line. The first guy that demoed them kept them. I’ll hear them at some point..

Thanks I’ve heard the 50’s,100’s and 150’s.sounded great. used the 25’s and 45’s. Mids and imaging were pretty stunning, although I was kinda wanting a bit more low extension Currently using Barefoot MM26’s. Love them.Absolutely No lack of low end on those.

Barefoots are another cup of tea.. I only have heard MM27 whatsoever. No bad speakers at all..and they go incredibly loud for their size. I never gel'd with them however..

I had a feeling you would dig them...... Quick as a hell to get work done eh?
thanks to you! yup.way less futzing, mentally compensating or second guessing. decisions come faster with more confidence. if it sounds good it is good.the resolution imaging and phantom center, low end and subs don't lie like so many other fancy monitors Ive used.no bullshit. the ability to tweak freq's in the app is cool.

Just tried the D & D speakers at my studio & was blown away! Incredible bass, clarity & more than enough headroom for the biggest of control rooms. The software is impressive & there's no need for 3rd party audio correction or extensive investment in room treatment. Want to thank Michael for bringing it to our attention & Tyner for impeccable customer service.
